Its a mental health hospital, that recently closed down for the new build thats in the town. Plastic glass so patients couldn’t break it and harm themselves or others
This is round the corner from where I live. Been wanting to go in there myself. Really really annoys me that the electrics are still on... what a waste of money and power.
I came here from the Liverpool Echo article. I worked here in the 1990s, mainly in the 'house' that joined onto the side. I didn't know it had closed. Thank you for treating the building with respect, it's clear it's been visited by less caring people.
This is a beautiful building it needs some care now not to start falling apart it's absolutely stunning. I knew I couple of ppl who spend good few months in there I used to work with them I suppose the new building I safer but the nhs should have cleared the building not leaving stuff behind
I don't know this hospital, but I can see why it closed, the lines of sight are horrendous, mixed wards (male and female) are frowned upon. Dormitory style wards are being phased out in favour of single on-suite types. It wasn't fit for purpose.
In the video, did you show the padded cells? Specifically, I am looking for padded cells in Liverpool. I skipped almost the entire video, can you timestamp it or just let me know if you didn't show it?
It isn't an 'abandoned hospital', never was. It was a huge building that had a small part of it converted to use for a few mentally ill patients this was done after the huge complex called Greaves Hall hospital that was iin Banks nr Southport had been closed down.greaves Hall was for the mentally ill of Banks and surrounding areas including Southport, a huge and imposing Tudor style hall stood in the grounds. The Hesketh centre was used for many departments that belonged within the NHS including audiology, chiropody, etc etc hence you will find many seperate rooms and offices. Hence it was never known as a hospital but always known as The Hesketh Centre! The 'plastic glass' was to deter anyone throwing themselves down the sides of the staircases, nil to do with replacement of ordinary glass as there never was any!!
I noticed a couple of males walking around the grounds and jumping over the gates, my dogs were barking. I'm in very close proximity to the building. I thought they were homeless people who'd moved in, best of luck to them as long as they don't wreck the place & If I'd have heard any disturbances as a result I would ring the police. Lights are still on, now a portaloo in the carpark and security guards since your exposure.
My lovely Nana was in there in the late 70’s convalescing after coming out of hospital. I always remember the beautiful staircase which I think had been there when it was a hotel.
Awsome video. It’s really interesting to see how psychiatric hospitals have changed in the past 50 years. And that seclusion room was quite incredible too. I’m suprised they had they’re own bathroom. The ones I’ve seen don’t. Never the less, great work.
It's not how a hospital should be 50 years later it's more like a hospital 50 years ago from today and they don't have there own bathrooms it's shared I spent 1 year in there the hesketh centre it's called it Southport sefton

I have driven past and seen a number of people inside in the last few months, I wondered if it was being used for immigrants?

Sadly there is small amounts of damage from others that have no respect

I spent a totall of 1 year in the hesketh centre hell on earth and it's a right shit hole horrible place to be
My folks ran a home when I was growing up that sometimes placed people here, or they'd come stay with us from here.

Click bait no padded cell just a seclusion room.
@@sophiechadd8738 I spent 2 weeks in there
Really annoying that so much stuff that could be used has been abandoned too. Them mattresses would be great be great care homes or elderly people.
Sorry I missed the live. Rewatching now
why do people trash it? it gives us explorers a bad name! I'm going there tonight
Just disrespectful and no need for people to trash it. It will make it harder for the trust to sell the building
