- This film opens with footage of Jim Clark winning the 1965 Indianapolis 500 in a Lotus 38. The commentary points out that eight of the eleven finishers were in cars powered by Ford engines. There is then a presentation of the new improved US Fords for the 1966 market. Highlights include the launch of a 7 litre engined Galaxie 500, a Fairlane GT with optional "sports shift cruise-o-matic" and - available as an extra across all the range - an 8 track music system.

GREAT VIDEO AND GREAT OLD CARS !!!! THATS WHY I DRIVE A 1978 BUICK SKYLARK,, AND A 1958 DODGE CUSTOM ROYAL WEEP WINGS ,, MEAN GRILL ,, .. ONLY OLD CARS..PEACE...
The Galaxies, Fairlane and Mustangs were real knockouts that year against the fiercest competition in quality, looks, raceing and sales .
I love that year Ford. Have a Mustang and 2 T-Birds.
The irony is Clark received the pace car...a Plymouth Sport Fury.
Think of all the small diecast model cars I had as a kid, the 63 Buick Riviera was my favourite.
First American car I saw racing as a kid was Jack Sears Ford Galaxie at the Oulton park touring car race.
Can't believe that the Thunderbird scene with the glider and girl was later used in the famous scene from the classic Steve McQueen film The Thomas Crown Affair! 😉
It was, but the car they used was a Cadillac. It was great, but they should have kept the T-Bird!
After many doubts between a galaxie 7 litre hardtop and a thunderbird hardtop, I'm happy to announce that I'll take the thunderbird, Ford. 😀 When can I collect mine at my nearest dealer?
First year for the 428, but early in 66' you could get a fully loaded 7 Litre 427(R) with all the options.
1966 was a good year for Ford...thanks to the Mustang, they took top spot from Chevrolet for the first time since 1961.
All of their models were great looking that year
Round taillights were an odd choice for the Falcon
Great video, being British I can see that American Ford owners had the best of everything. At the same time in England, our Cortinas and Capri's seem like poor cousins to their American relations.
And when I see what Ford churns out,its sad.Looks like my Fiesta will need to last longer....
