I love third party "Plug & Play" parts that require the complete disassembly of the bike to install on a KTM. You should try replacing a faulty screen on a KTM Duke 200 dash. There's a nasty little "surprise" in there from the designer that can crack your brand new LCD & no UA-cam tutorial warns you about it.
Not only are you a fellow bike enthusiast and KTM 690 owner, but a fellow Amon Amarth fan as well! This deserves a subscribe even though I've been lurking your channel for a while.
I've learned to prefer plastic skid plates. The stock one on my '02 KTM is still going strong whereas aluminum ones have torn and ripped off. The plastic seems to dampen hits rather than just bending and snagging like aluminum ones I've owned
Did an AXP plate on my 701, it is plastic, but it's thick plastic and covers the linkage. The problem with metal is it reflects engine sound and the KTM engines already sound like a box of rocks. Running a Yosh R-77 can which sounds great, and a Rottweiler O2 sensor delete and PC6 with their map on it, the low end and and part throttle power and response increase are dramatic. Ya, the Yosh is kinda loud, but at cruise the Rallz rear tire's howling is actually louder than the Yosh. Loud tires save lives 🤣
Hey spite, I'm not sure if you'll see this comment but I hope you do. The radiator mounts are notoriously weak on the 690/701, I know you just put these crashbars on but seriously consider getting the flatland racing radiator guard. It protects the front of the radiator but it also reinforces the side. This is super important on this bike because the radiator mounts will bend and cause seams to split on the radiator. I double checked the mounting points and I think it'll be compatible with your crash bars but I'm not 100% sure. This is something that *could* leave you stranded. It almost left me stranded on a low speed drop. I had outback motortek crashbars on the bike when I crashed but they just didn't have the coverage to protect the sides of the radiator and it looks like the TRex bars will have the same issue.
I rode a 690 for three years, mainly off road desert and forest singletrack. I broke three stock rear brake pedals. Get the one from cleanspeed. It’s super strong and looks really good.
I have a Cumpan installed on my KTM 500 EXC and agree it is great addition and helpful for bikes that don’t provide this type of information on the dash. Given these are dual-sports, KTM should have added these features. I often rely on the gear indicator before hill climbs and when coming to a stop light on the street. I also found the lighting on the Cumpan is not good in direct sunlight and so welded up a small rectangular mounting container with a small hood/cowling to block direct sunlight. The only other issue I’ve had with the Cumpan is, after about two months, the temperature readings are faulty. First, it was the engine temp which will often stay at 32 degrees Fahrenheit no matter the temp or show somewhere in the 180 degree range on initial startup. The ambient temp worked fine until about one year and then also started reporting temps that were clearly more than 50 degrees off. The wring and connector look normal and there are no shorts or visible damage to the wiring that I can find. Since I have a Trail Tech Voyager, I rely on that for temp readings but I wish the Cumpan’s temp sensors were more robust. I’m fine with its size (small is good) and that it has no buttons since as you found, after the initial setup you likely will not need to adjust it again. As to the wrap-around hand guards, I hope the Cycra bar clamps work for you. I found these to be inadequate and went to their solid HCM Mount which connect directly to the handlebar mount. I found no matter how tight I made the bar clamps, if I dropped the bike hard enough the entire hand guard would rotate. After installing the solid mounts, no more movement when the bike was dropped. I used heat-resistant PE foam tape on the skid plate to dampen some of the noise. It helped.
I was kinda interested in the 790 adventure until I found out they bmw it by it coming stock with features that need to be unlocked or needing extra accessory parts AND software to get things to work. The ibex is heavier but at least everything is included and works out the box.
Ibex looked super interesting but the minute I saw its a ktm 790 motor I immediately thought reliablity probally won’t be there 😭 I loved my 690 but after constant issues just at 12k miles I had to get rid of it since then I don’t trust ktm for shit
There’s skid plates for these on the market that go far back enough to protect the rear shock linkage. It also helps to slide off things without getting hung up on the linkage (I know from personal experience).
LOL, enjoyed the video, glad your featuring the bike, I just got a 701, and will probably go with one of the aftermarket heavy composite. skid plated for that reason of the noise! i ended up with a BRP riser set with a Scotts Steering Damper......."knock on wood", glad mines not leaking like that!

KTM 690 is a great bike. Just remember to wipe the oil off bottom of engine after every ride.

Thick rubber mat for the bash plate is a good choice to cut down the rattle if you haven't got heat shield on there yet. How's the oil leak situation, any other issues cropping up? :-)
The oil leak is unlikely from an over torqued drain plug. More likely from a leaking counter sproket seal which is a common KTM problem.
