Oh Will! I'm right there with you on this section of the Winds being the toughest backpacking day ever! We went from Snowbridge to Indian Basin and I was WHOOPED! I'll have to send you my write-up for that day on bcp!
This has been a great series to watch! I'm not sure I knew you did this until I saw someone mention it on bcp. Hats off, quite an accomplishment!

Snowbridge...Wow! That's a different angle into Alpine Lakes. Would love to see those pics. Did you all do a thru route from the reservation on that trip?

I can tell its a tough trail, and I can see that you are carrying yourself different at this point. Way to push through!

Really enjoying the series so far. Looking at this route for the summer. Based on the the conditions you had in this section do you think spikes are necessary? Hoping to avoid carrying them if I can. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks for sharing!

I'd say it depends. If you catch it when it's sunny, you'd probably have a bit more slush on it. I know others do it without spikes. I'd consider still taking them if I did it again because they just made walking across it so much more efficient. But it's not terribly steep, so like others, if you're careful, cautious and parents with your stepping, you'd probably be fine without. If it weren't so late in the day when we got to it, I would have tried it without them at first to see how it was without them on, but we were eager to get across it for the sake of time so we put them on right away and blitzed across.
