Same happened to Mark Feehily during Westlife early years. When he finally came out his band mates and his fans applauded him for being brave and he did find out that his fans didn't care, they just loved him for his talent and the person he is.
That's because he had to build a fanbase with hetero catering music and videos. If he came out the gate singing about men and having men as love interests in videos, even with the same looks and talent, the reactions would've been different. Let's be real here. People was ignang as hell even then when Westlife was big. Nowadays it's easier sure.
I think it's unfair that people could come and talk about people's lives after they deaf if Luther vandross wanted everybody to know he was gay and his family wanted him to know everybody know he was gay they would have told him I don't think a distant friend that you seen once in awhile should have a right to get on TV shows and talk about your private life for some white guy to make money that shows me what kind of friend John Sally is if I told you something in confidence I'm expecting you to wait till I die and tell the world

So, I think it's messed up for others to "out" someone with no proof or evidence. It's just ANOTHER attack on black males.
First let me say that in every duet I've ever seen her in. Whitney never intentionally out sang anyone. Pure class. Even though I'm sure she knew she could .
It was obvious all along Luther was gay, so that's no big revelation. But when I was young and heard Luther sing in person in a small auditorium I was stunned at the quality of his voice. Luther could’ve been an alien for all I care he was still an amazing artist wish I could have see him perform 🕊️
I really like Mr Sally on the show, conversation feels so dope
Same happened to Mark Feehily during Westlife early years. When he finally came out his band mates and his fans applauded him for being brave and he did find out that his fans didn't care, they just loved him for his talent and the person he is.
That's because he had to build a fanbase with hetero catering music and videos. If he came out the gate singing about men and having men as love interests in videos, even with the same looks and talent, the reactions would've been different. Let's be real here. People was ignang as hell even then when Westlife was big. Nowadays it's easier sure.
Luther came from a different era...Manilow too. Afraid to admit the obvious out of fear. But true fans don't care!
This is the same thing Lil Uzi Vert is going thru....he's OBVIOUSLY gay but he can't come out because he thinks people won't like his music anymore
Nah he isnt Gay...he's just toxic
Lol
And Young Thug too
How can you say that when lil Nas x exist
nah vert not gay he just loves attention thats why he does all that flamboyant shit
I think it's unfair that people could come and talk about people's lives after they deaf if Luther vandross wanted everybody to know he was gay and his family wanted him to know everybody know he was gay they would have told him I don't think a distant friend that you seen once in awhile should have a right to get on TV shows and talk about your private life for some white guy to make money that shows me what kind of friend John Sally is if I told you something in confidence I'm expecting you to wait till I die and tell the world
Its vlad why suprised
Exactly
Agreed. Luther could have been asexual, metro.... People say, I never saw him with woman. Well, no one has seen me with a woman for over 2 decades. I just don't want to date. I have been hurt many times. BUT, I get called gay or in the closet. Keep in mind: NO ONE HAS SEEN HIM KISSING OR DATING A MAN EITHER. So, I think it's messed up for others to "out" someone with no proof or evidence. It's just ANOTHER attack on black males.
@@StarPlatinumV no he was gay it's just we didn't care
It’s widely documented . He killed his young lover in a car crash
Luther is greatest vocalist of all time. Period. Love his voice his music. Maybe he wasnt as famous as some celebrities.
Gregory Hines ft. Luther “There’s nothing better than love.” Greatest duo of all time!
What a talent he was, I bet if he was still here, he could still sing his azz off. He'd be in his 70s now.
1st Soul Train Music Awards. Luther, Dionne, Stevie and Whitney "That's What Friends are For"
Come on now, someone tells you something in confidence, even in death you should keep that person:s confidence close your heart.
“I’m finna look it up right now!” 🤦🏾♂️ Booyyyy you shoulda known 🤣🤣
Luther was gorgeous too. So all the ladies loved that plus a phenomenal voice
Very handsome, dignified, and sexy
The most beautiful smile 😁.
In my opinion. Luther had the greatest voice in RnB history. Gay or straight, you can’t take that away from him.
I remember John Salley in that "Can I Take U Out Tonight" video..Garcelle & Luther stepping..that video is 🔥🔥❤
The name of that song is: That’s what friends are for… Dionne Warwick, Whitney, Luther & Stevie Wonder.
That's Elton John, not Luther Vandross
Don't forget Elton Jon
First let me say that in every duet I've ever seen her in. Whitney never intentionally out sang anyone. Pure class. Even though I'm sure she knew she could .
When Luther sang, nothing else mattered.
It was obvious all along Luther was gay, so that's no big revelation. But when I was young and heard Luther sing in person in a small auditorium I was stunned at the quality of his voice. I didn't know someone could sound like that. Other great black male vocalists get their credit but this man Luther was elite.
If people didn’t say anything while he was alive, they need not comment now! RIP Luther
Who cares about Luther’s personal life, he was a great singer, and a legend.
Luther and Patti Labelle covering Ashford and Simpson’s “Is it Still Good to You”. Amazing!!! I wish he didn’t have to hide who he was, he’d probably still be here…breaks my heart..💕💕
What do you think about Freddy Jackson?🤔
He died from diabetes according to certain sources.
John Sally know all the dl brothers. Sipping my tea
I'm convinced now I wason the fence his first 40 episodes
"Sipping my tea" is something a gay man would say.
Someone "knowing" alot of gay people means he or she is gay??? Nah you're just ignorant
@@houseofgame5082 knowing gay people absolutely does not make you gay BUT if you know that this person is DL and that person's DL and this person is DL how do you know that all these people are DL 🤔🤔🤔
@@michaeln3936 or a woman....
The Most Sadness emotions is hiding who you really are but being in America and reaching the Status of Famous
could never ever allow people to really see, who or question your Love life
We all knew Luther was gay and nobody cared. Peace to the legend.
Essentially that Would Mess up his career because his audience was mainly woman of all ages and he Mainly didn’t want to disappoint his mother.
seeing luther body usher and 98 degrees when he sang man in the mirror 20 years ago or so was just amazinf
One of my favorite performances. 98 degrees were looking at him in awe lol
Luther vandross is one of my all time favorite singers ever he was a master at covering other folks songs and making them his own whatever luther lifestyle choices was i never cared i just admired the mans talent.
Yeah, he Nat Adderley Jr., and Marcus Miller were geniuses when it came to remakes.
@Jaime I realize this is 2022, but I listen to Luther everyday. The words in a lot of his songs is pure poetry. He brought us all types of songs, sad, happy, party, he did it all. Peace and Blessings🌹
Here we goooo. The industry is FULL of gays. That book "On My Way to Hollywood" by Roman Castle dropped all that tea about what he encountered in L.A. It shook the hell outta him. Imagine your career lagging because you refuse to get down. SMH. It is what it is. Everybody got they life.
@Abe M. Being born and raised in L.A. means nothing. He told his story and it didn't sound so farfetched to me. Of course the industry is about making money. That's universal. But when you try to take advantage of someone who is trying to make an honest living it is disgusting.
@Abe M. They do blackball you. It's a form of control.
The Bible says it best, the love of money is the root of all evil...hollyweird is a beast and no one survives it you either adapt for fame but you will always loose your soul, mind and body to remain in the spotlight
Luther gave us love through his talent!! That is all that matters!!
This life is definitely fleeting!
Everyone knew it, Wayne Brady, everyone knew it. There are just some folks who just can't hide it like they think they are.
That was the 1986 or 1987 Soul Train Awards show!! Luther & Whitney substitute for Elton John & Gladys Knight!! Stevie Wonder & Dionne Warwick were the originally members!! Epic performance!! That’s what friends are for!! 😂🤣
Luther’s voice was like velvet sooooo good, timeless!!
Sally dry snitches alot 😂
It’s not a secret he was gay so he’s not “dry snitching”
Even patti Labelle said he was gay.
Well, he is on Vlad...🤷🏿♂️
How is it dry when everyone already knew it ?! Explain?
@@godson5877 he just young and don’t know any better
A Yooooo..... just checked out that performance he talked about with Luther, Whitney, Dionne, & Stevie
...OMG🤯 they all killed it. & Stevie did start the competition lol but Luther did what Luther always did... Extra killed it✌🏿
Luther was a Major talent....RIP
Luther was gay at a time when it wasn't talked about as much and people didn't want to broach that subject. It's a shame it cost him so much happiness and stress in his life. How happy he could have been if he felt comfortable and able to live his life freely. It must have been so hard on him, his health.
People will never look past Gayness no matter how Fantastic they are.
Luther Vandross never came out because it would have destroyed his image at the time.
Thank you for saying this. All of these people on here saying that they didn't care that Luther was gay is lying. If Luther had come out back in the 80s they would have cared.
We loved Luther growing up. I’m sad he couldn’t live his truth
There was no reason for Luther to share what he was or was not sexually.......He shared his talent.......That is all that matters....
"Keep shining or whatever"? The song they were singing was the classic That's what friends are for!
If Luther didn't put his person business out there, his friends should not be doing it either.
This brings new awareness to who John Salley is in the entertainment World along with the sports world
I thought the video would be about their friendship. But wow just about his Luther's sexuality. Poor Luther had questionable friends. Luther didn't want to talk about it but after his death Sally and Patti sure did.
just went and watched the music video. so dope that John Salley was in it. He literally knows everybody
I'm still trying to figure out why people even *CARE* if a person is gay or not
it's not about the person it's about gayism, it will be a controversial topic for a long time.
It stops bloodlines
1Corinthians 6:9
We knew Luther was gay, he never pressed us about it and we never cared ....we just loved him, his voice was amazing.
4:19 John Salley: “But then Tyler The Creator”
Vlad: he’s gay
🤣🤣🤣
John's sweatshirt is FIYAH!!
Case in point.....as egregious as the charges against R KELLEY are, I will never stop listening to his music. The personal life is between him and his Creator. You can take away the airtime but the gift can never be taken away because only God gives the gift in the first place.
R. Kelly songs are largely sexual in nature and I can't get past the fact he was probably singing to minor.
@@tranz4m473 My point exactly. Luther Vandross was probably singing to men which probably disturbed thousands of women who thought otherwise but that doesn't negate the gift of singing that emotionally pulls at the Heart strings of the listener. Regardless of who R Kelley was singing to (only he and God knows) the man is a musical genius! And for the record we all have hidden sins that would have us feigning a stroke if people who know us ever discovered 👽
what a dumb ass comparison. You’re disgusting af
@@BubbubTopps Those are two entirely different things. You can’t compare a dude singing to underage girls to a grown man possibly singing to another grown man.
@@RapRants Uh? God is the highest arbitrary Judge who would do any comparison, and according to His law sin is sin.
"What you do in this life is YOURS..." --John Salley
Didn't know he was gay R.I.P. Luther
We ALWAYS knew he was gay and who cares! I met him and saw him on a date with a guy once in NY, I was also on a date! (with a woman of course) They were sitting at the booth behind me, literally, directly behind us. I had to just tell him how much I loved him and his music. He was such a nice and humble person! I still have the dinner receipt that he signed and I will NEVER sell it!
@cornelius washington Bro, I have NO IDEA who he was with because, it was Luther! I could care less who he was with as they are pretty much invisible. Was just stating how I got to meet the man, sir.
I don't think there was any need for you to emphasize that it was a woman, Vladimir.
@Dallas Destilworth Yeah, I really give AF about what YOU felt it was important to emphasize! I wanted to make it clear that IM STRAIGHT! You don't like that, that's too bad!
@@vladimirjackson1272 Vladimir, you implied that you don't care that Luther was gay, but yet felt the need to emphasize that you were straight as if you would be bothered by people thinking you were gay--it's just the tone of your message felt contradictory. It felt as if you were saying on the one hand who cares if Luther is gay, but on the other hand I CARE if people think I'm gay so let me ASSERT that I AM STRAIGHT! You feel me fam?
@Dallas Destilworth You damn right, I want it known that I'm straight! What does me caring about what Luther or anyone else does have anything to do with what I want to make clear about me🤔 to each their own!
