    Thanks for this series Melissa, I really like that you are "learning" along with us, it's helpful to see what could happen in terms of things melting or going awry because you know it'll happen to us too! Sometimes, the perfect teacher makes the process intimidating, like I'm the only one who has issues during the projects.

      Some people get after me for showing the mistakes, but they happen and I have no problem showing that they happen to me too.

      @@MelissaMuir It's important to see some of the mistakes just to know what they look like, too!

    Great video Melissa. I will have to make my loops a little different than what the book shows. I will make a round ring and make 2 hooks to pull the wire to the correct shape. Thanks for sharing!

      That is also how I have always done it.

      Could you tell me what dimension of round dowel (mandrel) would I need to create the correct dimension after stretching?

      It really is a simple one once you get it going. Then it becomes cathartic and you just want to sit there and keep adding loops. LOL.

    That looks *much* easier to weave together than it looks in drawings and still photos! Having the video really makes a huge difference for some things, and this is definitely one of them.
    What happens if you use a different size wire than specified in the project?

    • @MelissaMuir
      @MelissaMuir  5 років тому

      I am glad it was helpful. As far as using different wire sizes, it will change how the chain looks and moves. Give it a try and see what you think.

    It appears really stiff for a chain. Is there a step to make it more mobile or am I not seeing something?

    • @MelissaMuir
      @MelissaMuir  5 років тому +1

      kevin menard it is such a small section that there isn’t much movement at this point. It is more stuff than other chains, but as it gets longer, there will be more movement.

      I wondered the same thing and wondered what types of pieces you might use it in (i.e. maybe a stiffer bracelet versus a neck chain).
      Thanks for sharing these videos, Melissa. I'm not anywhere near the level of doing this type of work but I find it really interesting and learn a lot along the way.

    • @MelissaMuir
      @MelissaMuir  5 років тому +1

      If you keep it shorter, like for a bracelet, it will certainly be a stiffer chain.

    Hello. Thanks for the great tutorial. I want to try making this chain. I have a round draw plate. Do you think it would still work well with that? Or do I need to get a square draw plate? Thanks.

    • @MelissaMuir
      @MelissaMuir  2 роки тому +1

      The square drawplate is needed to get the facets on the chain after twisting. You can do it with the round plate, but it will give it a much different look.

    IF one wants to use 18 gauge wire what changes would we need to make to the process?

    Is there a formula that I can apply to determine the size of chain that I'd like? A formula that I could use to determine the size of the mandrel with the wire gauge that I'd be using. Thanks for any information on the subject.

    When you pulled your foxtail through the draw plate, did it elongate? If so, roughly, how much please.

      @@MelissaMuir What a great video explaining & showing the process! The drawplate you recommend is a bit pricy for me! There are other ones that go up to 4mm, do you think those will work, or are they too small? thank you in advance for your time.xo

      SuElyn Peters I usually do. However, in the videos for Alan, he does not allow them and says they are “bad teaching”. So for these videos, you will see very few. But all my other videos, you will see them in all their glory. Lol. ❤️

    How on earth do you prevent the smoke alarms from going off??!!

    • @MelissaMuir
      @MelissaMuir  5 років тому +1

      SuElyn Peters if you are doing things right, there isn’t any smoke.

    • @suelynpeters1728
      @suelynpeters1728 5 років тому

      Melissa Muir it doesn’t actually, unless I’m seasoning a crucible or melting silver. The alarms in my apartment go off at the slightest hint of fire. The paper burning on the mandrel would set them off. So, I do that type of thing outside. But, winter is coming!
