Thank you for this footage, I've been planning a hike and this allowed me to see a good campsite between Adam's gap and Lake Chinnabee.

Your welcome! There are several good camp sites up there. But this time of year there may not be any water.

Thanks for documenting. This really helps me have an idea of what I am getting into before doing the very same trail myself.

Awesome views on top of Stairway to Heaven
The waterfall was beautiful. That looks like a good swimming hole.
Beautiful area for backpacking and I enjoyed watching your trip 👍👍

Glad you liked it! The swimming holes (both Cheaha Falls and Devil's Den) were life savers. Temperature was pushing my limit that day.

I didn't mention it, but the swimming hole at Cheaha Falls is about 8 ft deep with a nice sandy bottom. The one at Devil's Den is less than that, maybe 6 ft at the deepest (I didn't test that one out for depth).

One of my favorite loops to hike. I could do this every weekend. 🦑

Joe, thanks for taking the time to put this video together. Great job documenting the trail. I'll be making the loop this weekend!

Thanks! I know this is one of your favorites. I thought of you as I was doing the "Find your own Adventure" part of the Stairway to Heaven.

Joe, been looking for my first overnighter and after watching your video i have made up my mind, the miles are just what i like to do in a day under 10.Think i will wait until late Sept or early Oct as i don't like hiking in the heat and humidity. Once again thanks posting your adventure, a job well done.

Glad I could help! It is really a nice route. I also don't like to do more than 10 miles a day either and this route is beautiful. I completely agree on waiting until October to do this. I do not hike very far in the heat myself. I'm looking forward to cooler weather so I can get back out on the trails myself. Let me know if the trail lives up to expectations. I'm sure it will.

@@SoutheasternFrontiers Well Joe i made it not without a struggle especially at 69, day one went well with an early start and made it to the first campsite after climbing stairway to heaven. Day two also no problem except for the big trees down on the Skyway trail, made it to campsite two no problem. Ok day three not so good i failed to watch the part of your video where you cross Hubbard Creek to get continue on trail instead i just packed up and kept going straight which led me to nowhere's land looking for a trail anywhere....now no cell coverage i drop my pack and climb a mountain until i got a cell signal and call Pinhoti Outdoor Center (Nathan) who patched me into a young guy named (Steve) who said all i had to do was cross the creek, a big shout out to Nathan and Steve for their help. By the way Steve indicated many people have done the same thing and failed to see any blazes at Hubbard Creek. Something should have tipped me off while on my way to Hubbard Creek as i ran into two ladies that said they been lost for two hours and on their way back out. Anyway finally made my way back to Hubbard Creek 2 hrs later and continued on, also met Steve ontrail who helped me out and he was headed to Hubbard Creek to see if he could improve things at that location, Anyway after the long climb out and back to Adams Gap about 1:30pm...turned out to be a good trip, just glad i'm still in pretty good shape and before my next hike i'm definitely going to shed at least 8 lbs from my pack. Just wanted to share my story and learned a lot for my first trip back. Now when i think back maybe when i got to the top of the mountain and got a cell signal i should have just watched your video again....lol

I know exactly where you went astray. We might have made that same mistake but we explored that wrong way trail while we were there looking for easy firewood and realized it was a dead end. Glad you were able to get help!

Great video. Planning a trip back up there. Going to park a car at the Chinnabee Silent Trail to stow large packs, then go to Adams Gap, do the hard part with a light day pack, swap at the car and camp at the Shelter a few miles past 281 on the Chinnabee. Going to be a long 1st day on the trail, but shedding the pack for the first 8 miles should help.

Sounds like a great plan! That will be a long first day, but like you said, without the weight of a pack, going up the Stairway to Heaven will be a lot easier.

Have you backpacked in Arkansas? If so, where? I'd like to plan a trip. Thanks!

No, not yet! But segments of the Ouachita National Hiking Trail are on my list. The Eagle Rock Loop trail also looks pretty interesting: www.alltrails.com/trail/us/arkansas/eagle-rock-loop-trail

How far is it to the first place you stopped to camp? I’m thinking of doing my first overnight backpack trip to there and back out. Since this is my first go I’m not looking to do the full loop yet 😂.

It is 5.2 miles from Adam's Gap to the camp site we stayed at. There is also a 678 ft net altitude gain between the two -- most of it in the "Stairway to Heaven" part. But it's well worth it! Hope you have a great trip! Let me know how it goes. 👍

Wonderful video in quality images, capturing features of the trail and details about your hike. I've been in the area a few times since your trip. Just curious, did you see or hear any signs of bear or mountain lions? One Allttails review of this trail mentioned seeing a mountain lion. Two weeks ago I heard a deep mountain lion growl not to far from your first campsite.

Glad you liked the video! We didn’t see or hear any sign of either bears or mountain lions though we were on the lookout. Have also heard of occasional reports, but we didn’t see anything.

How far was the nearest water source from where you camped, the first night?

    • @SoutheasternFrontiers
      @SoutheasternFrontiers  2 роки тому +1

About 0.1 mile north of the camp site there is a small stream that seems to flow most of the year. Had a lot of water in it last weekend!
