I have bats in my barn. (Bet you thought I was going to say belfry.) They are great for mosquitoes. But don't hang a bat house on your home. Bats poop like rats and leave droppings everywhere when they fly off. They will stain the side of your house, cement and wood. Put bat houses out away on a tree or barn where it doesn't matter. The bat guano is good for composting.
I sat in my backyard watching who's pollinating my vegetable flowers. I didn't see bees. I saw flies and ants pollinating my okra. "Most people are aware that bees are vital for the pollination of flowers, but many don't realize that flies are second in importance to bees as pollinating insects. Flies have been documented to be primary pollinators for many plant species, both wild and cultivated." - UC ANR Flies - The Pollen Nation! - UC ANR
Those small traps with the plastic bag, and some water are catching on. We used one with fantastic success for the emerald ash Beatle. Saved our roses.
Thank you for sharing this info .. and for simply getting right to the point of each product and its purpose. Too many videos start with people's life story etc... Thanks again, great information!
Great advice... I thought you might mention fly predators- I grew up around horses and it was the best solution my mom ever found to control flies in the barn around the horses. I'm not sure where she got them I think from a feed/tack store or online but they'd come in that packet with some shavings and we would just sprinkle that onto where the manure was dumped. There were still always flies down at the barn, but not so many and hardly any farther away near the house.
Adopt me to come and live in your farm. Love that you grow organic food. I have a small container garden myself. Thanks for the advice. I'm preparing for my first dinner outside and I want to make sure that there are no mosquitoes.
Get some tangle foot, and then wipe down a trap board with thin smears of fruit dookie. Then spray or paint between the fruit smears tangle foot. They land, walk around and eventually get stuck in the tanglefoot.
I just watched a video where the guy used cutter and other "organic" chemicals for mosquitos. I looked up the ingredients in cutter (which he recommended) and i was very disappointed. It is an irritant and it can get in the ground water. I really prefer your approach- it is healthier and there is no "immunity buildup," to your methods! I like to use things that are safe for EVERYTHING but the targeted pest. Mosquito DUNKS and BITS are awesome. Also, a spray mixture of beer, epsom salts and listerine sprayed on shrubs, grass, bushes and trees at night (never in sunshine) kills the mosquitos but is safe for plants. The beer attracts the mosquitos, the salts dehydrate them. I also usE DYNATRAP with the ATRAKTA attractant scent, and it really works great. It traps them with UV light and co2 and it traps a great deal of them, too! I now have ZERO mosquitos, where I used to have so many, we could not even go out on our deck! We also have a healthy bat population, they are fun to watch as the swoop and dive for this pesky little monsters! So far, no flies or wasps, but I am ready for them! No I need to repel the squirrels and chipmunks!
So Around 2:00 the flies are attracted to the bait but since they got "in" by going under the box to get to the bait WHY are they going to go up through a tiny hole in the fabric into the trap instead of just going out the way they came? Seems like if you turn the box upside down and put the bait inside so they have to get through the tiny hole to get to the bait it might work better. But either way the box would be pretty much the same. Canned cat food with a little water works quite well as an attractant in traps too. Especially once it starts going off.
I just finished watching this video on 30May2018. That's a lot of work. I'm 100% sure I will never own a farm. But I did enjoy the educational video, thanks for sharing.
Hi. What's the name of the things you can put in dams to control mosquito's please? I'm in Australia and I haven't heard of such a thing, have 2 dams and the mosquito's are driving me and my horses mad this year.
Great video, thanks for sharing but I don't fully understand how the meshed box works. I would be interested in making one but could you explain the design a bit more & how it works etc please?
One thing that I never understood is why they call natural farming organic, when organic means something either is alive or came from something that was alive. Why not call it neutral farming because you get out the same quality you put in
Great video........i learned a lot from you..........i got fruit flies in my apartment, i got them under control with apple cider.....it really works :)
Matthew Owens Depending on the property it can can take two weeks at a horse ranch to catch that many flies. Highly recommended trap. I use Tuna and yeast for my bait.
In our area bat boxes are needed placed away from the house and minimum of fifteen feet up. The bats drop out and fly up in a curve. There they would hit your porch also cleanup keeps the poop off your shoes and carpets. Plans for fly box would be helpful too
Tricia, awesome video and thanks for the work devoted to teaching us. Question: How do the flies get into the trap, looks like the wire mesh is small. How can bats see a a bat house? Can I put them on a wooden fence?
GrowOrganic Peaceful Valley Thank you, I’ll have to figure out some sort of cage. I would love to have the fly mosquito trap but I’m in U.K. and postage would be ridiculously beyond budget
I know that fly trap works very well. My late father was a carpenter and used to build them for friends and clients. Put one over a fresh pile of dog poo or a piece of corn on the cob - the flies can't resist either one of those!
The garlic mosquito barrier did nothing to the mosquitoes in my yard in NYC. Maybe because they spray here for West Nile and they've mutated? Nothing seems to stop them.
I can't BT to work at all. I haven't figured out why. Do you have any suggestions? I might get some free mosquito fish from the county, however I don't have a lot of time. West Nile and encephalitis cases are apparently is appearing in northern California.
Bats also carry bat bugs, a bed bug, so do not install on your house, unless you want a large bill from your exterminator, hang them a long distance from your home.
What did you use to spray? I have swarms of Mosquitoes that hover over my mulch, around lambs ear and flowering plants, as well as in my grass. I don't want to risk harming or killing my population of bats, frogs, and opossums, however the amount of mosquitoes in my hard is completely out of hand! I've used citronella, electric traps, tiki torches, but nothing works.
Hi i live in merida yucatan and over there we have large bite fly(tabanos) flys and mosquito . I have some plants and wish to control this bug from my house could you helpme?
Hi. This video is very illustrative and concise, thanks. I've got a question, how do you prepare the bait for the flytrap (1:36 of the video)? I mean, how many portions of ammonium carbonate vs yast?
Wasps kill honey bees. I lost many hives to those. 1-acre dynatrap really works if you turn it on just BEFORE Mosquitoes are active. Also a large bucket with gold fish in it. They love mosquitoes larva
We only sell them locally in Northern California, but please see our other products here that will ship. www.groworganic.com/search?q=fly&type=product&options%5Bprefix%5D=last
Hi there. Great video. The screened-in fly trap looks easy to make. Can you post instructions, please? And, you are correct that mosquitoes breed in ANY standing water. I lived in the South for years. Ponds, standing water in wheelbarrows, like you show, those sites are breeding grounds for mosquito larvae. Thank You.
I have had a bat house up for 2 years and no bats do you know of some good bat attractant that really does work the one I have is nothing or I mean done nothing sure would be good to have a good back to tracked it because I've got the mosquitoes for them thank you
I make fly traps from empty plastic milk jugs. Put some smelly stuff in. Cut a few upside-down "V" near the top, push the V in so there is enough room for a fly or yellow jacket to get through it. Hang it somewhere. If it gets full just toss it in the trash and make another.
Bobby Lee No. Bees are too smart for wasp trap. How did I know? I saw with my eyes. Six honey bees flew into the trap compartment, while still in the air, they quickly found the exit hole and flew out. Very clever bees.
Can't help but love the introduction..."I'm an organic gardener, I grow organically"
I'll watch anything that has something to do with killing mosquitoes
Me to
Me too!
amen
Your video here just won you a subscriber. Thanks for the perfectly made video. You've been a blessing.

They also host bat bugs which are just as bad as bed bugs! Ask me how I know!
So bat dung is good for weed which you compost soil

Its because its an advertisement lol.
Even the 15sec intro at the start upset me 😂😂
I like the mesh cube, can feed the dead flies to chickens, ducks and fish
Great video! I dig the pink scarf and matching pink gloves.
Damn, those were honestly good tips.
i'll be living up in the mountains in a couple of weeks and this will help out.
I have just randomly found this video and would like to thank you for the great job you do. Awesome!
Wow thats some biological warefare there missy, you go girl.
For mosquitos, try epsom salt and mint mouth wash and spray that around

Perfect solution for my present problem. Gonna try it asap. Thanks
Where do I get ammonium carbonate?
Wow you are awesome! Very peaceful and hardworking.
That fly trap box is an interesting thing!! thanks for the share =)
Very informative and straight to the point
Chickens scratching in the compost eat the larvae. More bird boxes for bluebirds, swallows, purple martins, and tweeties for all the flying bugs.
Get some tangle foot, and then wipe down a trap board with thin smears of fruit dookie. Then spray or paint between the fruit smears tangle foot. They land, walk around and eventually get stuck in the tanglefoot.

@@groworganic not available in Australia sadly. Found them on the net but think postage would be prohibitive. Do you sell them?
Breeding Dragonflies helps with mosquitoes too!
Yes. And also hummingbirds. A small water feature will help attract both.

I really liked your surrounding area, the landscape and greenery, it's like a dream land, hope one day I could own a house in such area. Amen

Thank you for the video, what was the name of the mosquito repellant garlic spray?
A fantastic video, by a magnificent narrator!
Great video. Where do you get ammonium carbonate?
Incredible video, awesome way to take of pests in a non-toxic way.
I grew up in Grass valley. It was a great place to grow up 30 years ago.
That's some helpful information I hate flies in the summer time thank you pretty lady👍
You showed footage of a lot of flies in the box. How long did it take to get that many?
Matthew Owens Depending on the property it can can take two weeks at a horse ranch to catch that many flies. Highly recommended trap. I use Tuna and yeast for my bait.

HOW ABOUT MOSQUITOES?????????????????????????????????????? Maralah!
Excellent information. Very inspiring as I have been wanting to begin my first organic garden. I have plenty of space, just need to get started!
What is the name of the manufacturer for the wooden fly box? Also, where can I order one?
The owner of that horse isn't going to leave his horse dry, so you're stuck with mosquitoes, as long as there is a horse withing 1/4 mile
Great tips here ~ but PLEASE do not use sticky paper traps, I used to until a bat caught and died on one 😔
Tricia, awesome video and thanks for the work devoted to teaching us. Question: How do the flies get into the trap, looks like the wire mesh is small. How can bats see a a bat house? Can I put them on a wooden fence?
What ratio of yeast to sodium bicarbonate and to what liquid? How often should this be replaced for use in domestic garden please?

Do the fly parasites NOT parasitize bees?
What do you do with all those dead bugs once you catch them?
Wonderful info! will be looking into many of your strategies & using them for our property. Thanks for sharing!
Grass valley! I’m in Loomis how do I get your fly trap?
Do you have a possible solution for coddling moths. Thanks Brent HAYES
Do the wasps that parasitize the flies also parasitize pollinators like bees or butterflies?
this is a best way to get rid of flies , and you could do it at home no more buying. thanks for the tips!😊

Nice video. What happens to the mini wasps? will they nest in the area they are released? or do they die soon after?
So, would you feed all those dead flies to your chickens or no?
I’m local and stoked I found ur UA-cam

Hi i live in merida yucatan and over there we have large bite fly(tabanos) flys and mosquito . I have some plants and wish to control this bug from my house could you helpme?

Mosquito can breed in a soggy lawn. They just need a place that won't dry out before the larvae mature.

VeganMarcella andMore if you live in a hot area you might try mounting the bat house on the shady side of the building.
thank you for the idea, but where I have it gets about an hour of the first morning sun, then it is in the shade all day
Thank you, the only thing I haven't covered in your answer is the night blooming flowers, I will try that next, too bad about the bat attractants :(
Those disks are good for bird baths too..........😊😊👍👍
