Ali - Frazier I, Ali - Frazier III, Ali - Foreman, Holmes - Norton, Foreman-Lyle For me, nothing will ever top the first Ali-Frazier fight. Two undefeated champions. The hype surrounding the fight was unbelievable and the fight itself lived up to the hype.
The first Ali trilogy against frazier was a 4 year off from boxing ring rust which makes the first fight not the best of the three the last of the trilogy in Manila hands down from start to finish the fight not only of the Century but of the Millennium point blank period
The third fight was a great fight but the first was better. Ali had two tuneup fights with top contenders before he fought Frazier after being off 3.5 years. That is two more fights than Sugar Ray Leonard had before he came out of retirement and beat Marvin Hagler. Ali was in great shape for that fight and said so himself. The problem was Frazier was at the top of his game. Frazier would have beaten Ali any other night also. But that fight took a lot out of Frazier and he was never quite as good after that. In 1975, neither fighters were as good as they were in 1971. The 71 fight was just as tough as 75 except for the heat, which makes the 71 fight the best of all time.

Great upload brother. I just subscribed. I agree with you except for two fights. In the top 5, I would have replaced Foreman-Frazier I with Lyle-Shavers. Lyle and Shavers were more closely matched than Foreman and Frazier and they both hurt the hell out of each other. Foreman and Frazier was more of a one sided slaughter in my view. @thaddeusblake4707 I got alotta love for those fights you listed. Jimmy Young beating BIG George is an upset that I still don't think gets the respect it should. That altered heavyweight history. Great list and never forget those great times you had with friends.
@@boxingpedia Young vs Foreman was a big one for me because it was the first time I switched camps in mid fight. @@boxingpedia I reeled them off in my head before watching to see if we matched. Mine were 1 Rumble, 2 Thrilla, 3 Ali-Frazier I, 4 Foreman-Lyle, 5 Ali-Norton I. *Two things: 1) I considered the magnitude of the event in addition to the action; 2) I was born in 69 so my opinions are based on what I've learned and observed after-the-fact as opposed to real time. And while I did watch many of Ali's fights in the 70s, my area of expertise is more late 80s to mid 90s.
@uncletony6210 I like your list, especially the love for the first Ali-Norton. No one saw that coming and Norton stamped himself as a contender for good. Good talking with you, Unc. 80s top 5 comes out this coming Sunday.
This is tough because what do you leave out. But Ali v Frazier 1 has to be in there because of the historical influence. I guess I would take out the foreman Frazier as although historical for championship legacy it was a total beat down
@@boxingpedia I would go with your list, but replace Frazier v Foreman with the first Ali v Frazier, although it does seem cheesy to put 2 Ali v Frazier fights in there, those are legit the best fights.
Tbh, Foreman Ali fight itself was kind of disapointing (when comparing to wars of your first 4 best fights ). Nonetheless, it was maybe one of the most important fight in boxing history (and arguably the most important of the 70's) : that's why we consider Ali to be the greatest. Had Foreman won, he would surely be at Ali's place. If Ali lost, he was basically retiring. If I had to rank the best fights in terms of actions in a top 5 : 1. Ali Frazier III 2. Foreman Lyle 3. Ali Frazier I 4. Foreman Frazier I 5. Holmes Norton In terms of importance/context : 1. Ali Foreman 2. Ali Frazier III 3. Ali Frazier I 4. Foreman Frazier I 5. Holmes Norton
@tloustrats I like how you had the different lists based off criteria. I considered doing that myself. I think the biggest thing for me is which ones I'd want to watch again and never get tired of watching.
Ali-Frazier 1, Norton-Holmes, Foreman-Lyle, Ali-Foreman, and Frazier-Ali3. In that order. All these fights were close except I felt Ali dominated Foreman but I put it in there for its significance.
Foreman vs lyle def was a fight, ali vs frazier, ali vs foreman was a fight but foreman vs norton or frazier werent fights just beatdowns. Definately shocking but cant say it was a great fight per se
The top 5 was definitely good. There was only two fights that could be chosen were up sets. Ali Frazier 1, or Ali Foreman. Either one of those fights could have been chosen for the number 1 fight.
Let’s face it, full contact sports is very competitive. Since the beginning of that sport only one man made it to 49 and 0 victories. Rocky Marciano. Now Ali was the greatest and even the greatest fighters have bad days. The Ali Frazier 1 should have been #2, and the Ali Foreman #1. Ali was able to out smart everyone he stepped into the ring with, except the fighters he lost to.
Couldn’t disagree more , as I was a big fan in the 70s. It’s Ali-Frazier 1… nothing else comes close…the Ali-Norton and Holmes-Norton fights were very good also . Ali -Foreman wasn't a great fight but was great to watch Ali show what a limited fighter Foreman was . Foreman quit boxing in early 77 after light punching defensive specialist Jimmy Young beat him . Holmes -Weaver was a great fight . Holmes -Shavers also
@@boxingpedia 1. Ali-Frazier 1….2.Holmes-Norton… 3 Ali--Norton 2…4.Ali-Foreman …5 Holmes -Weaver .Jimmy Young was the most interesting fighter of the 70s- he beat Lyle twice, beat Foreman , drew with Shavers , easily beat Norton but was robbed …but his fights weren’t exactly exciting to watch .
@jayedwards4787 good top 5. I've noticed a pattern with Jimmy Young getting love all these years later and the correlation in some ppl's viewing of the decade or fav fights. There are some ppl that would be as surprised with you not having Manila on your list. Good chat.
@@boxingpedia I was a Frazier fan - never thought the Thrilla was a good fight, Joe having dropped his bobbing and weaving ( age) and walking straight in - no way you do that against Ali .Had Ali winning pretty handily before Round 14. Lot of us liked Jimmy Young then because he was such a strange fighter, an anti-hero type. Foreman was strongly disliked then because he adopted the Liston bully persona . Frazier -Ali was the greatest HW fight ever because a counter-punching pressure fighter with endless stamina vs a granite-chinned boxer who didn’t know how to block punches , made for a super fight .

Rumble Jungle has to be one. Not even close.
@@uncletony6210 what's your top 5, unc? I'm interested.
@@boxingpedia Heavy?
@@uncletony6210 yessir.
This is tough because what do you leave out. But Ali v Frazier 1 has to be in there because of the historical influence. I guess I would take out the foreman Frazier as although historical for championship legacy it was a total beat down
@@2KDUDE22 what's your full top 5? I'd like to know!
@@boxingpedia I would go with your list, but replace Frazier v Foreman with the first Ali v Frazier, although it does seem cheesy to put 2 Ali v Frazier fights in there, those are legit the best fights.
@2KDUDE22 nothing cheesy about it, it's your list. I like it. 70s is my favorite heavyweight era.
If I had to rank the best fights in terms of actions in a top 5 :
1. Ali Frazier III
2. Foreman Lyle
3. Ali Frazier I
4. Foreman Frazier I
5. Holmes Norton
In terms of importance/context :
1. Ali Foreman
2. Ali Frazier III
3. Ali Frazier I
4. Foreman Frazier I
5. Holmes Norton
@tloustrats I like how you had the different lists based off criteria. I considered doing that myself. I think the biggest thing for me is which ones I'd want to watch again and never get tired of watching.
Good afternoon you are a b fellow boxing junkie.😮
Ali-Frazier 1, Norton-Holmes, Foreman-Lyle, Ali-Foreman, and Frazier-Ali3. In that order. All these fights were close except I felt Ali dominated Foreman but I put it in there for its significance.
@kingtyomama6564 that's a fine list you got there!
Lyle vs Foreman , Ali vs Frazier 1 , Ali vs Foreman , Frazier vs Foreman 1 , Holmes vs Norton
@angusbeyer that's a fine list you got there.
1 Frazier vs Ali I
2 Ali vs Frazier III
3 Holmes vs Norton
4 Foreman vs Lyle
5 Lyle vs Shavers
@carlmurray1781 very entertaining top 5, love it.
@@ajcaiati what's your top 5? I'm interested.
1 Ali Frazier 3
2 Ali Frazier 1
3 Norton Holmes
4 Ali Foreman
5 Foreman Lyle
@@alfovebraseth solid list, thanks for sharing.

Where is Ali versus Frazier I?
Couldn’t disagree more , as I was a big fan in the 70s. It’s Ali-Frazier 1… nothing else comes close…the Ali-Norton and Holmes-Norton fights were very good also . Ali -Foreman wasn't a great fight but was great to watch Ali show what a limited fighter Foreman was . Foreman quit boxing in early 77 after light punching defensive specialist Jimmy Young beat him . Holmes -Weaver was a great fight . Holmes -Shavers also
@jayedwards4787 that's the beauty of subjectivity, isn't it? What's your top 5?
@jayedwards4787 what an era, the greatest ever for the division. If you'd like a stroll down memory lane, I made a timeline I think you'll enjoy if you haven't seen this already: ua-cam.com/video/10WIyMo6B94/v-deo.htmlsi=Ms1QDobkbtqITmNU

Foreman is the greatest heavyweight of all time full stop
How can he be when Ali beat him ?
@@keithsymons5708 what's that got to do with the price of fish, why didn't ali fight him again🤔 besides you can't say ali is better,as he was beaten by Norton two of the three fights,Berwick beat him,Frazier beat him,Spinks beat him,Holmes beat him, there will never be a better heavyweight then Foreman!!
Foreman V Frazier was not a great fight it was a one sided massacre
One correction with the George Foreman Muhammad Ali fight George was not punishing Muhammad Ali believe it or not it was going Muhammad Ali's way buy secondary way the whole fight , George Foreman was being duked seduced and dragged out into the ocean the whole time the ocean 🌊 come and guess what he couldn't swim and he had weights on haha I'll see you all a little later
