well said, I think this video is super useful. I'm trying to work on similar things, however, there is one difficulty, for example, I want to work on my timing and energy management in the game, that means I will take 14 seconds to shot, I will call 2 timeouts a game. But that's not feasible in pickup games, does this mean I can only work on my pull side rollover (that's my weak side)? The thing is, for a RK to become AM or EX, energy management and timeout is a big part of the game, it needs time to practice and develop. Then my option is "playing less pickup games, focus on weekly tournament". Does this make sense? Another point is, having fun is a very important part of the game, of the practice, of the drills. I often realize I'm doing too many long-pulls that I am stagnating, doing other drills like rolling pull, dink, slingshot(maybe) will help to relax mentally and keep me on the table longer.
if your pullside roller is weak, then yes...you should be focusing on passing to your 3 bar, and working the pullside roller with mixed timings until the defender just starts camping there. Then hit another hole a couple times to get him off...then go back to it. I've never been a fan of needing to call 2 timeouts a game - just use them when you feel like it, or on really crucial points to make sure you stay true to your game plan.
@kickervideos Good stuff kicker. I agree - you do you. Last week, I won doubled at Denver's DYP and Singles...and there were multiple times I got the ball on my 3 row to win a match. I took a time out once or twice, but I also just kept playing...because I was in a groove. Regardless of my 3 bar time out decision...I always made sure to ask myself once I got the possession "do I need a time out? Am I calm and collected?" Yes? Then I don't need one." Also of note, I have been working on my 3 bar like crazy lately...so I have 0 fear or hesitation when the ball lands on my 3 row.
Yep - every man, no matter how old, owes it to himself to take the red pill. I don't agree with everything, but it's critical to learn it all...otherwise you're going to learn things the hard way...and it hurts! :-)
Great video, good points plus life lessons towards the end!
