After she graduated, I bought myself a decent car, but still kept the Ford for snowy days because it was so dependable. I only got rid of it when it had to be towed away. I paid $5k for a 2007 Buick Lacrosse sedan with 65k miles from a 90 year old woman going into a nursing home. Still got it. Runs great. It's plain looking but very reliable with the 3800 motor.

Ten years later we have built more net worth than the 25 years prior. There is NO vehicle being sold out there that would persuade me to go back in debt. Friends, it truly is not worth it
The thing you will realize after driving a cheaper car for a while is once you can afford to pay cash for the nice one you wanted you won't want it anymore. I drive a 325k mile 2004 4runner I could go to the dealer today and pay cash for a new one, but I have no desire to as it would feel like a complete waste of money. My old one gets me from A to B. Who cares what other people think.
Drove a used rental car for more than a decade. Financially it made good sense. And let me tell you not caring if the kids throw up in the back seat or if your door gets dinged is better than any blood pressure drug.

I'm driving around an 2007 Prius with 208k miles on it when I could pay cash for a luxury car, but it keeps me down to earth, and with the way people drive in Las Vegas, I like having a car that I don't need to baby. A new reliable car can be as cheap as a used one over time. Especially when there are rebates and discounts on outgoing models. Currently used cars are so overpriced a new one can potentially be cheaper per year if you keep it a long time.
I love $300 junk cars, especially the old 70s body on frame tanks. You always had the right of way. Even tractor trailers didn’t mess with you. You never had to worry about being robbed or carjacked.
I have to say I miss having an old car. Nobody was out to steal it, it gave zero impression that I have money, and if it got a little more dinged up, whatever.

We just paid off all our debt driving a 2009 jeep liberty and 2003 Tahoe, lots of repairs needed for both but still cheaper than a New car. Now we just got a Ford Maverick and paid cash, still have the other vehicles as well as backup.
