Certainly my favourite edc SAK. I rotate my other knives, but I’ve always got a Pioneer X with me. My edc one has a little leather lanyard with a diamond knot. It lives in a leather slip in my manbag. Giving the blade a strop certainly pays off!
My dream would be a SwissChamp or a Handyman with alox scales. You know, standard Victorinox SAKs (Cellidor scales) are top notch, but when you put in your hands one of these Alox models... Oh, man! These are at other level, right? I have the Farmer X, It`s the same as this, but with the SAW and 4 layers, and it turned my absolute favorite EDC SAK of all times. The Alox has something magnetic, magic. They are also sturdier. A multitool for a lifetime, indeed.
Nice review. Yeah i agree, the pioneer x is a cracking knife. I love it. The awl is just about the most useful tool ever made, i use mine all the time - it’s a good scribe or marking tool, great for opening boxes, scraping, gouging, and of course, the thing we all use it most for - cleaning gunk out of toe nails
Always had a thing for multitools and just recently started appreciating authentic SAKs. Have the Pioneer X on the way and can not wait! Thanks for the enthusiastic, expert review!
Your genuine enthusiasm comes over really well - as though this knife does not sell itself! I am wondering if they might sell them at Manchester airport as that's where I'll be on Saturday on the way to warmer parts of the world!
Thanks for your feedback, always appreciated 👌 You may be able to buy a Victorinox watch or such at Manchester Airport, but that it probably about it for obvious reasons... Have a good trip 😎 Atb Gus 👍
I've been looking at an EDC knife for a while as my Champ is a little on the heavy side. After trying out quite a few others from Amazon and returning them I bought this one and it's spot on.
Hi John, it makes for a great urban EDC, for sure 👌 and you can use the Awl as a package 📦 opener or for parcel tape, using a shallow angle, to help save your main blade from adhesive build-up etc... Thanks for stopping by buddy, I also appreciate you adding your valued insight too, Atb Gus 👍
Very nice, I love the Alox SAK's. I have the orange and grey ltd annual ones, I also have a green pioneer and a red Old Cross farmer which I bought late 90's or early 2000's. I EDC the farmer x, it's pretty chunky at 4 layers but we often go to the woods and the saw gets some use.
Very nice, especially as they are so useful Steve - good choices, for sure. It's always good to get away regularly to the outdoors, woods 🌳🌲 etc... to find some me time. Glad you enjoyed the video buddy, Atb Gus 👍
Great review! I enjoyed both watching you getting into mere technical detail and also sharing the user experience. I'm ready to make my first purchase in the alox family, buying either pioneer x or kadet. Kadet is Def slimmer and could dissappear in my pocket, but I recently started carrying a really small multitool in my work chinos 5th pocket and a whole new work opened. I think that any alox I will buy, will go into my tiny edc pouch. By the way...give a try to Nextool mini sailor. It's a top quality tool for even double the money.
Thanks, buddy 👊 Appreciate the kind words and you taking the time to add value in your comment 👌 I've used many multitools over the years, including NT. I shall get one to review 😉 Thanks for sharing, ATB 👍
Hi Rash, they are probably the best scissors ✂ on any Pocketknife in the world 🌍 You cannot go wrong with the Pioneer X 😉 I always appreciate peoples feedback 👌 and thanks for stopping by, Atb Gus 👍
@@gadgetgus iv just recived my Pioneer x and also the minichamp alox. i ordered them of amazon uk. these feel sooo nice eveything you said i the review 100% spot on. now i wonder what i should get next 😁
Hey Grovesy 👊 Yes... borrowed for approx. 10/15 seconds, as the corner of my thumbnail was 'tearing' off - excellent clippers, but I never got the chance to review them. I need to try snd get one 👌 Appreciate the feedback buddy, Atb Gus👍
I have a rambler on my keychain and planning on getting an alox SAK. I'm torn between this and the non X version. Do i absolutely need the bigger scissors or will my 58mm ones do fine and just get the regular pioneer?
Hey buddy 👊🏼 That's a good question... For me, it depends on what you do in your day to day life, where you work, what environment you're going to be in that day, week, month, etc... Especially, if you live in the outer suburbs or in a rural area, and find that you don't need scissors often, then go for the Pioneer ✅️ However, that may change depending on circumstances, as many people, especially in an urban environment, end up using the scissors ✂️ more. In that situation, I'd go for the X. You can never have just one SAK 😉 Hope that helps, and thanks for watching, ATB Gus 👍🏼
Yeah they are super sexy and the ladies all want to play with it . Most females hate pocketknives but seem to love SAK's and always want to play with them and I figure because they have never been seen as menacing and always as a fun thing to have. I think somehow SAK's are subliminally sexual and that is why they are loved by everyone. Pioneer X and the Compact are my 2 favorites but the Climber in Stay Glow scales is probably my 3rd place.

I will also probably add a leather lanyard, as its so practical. Thanks for watching Eric, hope your well buddy, atb Gus 👍

Been carrying one of these for about a year. Has a very classy look.
Agreed, it makes for a great urban EDC and is easy on the eye 👌

Good review. A nice, very useful pocket knife for everyday carry. As you said, these were the original multitool.
Thanks buddy, though I 'rambled on' - a little to long perhaps... 😁
At least, I covered all the bases, I guess 😉
Hope your well Frank, atb Gus 👍
The blue alox models are beautiful! Expensive tho!

I really like these Alox models! I wish so bad they had a toothpick and tweezers tho. Honestly I could carry an SD with it and I'd be covered i guess.
I hear that, the tweezers especially are so useful 👌

This and the compact are my favourites in the line have you tried the nail clip 580 ?
