In this clip, John Salley opened up about his friendship with Luther Vandross and starring in his music video for "Can I Take You Out Tonight?" John explained that Luther was gay, but he felt that he couldn't come out publicly for fear of being canceled. John then went on to point to Elton John and other celebrities seemingly trying to hide their sexuality early in their careers. When he's standing there in that tux, FINE as F. singing to Dionne Warwick at the NAACP awards(when the camera pans out, you see a young Janet Jackson looking like she's reminiscing on something sensual) Dionne sheds a tear (just like I did the first and second time I saw it), you know you are witnessing greatness. My friends husband was best-friends with the basketball coach at an HBCU and knew Latiffa was gay because her girlfriend was on the team an Latiffa would visit her all the time. Then I moved from Florida to New York I had a friend whose cousin was at the gay clubs and confirmed that she was gay.
