- Making St. Vincent Black Cake (& Plain Cake).. perfect for Christmas, Easter, or any other occasion!
✦✧✦Ingredients✦✧✦
For the Plain Cake batter:
1 lb butter, softened (4 sticks)
3.5 cup brown sugar
10 eggs
2.5 tbsp (8 tsp) Sunsent St. Vincent Strong Rum (or other rum of choice)
2.5 tbsp (8 tsp) vanilla imitation extract (4 tsp, if using pure vanilla)
1.5 tbsp (4 tsp) pure almond extract
3 cups flour (measured, then sifted)
2 tbsp baking powder
For the Black Cake:
[Once some of the batter (approximately 1/2 of the bowl) has been separated out for the plain cake, add the following ingredients to the remaining cake batter to make the black cake.]
[Note: If you'd prefer to skip the plain cake and make ALL black cake, double the amount of the following black cake ingredients.]
•48 oz blended fruits (roughly equal parts batter & fruits)
•1/2 tbsp cinnamon
•1/2 tsp nutmeg
•5 oz Gravy Master (or other browning sauce of your choice)
•3/4 cup chopped walnuts
•3/4 cup maraschino cherries (cut into quarters)
•3/4 cup of flour
•1/2 tbsp baking powder
Bake cakes at 300°F on a high oven rack, until the middle of the cake is set and a knife placed in the middle comes out clean.
(Approximately 45min - 1 hour for the plain cake)
(Approximately 1 hour 15 min - 1 hour 45 min for the black cake)
