Sister burned her bridges with OP and she shouldn’t be surprised she can’t go back and cross them. Funny how sister only considered making amends when she realized she pissed off the person who was gonna pay for her dream honeymoon
Sister should've known that she can't use your money for way too long. If she couldn't afford it, she shouldn't try forcing it. Opt for something that looks regal and elegant for a wedding but with a lesser expensive price tag.
One must always put boundaries. If you say you'll sponsor something, put an upper limit to the sum. That way, you won't get blindsided. Sadly her sister was an absolute snot about it. Also no self awareness what so ever.
Out of curiosity one day when I was only 15, I asked my parents how much money they would allow me to spend on a wedding dress. They told me $5,000 and I was stunned. I've seen less expensive dresses that would look just as nice without going overboard. I almost asked them why they would allot me so much money for a dress I'd only wear once. If I end up wanting something more expensive than what my parents are willing to spend, I'd just pay off the remaining cost of the dress myself to prevent further issues. But to be wise with money, don't spend more than what you can afford.
They took her for granted. She was doing her best for her sister just for her to act like a child and being disrespectful toward op. I’m glad her family decided to take her sister side because it just show no matter how depressed op was, they will take her sister side no matter what. Now op know the type of people her family were and she can focus on her life. At the end, op was able to get a relationship from this and can focus on her health.
@@Whitneypyantwhile that's true, in the end the sister being petty and ungrateful, along with the family favoritism and gaslighting the op for her own decision in declining her sister's offer made it clear that they're impossible from that point on.
Yup. Unfortunately OP was partially responsible for creating the person her sister became. She spoiled her and showered her with money and gifts and always supported her and fought for her even when she didn't deserve it. OP along with the parents created that nasty brat of a sister. OP is obviously in the right here, but she also created the mess for herself.
I hope op marries her new boyfriend. And wears an $8k designer dress to the wedding, whilst simultaneously not inviting them. Disinheriting over something like this??? Seriously, these parents will reap what they sow when they turn to their broke daughter to fund their elderly care. I just hope op stays strong and stay petty when they come knocking.

The best revenge is a life well lived and that would be PERFECT in this situation. OP marrying her new boyfriend, the most expensive wedding, the best ever honeymoon, and living the MOST expensive life they could possibly afford without hurting themselves financially. The parents and entitled sister deserve each other, thinking they deserve some of OPS wealth just because they’re family, they DO NOT and it’s about time OP enjoys the fruits of her own labors without the entitled family.
Me too! She ultimately is better off for the whole situation. No more toxic family to take her for granted, and she has added an amazing partner to her life with an 8 year friendship as foundation. I can’t think of a better ending!
The difference between OP and her parents is that, while recognizing the fact that she did pamper her younger sister (which, frankly is expected to someone older, given the age gap), at the very least she knows where the boundary is. She can tell right or wrong, and not continually support her sister when she knew she's in the wrong. I have a sibling who's 8 years older than me, so I know how it feels treating a younger sibling. But when I can tell that it's not the right thing to do, I'd do both him and myself a favour and say no.
Ohhh most definitely they'll weasel their way in using the catchphrase " were family" or the funny " be the bigger person and forgive and forget" etc etc....

I hate to break it to OP, but she most definitely had a hand in creating this monster. I’d even go so far as to say it’s mostly on her, because the parents at least tried to talk some sense into the sister about the career choices she was making. She only had the ignorance to pursue an acting career with no back-up plan because OP enabled it. I think OP suffers from severe self-esteem issues. That tends to be the case when you always put someone who’s not your child before yourself in the way that she does. I’m not saying she has to have a family, but does her stance come from a place of fear? And even if she chooses to be child-free, she could always find a partner who is also child-free. Her life is hers of course, but I feel like there’s something deeper to this.
Idk who these people are who are shaming folks for not getting married and not having kids. I’ve been getting the opposite. OP created that monster herself, and learned her parents how to enable 1. It seems the parents had boundaries before but because of OP, they let that slide bit by bit.
Sister should have realized that she couldn't have both her cake and eat it at the same time. She pissed off the one person that was going to give her the best gift she could have asked for and well she burned those bridges with OP. With how OP's family has been favoring the younger sister they should have known that when OP decided to cut them off and go on that trip that was hoing to be the beat since that was her choice to do so. Her sister made her bed and now she has to lay in it. Yeah OP made the mistake of spoiling the brat, but at the same time the brat had plenty of time to correct the error of her ways now this brat has to deal with whatever karma that will hit her, her parents, her husband, and her friends.
And this is why you don't just give kids whatever they want. You make them earn it. It doesn't have to be anything big, something age appropriate like doing chores for a while, helping out with something, getting certain grades, etc. But if you want people to appreciate what they have, it can't come for free.
i fricking knew it. The only reason ops parents seemed gentle and salvageable at the start was bcs op was part of the " let's support this entitled kid" and as soon she stopped doing that they are throwing her out. If she had seen her sister behavior for what it was from the start , she would had been the black ship of the family and when they had that argument abt the dress her parents would had tried to pressure into buying it for her sister and even call her names
OP is so me, like exact fam dynamics withotu alla the wedding part but i loved this sm, AND OPS DAD SHUD SHUSH BC HE SHUD EITHER BE INVOLVED OR JUST STAY AWAY FROM THE DRAMA BC WHAT.
OP shouldn't worry too much. Spoiled people like that can keep or save any healthy relationship sooo I guess her marriage won't last long or won't be a happy one
Parents disinherited her? What's there to inherit after they stop working and spend everything on their old failing bodies? They will crawl back to their oldest daughter to beg she change their Depends and pay for their meds.
The love and affection wasn't the problem, the problem OP and their family have is they never taught the sister about boundaries, and they also never taught her that actions have consequences.
I (25 f who's got a big fam w/lots of kids that I'm VERY close w/& see many of them I often & have been a nanny for ALL of them) get funny looks when I tell ppl my husband & I don't want kids... I'm very tired of it too!! 🖕🏼to those ppl!! Stfu & get over it 😂
I was kind of hoping that she would get together with her 'friend' 🤭 Though the story continued in my head and that they made a 'vacation baby'...I have been listening to too many stories. ANYWAY, good on you OP. Spoiling younger siblings can be quite fun but only if they also give you something in return...like being adorable. This younger sib was definitely not though, and the parents weren't all that better. Wishing OP a bright and happy future...maybe with a cat or dog maybe a fish, or maybe a plant if that is her thing. Build a new little family. ❤
Disinheriting over being disrespectful to both mom and dad once and being petty over your sister hating you for not gifting her 8k is certainly something. If this is one of the rare true stories from reddit then this is completly insane.
If it was me, I would have explained without giving away the surprise about the refusal. "I know you want that, but trust me as your sister that I have something else big planned that you'll want a lot more. Please be patient and understanding, and you'll get everything you want."
Parents cut off just for this!? What the heck! How can you abandon 1 of your children for wedding dress? Thd heck is wrong with those parents? And here I thought We finally had a story where parents were intelligent and mature. Guess not 😅
My parents were emotionally and physically abusive. There's just 2 yrs between me and my older brother but 6 between me and my younger brother. We really tried to protect him, to keep him from experiencing what we had. It worked. He grew up thinking life on the farm was great fun, not the hard work and beatings. Did we spoil him, you bet. Because we never were. Did he grow up to be a shithead? Nope. He grew up to be a wonderful man with two wonderful kids. Because we separated him from that violence and emotional crap, the generational cycle of that stopped with him. (My older brother, however, is just like dad. I've not spoken to him in decades and I'm fine with that.)
I don't see anyone commenting on how OP was fine with the horrible way her spoiled sister treated others, until she, herself, was treated the same. You reap what you sow. Everyone's an AH.
Relax. The biggest revenge for you is that those two will have to live with each other. Why is it anyone else's business if you take a vacation and post pics on an account that your sister is not supposed to be on?
The parents really aren’t putting the pieces together. She didn’t want to reconcile, she wanted a free holiday. I’ll give it a few months of having to put up with her in the place of the OP and they’ll be seeing how selfish she is

It doesn't have to be anything big, something age appropriate like doing chores for a while, helping out with something, getting certain grades, etc. But if you want people to appreciate what they have, it can't come for free.
Yay 1.more guy was able to escape the friend zone
Yes you have a decade more than her. It's normal that you teach her! 🎉 I hope the travel was great!
i fricking knew it.
The comments aint flooded yet
Dawg you opened the floodgates
Yaaayy! Omg! Love wins!
OP is so me, like exact fam dynamics withotu alla the wedding part but i loved this sm, AND OPS DAD SHUD SHUSH BC HE SHUD EITHER BE INVOLVED OR JUST STAY AWAY FROM THE DRAMA BC WHAT.
OP is as much at fault for his sister as his parents.
Little sister played herself
OP shouldn't worry too much. Spoiled people like that can keep or save any healthy relationship sooo I guess her marriage won't last long or won't be a happy one
Parents disinherited her? What's there to inherit after they stop working and spend everything on their old failing bodies? They will crawl back to their oldest daughter to beg she change their Depends and pay for their meds.
“We are together now.” You didn’t had to say, we can guess it from the introduction itself.
op you and your famiely rased her like that and are now shocked she's still like that when she's an adult lol.
The love and affection wasn't the problem, the problem OP and their family have is they never taught the sister about boundaries, and they also never taught her that actions have consequences.
15:11 I KNEW ITTTT 😭😭❤️
Yep I get the whole thing about family nit parents spoiling a child.
OP had her part in creating this mess of a sister, and got lucky it exploded the way it did, could’ve been much worse.
I (25 f who's got a big fam w/lots of kids that I'm VERY close w/& see many of them I often & have been a nanny for ALL of them) get funny looks when I tell ppl my husband & I don't want kids... I'm very tired of it too!! 🖕🏼to those ppl!! Stfu & get over it 😂
I was kind of hoping that she would get together with her 'friend' 🤭
Though the story continued in my head and that they made a 'vacation baby'...I have been listening to too many stories.
Get married and get the dress wanted and go on another trip, petty shit right there. Also well deserved trip screw them
you snooze you loose 💀💀💀💀
A jerk for what? Spending her own money? All of them are aaa
Parents cut off just for this!? What the heck! How can you abandon 1 of your children for wedding dress? Thd heck is wrong with those parents? And here I thought We finally had a story where parents were intelligent and mature. Guess not 😅
All that pampering must have turned op's sister's brain into mush if she acts like that as a full grown woman
Well we now know why he fell in love with her. They are both narcissists and the same person so they naturally fell in love. They deserve each other.
Didnt OP said she chose the solitude life 🤭? Glad that she's found someone
I don't see anyone commenting on how OP was fine with the horrible way her spoiled sister treated others, until she, herself, was treated the same.
You reap what you sow.
Everyone's an AH.
Proud of OP
The things I would've said if this was me
BRATTY SISTER NEEDS CORRECTION!!!! 💢💢😭😭
OP should have gone to the wedding then bought her a gift from target
Relax. The biggest revenge for you is that those two will have to live with each other.
Why is it anyone else's business if you take a vacation and post pics on an account that your sister is not supposed to be on?
The parents really aren’t putting the pieces together. She didn’t want to reconcile, she wanted a free holiday. I’ll give it a few months of having to put up with her in the place of the OP and they’ll be seeing how selfish she is
Yeah they broke their promise of not telling and I don't think that the little will grow out of that behavior any time soon.
You did nothing wrong. Your sister is a spoiled pos. I'm glad you ar3 enjoying your trip!!
