You have the prices backwards. Used dumbbell plates are between 50 cents and $1.00 per pound. An 80 pound sack of Quikrete costs less than 5 dollars (and yields about 100 lbs cured ).
I used piece of pvc pipe taped to plastic bottle that i placed in middle supported by weight. So after hardening i remove them and there is hole left in middle. I think if you put stick in middle that stick will not come out afterwards.
ran an "X"--"Y" axis burning machine for 37 yrs. Try this instead! Find a fab shop with burning machine that does "burnouts". Make a deal with sales. WHEN they burn plate from 2" to "6" thick plate there is scrap that is usually goes in a scrap hopper at 2&1/2 cents a pound. rather than that you make a deal for the machine operator to use the "Standard Shapes" feature on the CNC controller to cut pre-arranged plate sizes to 1&1/8" "ID"'s and what ever OD"'s you want. since blowing initial center takes time, the operator just holds center lines and runs a cut from what would be the "OD" to the center bar hole. YOU go to a good fitness supply store that sells cool knurled bars that fit snugly into your new custom plates. None of the plates cost me anything(because i was the operator)! Dah just copy this and stick it in the fab shops face. It will make perfect sense to them!
thanks for reply. I think ill go with cement too and i need like 5 kg and 2.5 kg plates so if i use 5 kg cement does that mean the plate will be that much too when completed?
Dont have them on hand now as im in different country but the diameter could be around 10-11 inches (27-28cm) emm thicknes maybe around 5inches (12cm). They are pretty big as i only use concrete, but with more research if you have metal on hand and you mix it up it can get heavier with smaller size, Try smaller first, before trying big ones
Well i already bought them years back, and slowly bought some weights as well but i just needed more heavier weight for legs and 1 plate already costs like almost 2 handle bars, so i just looked for way to make it happen
I dont think so :D Each dumbell is about 24kg that includes 2kg metal spinlock. And to the last mix i added sand for weight. So conclusion the cement pretty much keeps its 10kg dry weight as it hardens maybe u get extra 1kg. Water evaporates.
You can also use smaller buckets and make them smaller version, then you can actually lift them in that way as well. It's about creativity to seek around whats available and make it happen.
You'll be surprised how quickly those small ones you make become useless. Why not try making some plates using this same method? Rather than one big 20 lb slab, make two 10 lb slabs. More work, but less material waste in the long run. Wasting money on concrete weights you outgrow = money you could have spent on a proper set of weights.
Am I the only one who laughed so hard because he supported with dumbbels he already have? 😂
if I can't afford weights how the fuck am I supposed to buy some concrete
Well then your options are body weight workouts

hey if i use plaster of paris instead and within the thickness add a couple of rocks will it still be good enough to workout with?
I think it be too fragile. But i haven't tried it so dunno. You can always try on smaller scale and test it out.
thanks for reply. I think ill go with cement too and i need like 5 kg and 2.5 kg plates so if i use 5 kg cement does that mean the plate will be that much too when completed?
