Hi! I am Carlos Coronado, the solo game develeoper of HORROR TALES The Wine 🍷 First of all, thanks for your time and the review Jesse! I just wanted to comment to shade some light here and there, specially about the Horror Tales saga and the upcoming games! The uocomming games of the saga sre Horror Tales: The Beggar and Horror Tales: The Astronaut. Buuut they won't have NOTHING in common between them. The only thing they share with The Wine is that each game explores horror in different ways and all games are no longer than 5 hours. The Wine is a very classic kind of Horror (not that there is nothing wrong in it imho) while The Beggar will feature VERY experimental horror. Like bazilion experimental horror. I am designing the combat system right now and I can promise there is nothing like it. Thing about changing the weather and time of the day realtime to defeat very abstract beings. On the other side, The Astronaut will feature horror in 0 gravity. None of those games will be a sequel of The Wine :) With that being said... I have noted the bugs and problems found in the review to fix in the near future. Aaaaand that's it! Reply this comment if you have any question. Ps: the game was developed originally for Nintendo Switch. If you want to play it and are deciding in what system to play... I think the Switch version will be the most surprising one. Oh and if you buy the game on Steam please leave a Steam review! They help a lot to make Steam show the game to new players. If you are still deciding to buy the game or not, just know there are hidde cats in the game and the collectibles are pictures of my cat Nina :)
Hey dude, just finished your game and got the plat😻. I enjoyed it and had no issues whatsoever, well done. This comment of yours left me very curious about the upcoming 2 games (especially astronaut🙀). Looking forward to what the future and you will bring us😸. Wishing you all the best
Man, I remember when you announced it on Reddit... I think. So glad it turned out so well, I was just thinking about buying it,when I came across this review. Really interested in that combat system you're talking about.
Hi! Solo Gamedev of The Wine here. If I ever make a direct sequel of the Wine it would be called Horror Tales: The Pa amb Tomàquet. Go find what it is. It will change your life forever
I didn't include that in the review, but YES! There are a lot of well-lit areas. AND the lantern actually creates light that nearly fills your vision instead of being a pinhead size morsel of light. That was glorious.

You're very welcome! Thanks for making the game. I'm very much looking forward to the Astronaut (I love space horror), and I'm intrigued by unconventional horror, especially if it has combat. Best of luck. ALSO AND POSSIBLY MOST IMPORTANT: Thank you for making the lantern produce a useful amount of light and not something roughly the size of a dead pixel on my monitor. I could see and I was scared.
4 hours seems pretty decent for a “part one” of a new series. I wonder if it is a to be continued situation or each game is going to be its own self contained story.
First Person sickness simulator, in an abandoned oceanside local, with puzzles and a single antagonist pursuing you? Where you gain plot information by finding notes? Miasmata-Like? Is that a genre?
Personally, I found the premises of the game interesting, the plot potentially intriguing, an impression initially confirmed by pleasant graphics and a series of warnings and information that suggested an accurate work. Unfortunately, after a while you realize you are in a game in which exploration is totally guided, interaction with other characters or creatures and with the surrounding environment is non-existent, and the puzzles are repetitive. There are no situations in which there is tension and the general atmosphere is grotesque or absurd rather than disturbing. Furthermore, the only goal is to take the bottle of wine, but it does not give any other indication or other missions or minor objectives. Really a pity, a game that remains only potentially interesting, but in practice it is very disappointing.
I did not like this game. The glitches were quite bad, the jumpscares are cheap, and the chase sequences are all very poorly done, especially the last one. I would not be so hard on it but it’s a steep price tag for a mainly unfinished game.
@@RexiconJesse Don't worry, checkpoints are a pet peeve of mine. Repetition is something toddlers might enjoy but if a designer thinks it is a good idea to play the same crap several times, there are enough other games to try out at this point in history...

A dev that cares! In that case, I'm going to buy the wine for my Xbox rn !🤙

Hi, I'm wondering if the PS5-version has graphical improvements compared to the PS4-version.
Can you elaborate on that?
Will the other 2 parts of the horror tales series be released on psn as well?
can’t wait for the sequel….Horror Tales: The Cheese
and the finale, Horror Tales : The Cured Meats
I think I'll just wait for the Horror Tales: The Charcuterie Board Collection
I laughed harder than I should've lmfao
Every comment under this one is delightful. But I too await the Charcuterie Board Collection.

Wow a horror game that isnt only pitch black in its aesthetic. That in itself gets a thumb up from me.
I didn't include that in the review, but YES! There are a lot of well-lit areas. AND the lantern actually creates light that nearly fills your vision instead of being a pinhead size morsel of light. That was glorious.
Cause dark so you can't see anything is scary?
Me too! Totally sick of walking around aimlessly in the dark.
Jesse: “They do require keeping a level head when frightened…”
Headless Pursuer: “Dude! Phrasing!”

@@CarlosCoronadoGameDev this review made me decide to purchase the game, it looks really good. Also I like supporting indie developers.
The world environment strongly reminds me of Dishonored.
Was thinking same thing. I wonder if its a coincidence or they took inspiration?
@@Resident_lurker Either way, I LOVE it!
Thanks for playing Jesse 🙏 A very pretty game indeed and I'm excited to see how all three connect ☺️ Cheers! 🍻

I will probably pick this up because I'm looking for a decent horror game to play on the Switch.
the visuals are so close to Dishonored 2 I'm wondering whether they are literally copy-pasted
Just saw this on Epic store and added it to my wishlist before seeing this review. I think I'm gonna try it out!
I normally don't do horror games but I might give this one a go
The aesthetics look identical to the aesthetics of dishonored. Looks pretty but that was immediately recognizable.
It's an entertaining game, but it relies too much (if not entirely) on jump scares and tension.

i WANT HORROR TALES ABSINTHE VERSION !
Cant wait for the next game Horror tales - the never ending itch (crabs edition)
This is literally dishonored 2’s environment

"There could be more check points" aaaaaand the game is off the list...
While I did mean it, I do not think it was bad enough to knock it off your list.
