That hole on the large Philips is a wire stripper. The 90 degree allows you to put a wire through there and then you use your blade to strip as the wire is held. Cheers!
This is a great EDC knife. Out of the box, the alox feels pretty slippery, but after a few months of use and carry, the slipperiness goes away. I still prefer my Super Tinker, not only because of the additional tools, but also the celador scales feel more secure in my hand. It's also about $20 cheaper.
Regarding the rivets: They are not brass and there is no coating on them. They are made of nickel silver, and that turns yellow over time. On the Alox models, the "liners" (the spacers between the tools) are also made of nickel silver (which is stronger thn the aluminium liners of the Cellidor models), and they also get a slightly yellowish color over time. However, I think Vic might have changed the material of the liners a little bit, because the liners on my Alox knives from the last 1-2 years don't seem get as yellow as the older ones did.
Ah thanks for clearing that up! I thought the yellowing was odd as I’ve never had Nickel Silver do that before. I must have an older iteration of the tool 🤔
Noticed another comment about the wire stripper. It is a wire stripper but different use. Once in the half stop position you open the main blade, insert the wire in the space then close your main blade on top of the wire and strip. Something I never use but cool to know how to use it!
Thanks for sharing this one with us this is a fantastic Swiss army knife as you know i love my victorinox farmer x use it all the time and the victorinox fieldmasder with plus scales has been my Daley work EDC for a few years now and I've also got those clear red Plus scales on it like you got on your victorinox explore plus also a fantastic EDC tool set great review keep those videos coming thanks ✌️
I considered both the Farmer X and Fieldmaster before buying the Pioneer X because of the large tool sets on those. Good choices, and the plus scales are so handy
I really like my pioneer x, i recently picked up a compact and really like it too -- been keeping the compact for EDC just incase i need to open some wine (something i wish i had when i went on a road trip in Feb) and the scale tools. But the Alox is a great working tool -- thinking of swapping the can opener for the inline Philips at some point.
the reamer makes a really great box cutter i decided to stop EDCing a box cutter because it works so well for that. I actually am now EDCing both a Pioneer and a Pioneer X mainly because i wanted both a Thin SAK and a pair of Scissors from a SAK because i was previously carrying both a Tinker and a Deluxe Tinker for that reason
Many people complain about the nail ni on the scissors that it's not what they are used to, and it would be better accesable on the other side... And I agree with that, but I think you can easily get used to it. Victorinox did it because they use the same scissors on the "new" (since 2017) 111 mm liner lock models like the Outrider, because the Alox rivet size is the same as the 111 mm.
So it’s a savings on manufacturing for Victorinox. Makes sense! The scissors are a bit awkward l, but mostly when I switch back and forth between Alox and Standard models
Now you got aloxs poxs😀 you will never go back to the normal red handle Swiss army knifes are do you like the plus scales more i really like this one for edc
@@inkiron3907 😄 the way victorinox is releasing there models your going to be waiting a very very long time because people he's been waiting about 10years and asking victorinox for the victorinox farmer x and it's just been released about 7 months ago 😱😭😄👍🏻. (Anyway) The name is bond Leatherman bond 🤪 what are you staying about it ✂️🤫
It actually is a wire stripper, it has a very sharp edge that can’t really be observed by the naked eye. It’s awesome for any wire that will fit in the notch. Such a clever tool.
If only they would start using good steel for the cutting blade e.g. S30V or at least VG10. Then I'd buy one Do love the exerior design on the scales. Classic. Something poscket knife companies should be doing but oddl are not (e.g. Spyderco, Benchmade, Zt...etc.).
Good to know about the context of you coming from locking blades and the confidence level the alox gives you. Thanks 😊

Alox tools always feel more “minimalist” to me. Really depends on what I need that day, but I usually like having more tools too
I have every current alox model in my collection, I love them. I’m hoping they bring out some different models in the near future nice review.
I see why you collect them! I’m definitely considering adding more to my own hoard 😁
I'm always impressed at people's love of Victorinox scissors. You gotta do something consistent for many years to get fans like that!

@@inkiron3907 The Vic logo inlay on the Cellidor models used to be made of nickel silver, too (before they went to steel). Those look like gold now :)

I’ll have to use that technique in the wire stripper showdown video… when I get to it 😅 thanks!

When you need a wine opener there is no substitute! If I had a proper drill press I’d probably customize a SAK for fun
Victorinox allox have so much class it almost is an assescoir to me

Also great nail cleaner.
You really got me when you said cannabis lab wasn’t expecting that…

Ah I didn’t know! I never strip wires 😂 thanks for enlightening me and all comment readers
Very good review!
Where did you get a clip from? Thailand? 😂 I saw the name of very famous monk there in Thai language
Probably? It was from a seller on eBay and it came from Asia. Got them years ago so I don’t remember
What is a cannabis lab?
My lab handles extraction of concentrated marijuana and edibles infusions. Basically, we make “dabs” and edibles
I enjoyed this review even more when you said you used it for flower lol

Work in a cannabis lab.. we have to talk my friend 😅
