It's a tad sad that the We Happy Few movie never finished production. Each act could easily be it's own movie. Perhaps maybe also a TV series? "We(llington Wells's) Happy Few". Each episode stars a different character faced with their own problems in Wellington Wells. This can go from the garden district, maindenholm, appleholm, the parade, practically every corner of wellington wells. Each episode will have at least some connection or subtle nod to the main characters and/or their story. And at the end of every single one of the episodes, the character we follow will always either die, become a downer, or made character development only to lose it all to Joy OD. Just for that extra bit of dystopian depression. Maybe break the mold for a few episodes but always add a twist to it. One character actually succeeds with great sacrifice, another reaches their goal only to find out it's not all it's cracked up to be, etc.
I dont think Arthur found Percy but i do think all three managed to leave and make a new live Arthur is way too sneaky Sally way too intelligent and Ollie ... is ollie he`ll manage
Ollie survived for years in the garden District whilst also suffering from diabetes.... That boy is sturdy and will probably do better than Sally and Arthur combined
All the kids who were taken on the train were _killed in a bombing run._ Just as the Allies retook the area. In the following years, Wellington Wells started mass-producing Joy, sealed itself off, and banned new kids for being reminders of the Very Bad Thing.
That scene of the wellies being upset and dropping their masks breaks my heart ☹️ but in my head, after Victoria cut off joy, they started a new wellington wells, free of joy.
I just love this flawed game so much . I got completely obsessed with discovering every single square inch of it, that I logged an insane amout of play hours. ❤
Of the DLC only one story could be considered canon, the woman Ollie forced off her Joy is the protagonist of that story and does what she can to try to save Wellington Wells... then herself. The Rest of the DLC is one artist's fatal drug trip, and a "What If" that still dooms Wellington Wells (to save a race of Sentient/Sapient Machines from another dimension).
I like the game overall but I found the running back and forth tedious after a while and there are a couple mechanics that seem designed to just slow down the player which became annoying.
For as Janky and Overpriced as the game was i still adore its storytelling; compellingly flawed characters and superb world building really got me through it.
I think this is where the one of the DLCscome into play (specifically the one with miss byng) it shows what happend when the story got pushed out, everyone was in a panic, death littering the streets, Ollie making her go off her joy made her realize that everything is fucked up and it needs to be shown
I wonder why its different for each character like their interactions like instead of being in Sally's house arthur is on a swing I'm thinking that it's like one of them has a bad memory so only one of the interactions are correct
People overhyped about it all over the roof and then ruthlessly diminished it under their feet once the wind turned. The only problem I had with it is that Arthur finding out his past just around the time the town could no longer last was still a big coincidence. It would be nice if they could make this more organic. Otherwise, it's not Shakespeare but certainly serviceable, maybe even on par with Pathologic. The gameplay, tho, there's that...
Arthur remembering his past at the same time is a coincidence, but it could make sense in the game world that this would be when he remembered - i.e. when the Joy is starting to go bad. Maybe he came across other reminders of his brother before but it didn't trigger anything because the Joy was still overpowering him.
I played the entire game + the DLC fully and i enjoyed the game. Would recommend but it's kinda sad many people didn't finish it. Ig because the mayority bought it during its alpha stage at the time and it didn't had a full story yet. The only complaint i got was a few bugs that they haven't fix and the occasional frame rate drops. The story in the otherhand it's very interesting and good but there are some plot holes between 2 characters story. Kinda similar to the plot hole in RE2 Remake.
This game has a great story, captivating atmosphere, and amazing graphics. It’s downfall was that the gameplay just isn’t fun. It’s very repetitive, and although I appreciate the procedural generation it just leads to it feeling like you’ve seen everything 100 times and exploring and searching for mission items just isn’t fun. I’d say 5/10: it could’ve been so much more even though I greatly appreciate the small development team’s true passion for creating something different.
What an incredible and underrated game at the same time. Great story and art design put together with different ambiances. Completely astonishing. Right as rain!
Or just an entirely different game if we played as characters (like Ollie) who had found out that the tanks were fake and were trying to get the information out to the public at the time.
Here’s my take on Arthur’s story: Arthur sent Percy to a concentration camp that would eventually lead to him getting gassed. Percy and the other children died once they got to their destination because if we look at the history of Hitler’s Germany, anyone that wasn’t “arian” he wanted gone. The UK, not being “arian” would help support that idea. As to why they left adults and kids above the age of 13 alive could be because they could build machinery, and other things that would help their war effort. If they didn’t have kids, then it would only be a matter of time before they all died off, and with the plague that would speed up the process, and with everyone so drugged up on joy, no one cleaned up anything, so it spread even faster. Arthur would search for his brother till he eventually finds that out, and probably through his own selfish guilt probably end up taking his life because he couldn’t live with the guilt. Now let’s go to the girl’s story. She got in a boat to escape wellington wells. Only one problem. In this world, Germany won the war, which means every country was taken over by Nazi Germany. So no matter where she goes, the rest of the world will probably be in a similar situation, and once her child is discovered, she and her child would meet a terrible fate. Ollie, makes it back to Ireland, only to find they have their own version of joy as well. He has the option to either continue to be drugged up, or live with the fact that he got his neighbor’s daughter killed. The Pressure and guilt would overtake him and he would eventually take his own life as well. In the meantime England is off their Joy and slowly rebuilding as best as they can, but I think overall they can’t and they all fall to their “downer” life With that all being said, it’s excessively dark I know… but wwii wasn’t exactly rainbows and peace either. It was the world fighting against an evil it had never seen before.
Germany was actually defeated in the Universe of the game in 1949, there are references to Russia liberating Germany. So by the time Arthur, Sally and Ollie leave Wellington Wells they would be entering a post Nazi world. Plus from the Epilogue (and from General Byng) we know that there are children in England outside of Wellington Wells so Gwen being discovered outside of Wellington Wells shouldn't be a problem. (Also Ollie was Scottish, not Irish)
Adolf himself doesn't fulfill the aryan ideal and resembles the people from the UK. Doesn't mean the germans didn't gas people but the idea of going after british people is suicidal extreme, even by their standards.
While Arthur’s play through was more linear and story based like bioshock, Sally’s play through was more open world and had a cooler story and characters. I feel like Olly’s act was a little dumb with the insulin parts lol, but at that point you just wanna know how the story ends! Definitely flawed, but very intriguing and beautiful
Actually no, it's revealed on Sally's act that Joy is a contraceptive, as "breeder riots" (people getting irrationally angry at the thought of a child being born, while theirs are gone) have spiraled out of control and unhappy memories resurface every moment a "child" is mentioned. Arthur meeting the child was OUTSIDE of Wellington Wells.
I didn't find it all that surprising, because he saw the child after he had left Wellington wells, I don't believe joy was outside of the islands. what does get me though, is how Sally is the only one with a child when the joys going bad. cause like, we know from all the people in the garden district and from the story itself that there's lots of people no longer on joy, and joy was a contraceptive. and you know... people gonna do the do regardless, so how come the wastrels werent with children? you know lmao? another thing is, with sallys child and her pregnancy, it's because (as we find out from the witches or a memory, don't remember) Sally wasn't taking the normal joy. so, if Sally was taking BlackBerry we'll say (we don't find out if she was, or if she was generally just off joy(also confusing lmao)) then wouldn't everyone else taking BlackBerry also be able to have kids? we know the police take BlackBerry and from the beginning we know that she also sells it to civilians like Spud, so it's insanely strange for sally to be the only one with child while no one else AT ALL is or has been
I LOVE this game. One of my all time favorites. I played it through a few times. Sadly too many played the early release when it was mostly a survival thing and then don't want to go back which is SUCH A shame! Everyone should try it!
The most unrealistic part of this game is everyone just swallowing huge Joy capsules without any liquid Jokes aside, I loved the atmosphere of this game. Thanks for posting!
I hope Compusion goes on to do some great things. Sure, this game was a bit of a rocky start for them, but it's inventive and there's always room for growth.
Just wanted to say you produce some really good content mam..interesting and great narration..you can tell how much work you put into your videos...so major credit to you..
This video didn't explain the main thing I was left wondering about unfortunately, which is what is the outside world like? Is it in ruins? How could wellington wells stay so isolated unless everything outside is destroyed too? I just finished this game and it's interesting to hear it didn't get received well. I actually think it had some truly exceptional moments despite some flaws. Really memorable!
There isn’t a lot said about the outside world. The UK was occupied by the Germans and its implied it still hasn’t recovered by the events of the game even though Russia and America had defeated Germany in the end.
I could do that. It won’t be for a while though. I have a few other videos I’m working on now and I would want to have more of a subscriber base before trying more ‘let’s play’ style videos.
I just finished arthur’s chapter and I have so much to say about this game lol. The story is amazing and it has so much potential overall it’s like they’re almost there but not quite there yet 🥺I hope they make another similar game.
A large portion of this game is just a bunch of fetch quests separate from the main story. I hate it when game developers do that, it just feels like needless padding.
Uncle Jack's last broadcast is a masterpiece. So well done. Honestly I thought this game was awesome but they could have gone a lot deeper in the lore and mechanics and by the time I was more I started Ollie's story I kind of just wanted to finish the game. If I fumbled into millions of dollars, I would 100% finance the sequel and call it "We Happy Many"
I had a different ending with arthur he met the police officer that stopped him getting on the train has a realisation that it’s pointless him escaping as he’ll never find his brother then they both walk off down the bridge together
Thank you for putting all the work in to make this video. I’ve had a fascination with this world ever since I watched the Kickstarter trailer in 2015. Not enough content observing what actually happened in the game’s story out there, so again thank you!
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming Just finished the game. It's very rewarding to see the game till the end even though I rushed act 3 a bit. Honestly the game definitely has a special place in my heart but it's also dark to see what it was like in those times of World War II but most importantly the saddest story of the mall was down to the T is Sally's and second place would have to be Ollie's.
I own the Time Capsule and I've played this game to completion. People can say what they want it is one of the greatest games I've ever played. I listen to the record almost daily.
I love this game and the story. They really need to make this into a film. A film for Arthur’s story and shows for Ollie and Sally’s story and then maybe another movie set in the DLC and we could see if Arthur ever finds his brother
Many 1984 references as Arthur is similar to Winston who is the main character in 1984 and Wellington Wells is a nod to Orson Welles, the AUTHUR of 1984
I find it weird that in the trailer the “Old women” enemy’s within the game actually got involved with combat with the other citizens. But through all three Acts I only saw them screaming and alarming the citizens and bobbies around her to come and exterminate the player. It may be used in the trailer to show what happens if you didn’t take your joy. But I still find it funny thinking about the old women hitting you in the face with a rolling pin.
ive loved we happy few for literal years and for some reason my love of it just got reignited and lile this video was so interesting to watch i havent seen any we happy few content in like over a year but im thoroughly enjoying it again i literally love the plot, its really similar to Brave New World, which i actually heard from a creator of We Happy few that they based their game partially of that book which is so cool
the only thing i don't like about this game's story isn't even really about the story itself, its about how the game marketed itself. "3 bad people" implies that sally is a bad person, but i don't understand how anything she did in her past or present makes her a bad person, at least in comparison to someone like arthur.
This game is a beautiful piece of satire targeting British society. Today, the Brits are extremely sensitive, to the point that they arrest people for “grossly offensive statements” on social media. They will literally arrest people for “causing anxiety”. This is very similar to the way the bobbies behave in the game, eliminating any source of anxiety or “downer” attitudes. if you don’t fall in line and go with what the mob wants, you’re done. Not only that, but Victoria Byng’s reaction to reality is very similar to the screeches of the mob when confronted with things that don’t fit their narrative. They don’t care about reality as long as they can dream up that everything is good.
This might be my favorite game in general, the second place being Dark Deception (my favorite horror game and overall favorite piece of horror media in general)
Is the beginning video a trailer(First time seeing it)? I kind of finished it. But still collecting achievements, with all the bugs around. Staff replied with email saying,"Could you list every single bug with the number and details. " Where the F is their debugging/quality-test team!?
It is a trailer, you can see the full trailer here ua-cam.com/video/UGRHLmBNO_w/v-deo.html one of the best game trailers in my opinion. I really wish they would fix the bugs or better yet give us a remake with better gameplay.
You can get empty gelcaps in different colors. A pink and a red cap combined makes the perfect Strawberry Joy prop I'll have to do something with that at some point
It’s such a shame that the gameplay was boring and a letdown while the story and characters were beautifully written and executed. The VAs really sold the emotion in this game as well.
thank you very much for this. i only playerd with arthur. found the gameplay a bit clunky but the story kept me going. never changed clothes and simply killed everyone. after that....sallys gameplay i really didn´t like. need to be quiet and thoughtfull and prepared at all times. played through some missions and then just uninstalled the game. now i can see the story at last.
I just find it irritating the amount of people who say that Sally “slept with” Arthur’s dad. Like no… she was a teenager when her mother wiped out her whole family leaving her behind in the middle of a war! Then she was forced to move in with her neighbors and was then taken advantage of cause remember… she was a teenager! It seemed like everyone in her life wanted something from Sally but never actually wanted Sally whether it was for her body or her brain/knowledge. Every decision she made from the time she found her family to when she left Wellington Wells was all survival. Her story was rough but I’m so glad she made it out of there with Gwen!

I thought it finished
the what.
I dont think Arthur found Percy
but i do think all three managed to leave and make a new live
Arthur is way too sneaky
Sally way too intelligent
and Ollie ... is ollie he`ll manage
don't worry about ollie he hits harder than most people.
@@JoshSweetvale where on earth was that ever confirmed? What?!
Don't make stuff up and claim it as canon, dude
Iirc, there's a news article you can find in game that implies that the kids died-i think in byng's office maybe?
We Happy Few deserved to get remake and sequel.
Agreed! I really wish they would remake it and fix up the gameplay issues so more people could appreciate the lore.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming Yeah! That will be great!
“Sit Back and Pop a Joy”
You should go to see a doctor sir
Have you taking your joy
Your not a downer are you?
Dammit, they are here.. i'm not sure i can stay under the radar of the constables much longer.
That scene of the wellies being upset and dropping their masks breaks my heart ☹️ but in my head, after Victoria cut off joy, they started a new wellington wells, free of joy.
They probably didn't, considering only five people actually survived the riots that ensued
What Ollie did was unforgivable. Truly horrendous.
I don’t think Ollie could ever forgive himself for doing what he did
I just love this flawed game so much . I got completely obsessed with discovering every single square inch of it, that I logged an insane amout of play hours. ❤
Same here
The fact this game was considered mediocre and completely passed over very quickly is a crime
Wow! That was a great in depth story review... good work... I don't know why people say this game is so bad, I'm 12 hour in and having a blast.
I like the game overall but I found the running back and forth tedious after a while and there are a couple mechanics that seem designed to just slow down the player which became annoying.
When it first released it was extremely laggy, quests broke constantly and enemies had a teleporting problem
performance issues, it was nearly unplayable on my Xbox One in 2020
Salli is the one that hit me the most. Having a baby, without the authorities to know about it. Regarding Arthur... I think it just stays there.
For as Janky and Overpriced as the game was i still adore its storytelling; compellingly flawed characters and superb world building really got me through it.
I think this is where the one of the DLCscome into play (specifically the one with miss byng) it shows what happend when the story got pushed out, everyone was in a panic, death littering the streets, Ollie making her go off her joy made her realize that everything is fucked up and it needs to be shown
⁰
This game had a great story, and I love the aesthetics. Too bad it was so buggy.
I wonder why its different for each character like their interactions like instead of being in Sally's house arthur is on a swing I'm thinking that it's like one of them has a bad memory so only one of the interactions are correct
I think all of the characters' memories are probably affected by their past Joy use.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming explain that to the map😂
@@frog2603 lol I'm pretty sure the map knows
@@frog2603 The map is pointless here, the only important aspect is the conversation. Because that how memory works.
Appreciate all the effort you did for this video. great work
Thank you 🙂
People overhyped about it all over the roof and then ruthlessly diminished it under their feet once the wind turned.
I love this video, WeHappyFew was a game I loved and played all the way!
Thanks for the great vid
DUUUUDE ive been waiting for someone to make a video like this for SO LONG
Glad I could oblige 😊
Thank you I waiting for a long time. For someone to explain the story in detail THANK YOU!!!
You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it 😊
I played the entire game + the DLC fully and i enjoyed the game.
I adore this game. I know they’ve said they’ll never make a we happy few part 2 but I can wish lol
First time watching this channel, and I'm already happy I found it! Thanks for the explanation, finally it all makes sense.
I'm happy you found my channel too, thanks for watching!
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming I already subscribed, this is exactly what I was looking for. Great job. 😊
We happy few would be a lot shorter if they found out that the tanks were made out of paper way back then.
In the meantime England is off their Joy and slowly rebuilding as best as they can, but I think overall they can’t and they all fall to their “downer” life
With that all being said, it’s excessively dark I know… but wwii wasn’t exactly rainbows and peace either.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming i havent gotten that far yet, so that makes sense.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming I know it’s unlikely because I do bet majority of the kids are dead by now but I do hope he finds him
Adolf himself doesn't fulfill the aryan ideal and resembles the people from the UK. Doesn't mean the germans didn't gas people but the idea of going after british people is suicidal extreme, even by their standards.
I think they are still alive hitler considered the british natural allies of Germans even tried to ally with them irl.
I was so mald when all my favorite youtubers tried it ,but just never went more than ~2hours in the game
This game was so good ugh I loved all three storylines and honestly the plot was amazing
i have 67 hours on this game, i'm glad it's been getting some coverage lately, it's a personal favorite.
Such a pretty game, really pretty message
what rreally suprising in arthur ending is the fact he met a CHILD , since people can have child with joy i think
Great video thanks for making it!
The most unrealistic part of this game is everyone just swallowing huge Joy capsules without any liquid
Jokes aside, I loved the atmosphere of this game. Thanks for posting!
I hope Compusion goes on to do some great things. Sure, this game was a bit of a rocky start for them, but it's inventive and there's always room for growth.
I'm sure they will and I hope they come back to We Happy Few and give it the remake it deserves.
Just wanted to say you produce some really good content mam..interesting and great narration..you can tell how much work you put into your videos...so major credit to you..
this was amazing thank you!!! though couldn’t stop a chuckle from how many people broke into sallys apt lol
Thanks and yeah you’d think a dealer with a secret baby would have better security.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming lmao like during your summary of Sallys story "and when she returned , x had broken into her apartment hahahah
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming thanks for the response!
ngl if you were to just do a relaxed playthrough with live commentary I'd be very inclined to watch x
I could do that. It won’t be for a while though. I have a few other videos I’m working on now and I would want to have more of a subscriber base before trying more ‘let’s play’ style videos.
I love this game. I'm doing a perma death run. On Sally's story at the moment. Hello from Perth 😊
This game is hands down my favorite game I’ve ever experienced. Love it!
Such an underrated channel
I think everyone pulled through. They may not have had happy endings, but they would get back up
thanks for making this video i love this game and no one else made a full story video
Very thorough. You covered all the important points. Well done.
Thank you 😊
I just finished arthur’s chapter and I have so much to say about this game lol. The story is amazing and it has so much potential overall it’s like they’re almost there but not quite there yet 🥺I hope they make another similar game.
just finished the game and had some open questions, this was a cool video thanks
Enjoyed this video! Keep it up!
Thank you for putting all the work in to make this video. I’ve had a fascination with this world ever since I watched the Kickstarter trailer in 2015. Not enough content observing what actually happened in the game’s story out there, so again thank you!
Huge work summing things up
I remember walking around and hearing a guy crying about paper mache it was confusing until I fell into the tanks.
Played Arthur's ending yesterday, didn't get the choice, didn't get any of the 2 cutscenes. That bit with the boy is so good, why did they remove it ?
You have to finish Act 3 with Ollie to get the rest of Arthur’s ending. Once you finish Ollie’s story it cuts back to Arthur.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming Just finished the game. It's very rewarding to see the game till the end even though I rushed act 3 a bit.
Edit: Also nice recap, every time I played for 2-3 hours I'd watch some more next time to remember what happened last session (and to make some sense of everything a bit more sometimes).
good editing and good game choice, big respect from Spain, keep it up!! 🏆
Thank you for the encouragement ☺️
That was really interesting. I appreciate this video.
I like the video, the constant music in the background is a bit distracting tho. Thank you for the story breakdown!
1. Arthur find his brother
2.sally and gwen had a new life
3. Olliy made it home
4. The people come to the end of their time
Honestly the game definitely has a special place in my heart but it's also dark to see what it was like in those times of World War II but most importantly the saddest story of the mall was down to the T is Sally's and second place would have to be Ollie's.
I own the Time Capsule and I've played this game to completion. People can say what they want it is one of the greatest games I've ever played. I listen to the record almost daily.
This is excellent 🙏
@EvenBadWolvesGaming
can you please give me the name to the song playing in the background?
It is Hi Mom, Hi Dad by Alexandra Woodward.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming thank you very much, I have been looking for this song for awhile
I love this game and the story. They really need to make this into a film. A film for Arthur’s story and shows for Ollie and Sally’s story and then maybe another movie set in the DLC and we could see if Arthur ever finds his brother
Many 1984 references as Arthur is similar to Winston who is the main character in 1984 and Wellington Wells is a nod to Orson Welles, the AUTHUR of 1984
Tons of subtle references, and the very unsubtle 1984 exhibit.
1984 was written by George Orwell.
@@whowantsabighug omg hahaha. Yo I got square brain. I always mix those two up. I am so sorry
Ollie really wasn’t a good person before he took Oblivion
No he really wasn't 😥
I find it weird that in the trailer the “Old women” enemy’s within the game actually got involved with combat with the other citizens. But through all three Acts I only saw them screaming and alarming the citizens and bobbies around her to come and exterminate the player. It may be used in the trailer to show what happens if you didn’t take your joy. But I still find it funny thinking about the old women hitting you in the face with a rolling pin.
Thank you for this. I really wanted to play this game but the motion sickness kicked in just after a few minutes of playtime.
ive loved we happy few for literal years and for some reason my love of it just got reignited and lile this video was so interesting to watch i havent seen any we happy few content in like over a year but im thoroughly enjoying it again i literally love the plot, its really similar to Brave New World, which i actually heard from a creator of We Happy few that they based their game partially of that book which is so cool
Hey does anyone know the song in the background?
the only thing i don't like about this game's story isn't even really about the story itself, its about how the game marketed itself.
Go watch enchanted life path latest game video think ull like it 😊
This might be my favorite game in general, the second place being Dark Deception (my favorite horror game and overall favorite piece of horror media in general)
I actually really love this game, bugs and repetitive mechanics and all. I’ve played it numerous times just for fun lol 😅
So how long until this is adapted in to a tv series
Underated game deserves a remastered version where the change some of the stuff😊
This seems like a mix of 1984 and brave new world in setting
Yeah, there's quite a few references to 1984 throughout the game.
Yeah, Joy in WHF is pretty much Soma from BNW
We Happy Few is a flawed but still awesome game.
Also the kids were sent to the Germans on trains. They got gassed.
@@HeroRareheart that is never mentioned in the game. That’s just your head-canon
A pink and a red cap combined makes the perfect Strawberry Joy prop
I'll have to do something with that at some point
The game story is interesting but the game play is awful. Still i wonder what happened to the kids after they got traded to the germans

My boyfriend and i played some of it.
I likes the Demo, but the actual game didnt get me.... After this video i might give it a chance :)
Hi, when are you going to upload the video where you explain why only 1.6% of people finished the game? I would be really interested in completely finishing it :)
Hi Chungus, I did take a bit of a break from We Happy Few but that video is going up sometime between the 17th and 21st of this month depending on how long it takes me to do the edit.
