Another great video good Sir ! This decade is so badly underrated. As you say many of these guys had so much talent
but tragically failed to reach anything like their full potential.Still these same guys managed to give us loads of great
    fights.
Holmes vs Cooney is a great choice for no 1.That was Larry at his peak, that was the Larry Holmes who might even
have a chance of beating the prime Muhammad Ali.

@@boxingpedia Ah yes indeed.Off the top of my head here goes:
      5) Pinklon Thomas vs Gerrie Coetzee --- neither guy achieved ATG status but they
put on a helluva fight.Thomas had a superb jab that Angelo Dundee compared to
      Sonny Liston's.
      4) Evander Holyfield vs Michael Dokes
      3) Larry Holmes vs Carl Williams
      2) Larry Holmes vs Tim Witherspoon ( Tim was another one of those incredibly talented
      but underachieving heavyweights )
      1) Holmes vs Cooney.
( I was tempted to put in Holmes vs Weaver at no 5 )
For a fighter not credited for having a fan-friendly style Mr Holmes sure was involved in
a lot of great fights !
Very similar list to yours good Sir.

@spreadeagle2561 I love your list. Witherspoon/Tubbs, Pinklon/Berbick, Page/Tubbs, and Tucker/Douglas were some fights i had to omit but that i also enjoy from the 80s. Larry certainly did provide us some classics. If he were around now, i think the less spoiled fight fans of today would worship the ground he walked on.

@@boxingpedia Indeed good Sir those were also great fights.
It's unbelievable how unappreciated Larry was during the 80s.As you say fans
nowadays would absolutely idolise this superb champion. His fantastic jab,
dazzling hand-speed, great chin, and sheer raw courage would be sensational.
Thank goodness excellent historians such as yourself are helping Mr Holmes
get the respect and prestige he so richly deserves.

I'm not as big on the one-sided beatdowns in my top fights. Holmes-Witherspoon was tough. Remember Angelo Dundee screaming, "Larry's out of it!" when Spoon blasted him. If you missed one, imho, it was Tyson vs, Tony Tucker. Tucker fought inspired, and Tyson had to overcome adversity, despite those who claim he never did so. Razor vs. Bonecrusher had some chilling moments also.

@acarter4173 and Tucker gave Mike the toughest fight (arguably) with a broken right hand and it was his biggest fight by far (Tucker's resume wasn't too impressive before the fight). Good fight.

    • @boxingpedia

@vince11harris blown away. I thought AJ had it in the bag (and so did he, himself). Dubois just solidified himself as a main player and I think AJ is done. A rematch win is the only way I'd accept AJ being back on track. He got destroyed. Maybe he'll finally fight Wilder now that both have fallen off.
