    This actually made me laugh during the review.
    I guess from her reacting to it so seriously to something so silly. It also means that bit about the sticker actually went somewhere, as an opener to this conversation. As an author, understand how difficult it can be to find new ways to start conversations, and getting to make a serious conversation (at least serious to the characters) start from something whimsical is just fun. I haven't seen this movie, but I imagine Daphne walking around the school all day with this until finally she runs into that one person weird enough not to just react to it, but react like "Uh-Oh, something serious is going on."

    • @dogmendogmen
      @dogmendogmen 11 місяців тому +2

      Not that her thinking monsters are a real is a point of characterization this is bad (I think it'd work even with how she's been characterized previously) The lack of depth in Daphne that the newer entries are trying to solve is a problem THEY created. Daphne became a journalist in the 80s and she continued to be into the 90s after Mystery Inc reformed. They could've even modernized her unique motivation by doing investigative journalism on her smartphone.
      Even before the split-up it's Daphne's family money that let Mystery Inc operate like they did, meaning that Daphne wanted to solve mysteries with the gang enough that she'd ask her family to bankroll Mystery Inc instead of doing fashionable socialite stuff.
      Daphne didn't lack depth, recent writers just happen to be as shallow as they perceive her to be and choose to let wealth, status and fashion define her.

      I mean, hell, if Abbott and Costello could pull it off, why not Scooby-Doo and the gang? They've done stranger crossovers with Batman and the WWE. Hell, even the Ghostbusters tangled with some classic horror icons in The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters, so I can see a Scooby-Doo/Ghostbusters crossover where they team up to investigate horror icons.

      @@jordanhunter3375 ok, so here's my idea: let's say the gang's passing through Happydale Heights, New Jersey when their van breaks down. While it's in the shop, they're offered residence at the local Addams mansion where they're properly introduced to the guest characters of the same name. Now, for this particular crossover, I'd use their designs from the 90s animated series since their last one was in the 70s. Let's say at the same time a two-headed monster is wreaking havoc in their home. It's smashing the place, busting their stuff, maybe even kidnapping Wednesday and Pugsley at one point.
      While the hosts (of course) aren't too bothered by this, Mystery Inc. feels that urge to solve the case. In the end, the culprits turn out to be the Normanmeyers (sans NJ).

    This just feels like they didn't have the budget to do Scooby's CGI and still wanted to make a live action movie based on those characters... but they could have called this movie "Nancy and Harriet" and it wouldn't make any difference. It feels so little like a Scooby Doo movie and was never advertised that I've seen at least that there's literally no point in trying to get more views by using known characters if no one even knows the movie exists in the first place... and they barely resemble those characters. I think it would have even been better if their names were changed because as a Scooby Doo movie this is terrible but as a stand alone kids movie with no connection to any existing IP, it's not as bad. And they had a kid in there who kinda looked like Fred but was a different unrelated character so maybe this was originally planned to have more than just Daphne and Velma but they recast "Fred" rather than firing him when his original intended role got cut from the script.
