    Your videos are so great that an online instruction I was looking for has your videos as reference.
    i was interested in mahjong for a while, but recently rekindled that interest when watching Akagi. Then downloaded some apps, and your videos helped me a LOT.
    in just a day and half I went from not understanding much at all to coming up with strategies on the fly.
    Thank you so much. Really enjoying mah jong a lot thanks to your instructions

    Interesting tips that I never thought of after dozens of games. Can't wait for more advanced tutorials !

      I'm glad you found these helpful, but I don't plan on making any more videos for the time being. If you're looking for more strategy content, I would highly recommend Riichi Book I, which you can download for free here:

    If there were two dora indicators revealed, and they were both the same tile, say the 8 pin, would the 9 pin be worth 2 dora?

    Not sure if you are still replying to comments, but is the white dragon tile with the dot in the middle worth 1 Dora as opposed to the regular plain white ones?

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  3 роки тому +1

      No, that's just how my mahjong set was. Some gambling rule sets will use a single white dragon with a dot, but it will usually have a different role than just being dora.

    I noticed it looks like you drilled holes in your red fives. Is that so you can tell that they're red just by feeling them?

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  5 років тому +6

      The set I have comes with a gem in each red five, as well as each haku. For the red fives, it helps players who might have difficulty distinguishing between different colors, and of course, it also helps with the moupai.

    If you have a yakuhai tile at the start and someone else discards one of them, do you still keep it in your hand hoping for a pair?

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  4 роки тому +1

      It really depends on the rest of the hand, but it is normal to just discard it because the chance of being able to use it as part of a yakuhai triplet is low.

    Handling singleton yakuhai doras earlygame is really tough for me, I often find myself discarding them quickly just to deprive the field of a potential pon. Of course that also can end up backfiring if I draw more later or if someone already has a starting pair. Not sure if early discarding is a good strategy or not honestly.

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  3 роки тому

      It depends on a lot of factors, so there's no one answer that can cover every situation.

    • @misterpayah7723
      @misterpayah7723 3 роки тому

      @@LightGrunty What would a relevant factor(s) be? Because right now I'm only guessing if I'm going to draw one myself or if another player already has a pair. So it's not based on any rational consideration, which is frustrating.

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  3 роки тому

      @@misterpayah7723 Just like with anything, you could consider the current point situation, including whether or not you care if another player calls the yakuhai dora pon for a guaranteed mangan or greater.

    If you have a reasonable chance at pinfu from the start and had a valueless wind and your own wind, would you discard your own wind in this case? Or is it still more valuable to keep your own/prevailing winds at first?

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  4 роки тому +3

      It would depend on the situation and the rest of the hand. There is actually a lot to consider here, but the short answer is that you would generally still keep the winds that are your yakuhai. If the hand will almost certainly be pinfu, and there is no chance that you would form a triplet of any wind, such as if you already have enough sequences and ryanmen shapes to confirm pinfu, then it could be okay to discard your yakuhai first.

    I still don’t understand how to use dora

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  3 роки тому

      Dora is one of the mechanics that adds more skill to the game with regards to hand-building, and there aren't any hard rules for how to use them. In general, it's better to hold onto them to increase your chance of being able to use them within your hand since that's an easy way to increase your hand's value.

    This is clearly not lesson one. You are assuming I already know way too much about honors.
