3d importing is actually useful for me, i make 3d airplanes in blender for a hobby, and it's really useful to make parts of the build in blender then import it to stormworks, because stormworks building can be pretty tedious, and the workflow is much, much smoother in blender. I only use it for large builds like zeppelins or hulls because smaller things like planes dont look too well
Nice, this is what I needed! I always had problem making a fuselage that look better than block with wings Now I'm going to spam workshop....Oh I cannot upload to workshop.....You win this one, Steam! 9:00 Cut and stop! Don't glue it back, just edit HALF of the plane, then copy it, so you can see inside and edit it, better than using that cut-through view which is buggy 13:33 Slots?
Or otherwise script kiddies like to take premade code to hack computer systems, just for fun and they are annoying! 3D import however can be useful. I,ve built some of them before had stormworks and since I don’t have time to recreate them I just import them. Thats an example of how this can be utilized. All 3D ships I,ve built in the past I can now import. This saves a lot of time.
@@judgementalbird3384 Its not a bad software, if you dont upload random things, you can use it for getting the general shape, then smoothing it and y'know, acutally putting 1x4s n stuff into it

About what you said around 9:20, because I feel like you're wrong here. I don't think any of the better builders use 3d importing, myself and many others have made various techniques for hulls and fuselages, and there's really no point in importing because the builds just always ends up looking off. Just wanted to clarify that in case anyone thinks hulls and fuselages are (mostly) made by importing, I would suggest not using 3d importing and just getting good at remaking the shapes yourself. Anyways, Nice tutorial
I wasn't referring to the better builders - As of late, I saw a few things that were like ohh that looks really nice - went back to check the rest of their workshop and saw the previous builds were very poor compared to the latest. A pretty good indicator that the hull builder was being used. Thanks for commenting!
so i had a few problems and im still having one but for those who are bashing there head 99% of the time if you can not upload a model its your firewall data security blocking it because it kinda deletes the file and then modify the file and that was one major problem but mine rn is that its not responding after i upload a file.
When i try to export the file from meshlab it just stops at 83%, oh and it doesn't work, as when i try to import the files in the hull builder it just flashes, and now the other meshlab files doesn't even load, it just stays at 0%
It's very picky. two things you can try: use meshlab to reduce mesh and 2nd on export from meshlab try unchecking texture cord and color I think. Other than that it's pretty much trial and error
You'd have to build it yourself in a 3d program - or get the length you want and then import it into stormworks and manually widen it - there are no settings for different axis in the program :(
Oooh! I’d love to convert a certain simple planes project of mine over to storm works using this. It’ll take some effort but I’d love to get such a unique model all cleaned up and optimized. I call it the TA-71 turbo hawk and basically think of a pilatus turboprop with a T-tail, exposed turbine and wing tanks.
I have been failing at this so badly. Really its something i wouldnt use but ive been trying to get someone who is good at this to import a CN SD50F/SD60F or CP rail red barn locomotives.
I ran into that problem - I took it into blender and messed around for awhile - adding color and such - but even after I was able to get coord on the model and run it through meshlab then into hull builder - the model had issues - You could give your model a try in blender and see if yours works. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful than that.

There was one already :-P
This doesn't seem to take into account the newer blocks that would make models far far smoother in SW.
That is correct - I use it for reference points

this is actually not a great tutorial if you don't know the fundamentals of browsing files, not to mention V4.3 changed up how it gets files
