I watched your whole video. You are a really good silversmith/gold. You’re a good teacher, you said some things it took me a long time to find anyone to teach me. I really like your work.
Hello Melissa Namaskar 🙏 I m a new subscriber and also a goldsmith in India you are a very good teacher of jewellery i like your skills and art of making jewellery Thank you 🙏
Fantastic detailed complete tutorial Malissa! I’ll say it again...”You just keep getting better and better” !!!!!! Thank you so much for giving us your time out of your busy day. Love you lots!
Samantha Larson that is great. Yeah these videos are in no way a replacement for the book, so I am glad you have it. But the videos do compliment it very well.
You many not be an “expert” but you’re a very very thorough teacher. I wish I saw a second video with what ever top you decided to put on, so we could see a finished ring..
I actually didn’t finish this ring. I left it as a sample. But if you are on Facebook, in our group “Let’s Make Professional Jewelry “ there are a lot of examples where people have finished them.

I try to use hard for all ! I'm old school ! 3rd generation 38yrs hand made . I use medium ,soft for repair or features ! I try to stick to hard ,medium for most !
Melissa I have watched all of the projects so far and made some of them so far. Alongside the book they are absolutely brilliant. Are you going to do any more of the projects in the advanced section of Alan Revere's book. This team was an inspired combination, well done to both of you. I would love to know about more work with this partnership please. Patsy
Another great video did not see any mistakes, maybe different technique but not mistakes you should explore the option of a smiths little torch or similar once you have used one you will put all your refillable propane torches in the bin.
pijnto the main soldering was done with my acetylene torch. I just used the little butane torch to light the piece to burn off the alcohol. I also have a little torch with propane/oxy. I think I have 7 or 8 different torches in my studio. 😊
@@MelissaMuir Yes I know you used the acetylene air torch I got the impression that was the only one you had except the refillable ones. pretty much use my smiths for every thing and just change the tips, in saying that I have just made a belt buckle (Kilt) I used my oxy acetylene welding set out in the shed for that
To perfectly align the inner and outer rings, simply mark on the side with a thin line of saw the center of the length of these pieces before bending them. These parts will be filed after welding.
Hi Melissa! Loved your video! I was wondering if you could provide a link for the cone with the sand paper for removing excess solder from the seam inside the ring. Thank you
I am unable to find that accessory now. But this is what I am using these days, they are mini mounted abrasives and are amazing on the inside of a ring: www.gesswein.com/search/?search_query=mounted+abrasive Use MM20 at checkout and it will give you a discount on them.
This was a brilliant lesson. I'm very new to ring making, would love to try this soon thank you.. Iam Goin to have to go on and see how would u set a stone or inlay in there, would it be burnished in, or pressure fitted or Maybe glued in typically? 🤔 awesome tips Melissa ✌
@angelaksams Thank you Melissa! Because of your tutorial I know fully understand the tutorial from the book! You are making a fantastic addition to the book! xo
Melissa, I was recently laid up with a bad back and watched all your videos in bed. They were wonderful and very informative. Especially loved the box ring. Can you tell me which book of Alan Revere’s you were following? He has so many. I’ve subscribed to your youtube channel and look forward to more great instructional videos. Liz
Sorry to hear about your back. That is no fun. I hope you are well on your way to recovery now. We are using "Professional jewelry making" amzn.to/2CnfJnC It is a great book. You can get the kindle version for only $10. But I do love my hardbound book.
Do you have a video where you show the bench system where you put your mandrel in? It looks very handy to have two hands free when working on the mandrel :D
I do not have a specific video. Mine is an antique tool that was given to me by the daughter of an old jeweler. This one is similar. I just use a different bench pin. www.micro-tools.com/products/jt879ba3?aff=8
thank you for the video! could you be so kind and tell me what kind of alchool are you using in the mixture with the acid boric? Which is the proportion between the two? thank you
It is denatured alcohol. I poured in a bunch of boric acid, and then poured in the alcohol so it was almost a 50/50 mix when looking at it after the boric acid had settled. :)
I made the mistake of buying 22 gauge, will that work as well? Also, I need to make a size 9 ring, and was wondering what measurements I would need to cut for the band? This will be a birthday gift for a friend, who has a birthday on the 23rd, so hoping to have this done before then. Thank you for your time, and have a wonderful day.
Ana Millan no. It is all done with hard solder. I explain why in the video. But we use all hard so that you can use a lower melting solder later for the top part.
@@MelissaMuir Thank you very much for answering. I love your videos, my first language is not English, so I have to review more than twice your videos but you explain very well every step!
Melissa Muir I thought you are supposed to solder first with hard then medium then easy. I was afraid of doing the inner shank with hard then moving on to the outside with the same afraid that the seam might open? And I didn’t see you do so I guess when you said you are only using the solder as a holding point you don’t need to turn it over and solder the other side? I’m guessing because when you solder the sides that will be enough to hold everything in place? Thanks Melissa I love watching your videos.

You should be fine with 22 gauge. I am not sure as to the measurements. You will Have to play around with it a little bit.
Can you please lmk exactly which solder chips you used throughout and also which torch tips you used. Thank you
marianne jennings I used only hard solder in this project. My torch tip is a #4
Just curious on the moment if you solder and seal the top..is there a need for a hole anywhere due to trapped air inside?
Yes. Absolutely there must be a hole somewhere for the gas to escape.
