Byron Wheelstand Contest 2019 - Full Coverage

- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- This exciting coverage of the Byron Wheelstand Contest 2019 is one of the most exciting events ever! Last years event was rained out so the fans and racers were all pumped up to get the event going this year. The previous winner in 2017 was the legend Brian Ambrosini and his orange AMC Gremlin do a 800+ foot wheelie and close behind him was Chris Pearce in the Chinto Ford Pinto who got 2nd place in that event. Also you get to see Rick Johnson and his black 1960 Bel Air doing a massive wheelie. Watch and see who wins it this year.
The prize for winning this event is not only being crowned Wheelie King but you also get $10,000 dollars. This wheelie event is always held at the end of the year/season (October) in Byron, Illinois and it is one of my favorite events to goto.
Sit back and enjoy the competition and be sure to hit the "Like" and "Subscribe" button if you have not done so already, thanks for watching!

thanks tom love the red chevy 2 at the start
That is a friend of mine in that Red Nova/Chevy II, his name is Jay Biondo. Awesome car, and it can do 8.5 seconds in the quarter mile while riding a wheelie like that.
@@tomeighty heck yeah looks just like my daughters chevy 2 but hers has a black top
@@jeremystrickland7767 Thank u sir . Tom eighty does some outstanding editing to make all our cars look great
@@tomeighty You rock sir ! one of the best around
Rick Johnson wins most unusual wheelie award
Also the award for the longest one wheel wheelie.
That’s what you get when you wheelie with an open diff
@@davidrobinson3148 or a worn out LSD
@@91mf technically he was the only one that did a "wheelstand" the others did "wheels stand" lmao
That black impala gets my vote for the best wheelie
Yeah he did 😎
Technically he had the best "wheelstand" since it was the only one that stood on one wheel lol
It looks way too good to be doing stunts like this! (But that suspension could use some work!)
I was right where he landed, it wasn't just a broke shock, he destroyed that rim too, it was flat on the bottom, and over the loudspeaker, he was looking for a shock and tire that would fit the entire race lolol like anyone had parts for that just laying around such a specific car
I just don't understand why the entire car went on one wheel like that. I'm guessing it was because of bad suspension but I like to imagine the engine has so much torque that it made the car go on to one wheel.
I want to cry when some of these hit the ground as hard as they do. lol
Yes
Ikr
I drag race myself and my wheelies are almost as crazy as the first one but we haveo a sytiem that smooths the landing part wY
I know
Everything can be fixed
Best 20 minutes I spent on UA-cam this month, awesome coverage Tom...impossible to pick a favorite wheelie, there are some wicked Chevys.
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.
Hell yeah, Chevy rules the game
@@tomeighty Appreciate the great content brother, keep them coming
LOL, but guys a Ford (Pinto) won! Even though it cheated and used a Chevy engine.
AMEN TO THAT BROTHER
The green Camaro sure isnt a quitter
Rich ard yeah but he definitely should’ve when that shock collapsed lol. Good thing it was a barn find and he can just find another to drop it all into.
@@skittles7168 Thought exactly the same. Crazy Guy that driver.
Dude is an idiot
The track should have stopped him. Not for his safety, but for the track's. It was a sure wreck.
@@jaycevessier7554 Yeah I didn't car for the Eff it just send it into the wall move. He knew that tie rode was barely holding on.... Put other people in danger for no reason.
The guy in the green Hollygood Camaro was stupid for trying with his suspension messed up already... Got what he asked for...
Yup! I was 100% he would hit the wall the moment I saw the front wheel was messed up.
honestly
Idk why he thought it would be smart
I guess they don’t cal him Hollywood for nothing lol
He was giving the audience a show! I commend his efforts!
Rick Johnson broke a wheel hub and a shock, and crapped his pants. So glad the old gal didn't roll.
Chinto 4 the win
I love watching these, but 10k just doesn't seem like enough for the damage it creates. Nonetheless love the vids!
For sure, it is more of a bragging rights kind of thing. The 10K wasn't always the prize, they use to do it for nothing for years (from what I heard). This was the 25th year they have been doing it.
the only man with three pedals and real gearbox did it best.
Which one is it ?
@@TURST67 The gasser Ford.
@@TURST67 7:05 - appears to be a gasser chevy of some sort
Carl Swenson a nova it looks like
Chevy 2 nova gasser
19:41 i died laughing seeing the Drag site First respondents came out of the car and both Fat. hahahahahaha. t
Glad to see you bringing this back
Thanks, last years wheelie contest was rained out so I'm really happy that it went down this year and it was just epic! Thanks for watching.
all thats going through my head while watching this is a moderator screaming: "MY BOY RYAAAAAAAN COOOOOPER"
i think im the only one who understood that reference
The red pinto was my favorite! I had one it was my first car. So when I saw it, it brought back old memories
The 60 that everyone is calling an impala is actually a biscayne or bel air
Yeah it looks like a bel air. Everyones confused cause it says its an impala in the video and they almost look identical. One difference I noticed is the impala has 3 taillights on each side and the one in the video has only 2 which makes it a bel air
Dj Spaulding yea and an impala has way more trim and a wider stripe with a rocket on the side
Seriously it looks like an impala
It says Bel-Air on the fender. Check out his rats nest wiring job at the end.
Great VIDEO! Great volume, great editing, great captions, exciting subject! OUTSTANDING!
Heroes like you are keeping UA-cam relevant.
That green Camaro is a perfect example of what happens when you let people run a broken car.
at least he has the money to fix it
When?
Why did they let the green car continue even though it was clear something was damaged.
They let him because he had fixed the car temporarily but he also has the money to fix it
what a dumbass, it was a nice car, now its trashed!
I was at Byron dragstrip back in 2005. Great facility plus outstanding video coverage by Tom
The green Camaro... WTF is wrong with you??? Haha I cant wait to watch this later with sound!
He was chasing the 10K
Yea he should have matted the gas on the way down... seemed he just let off
He is an idiot
You made the right move by posting this, I can see myself several times on film and filmed all this, shoulda posted lmao props to you my dude, T'was a great show
That orange gremlin and that purple cutlass have been doing the competition since like 2005, I remember watching them on Lucas Oil On The Edge on Speed channel.
The red pinto is a roaring insanity! Its short wheelbase makes it a perfect wheelie machine. Love it! Also the black impala does the most unique wheelie, love all of them.
Thanks tom...been waiting for this!
Awesome, thanks for waiting!
Instead of wheelie bars, make a wheelie bumper.
seems to be what Jeff wild has. 24:43
Yep. The yellow Buick had wheels in the bumper.
1000 hundred megatillion super thousand iq
That was amazing to watch.
Reminds me of the time I first tried to do wheelies in NFS Prostreet, wondering why I couldn't. The car was a Cobalt SS, FML
Looks like a fun event. Good video and good editing.
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
I can't believe I missed this again and I'm only a half hour away from the track
Great video ...nice to watch one without watching Every Burnout . Great editing makes it such more enjoyable watch. 5 stars !!
Thank you! I appreciate it, and I know what you mean about the burnouts really dragging a video out and making it boring. I try my best to just put in the exciting parts :)
I have to agree. Tomeighty videos are some of the best. I like the walk thru the pit areas too. You can see all the race parts up close.
@@falcon6223 Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
Hollywood must have Hollywood money, he’s always in the wall, even when races, he should try out a 6 cylinder might be able to handle that.
Not that so much than the need to build a front suspension out of steel instead of rotten balsa wood
That fat woman who waddled out the truck lol
more money then brains
The black Impala hurts to watch
Edit: and the green camaro
Tori L Needs to run it with an engine that makes the same power but rotates the other way to take that twist back out the chassis 😂 Thing was so crooked after.
Those old Chevys had X frames. They twist up real bad when they launch.
Its actually a 60 bel air not an impala
Man this looks soo sketchy....... and freaking AMAZING. IT looks so fun to watch. The impala and pinto FTW from me 👍
6:11 happened to my hotwheels every time when I was little
If only Joey hunt was still around, he would be winning this
Awesome video. I am a big drag racing fan. Just found your channel and subbed you.
Thank you, I appreciate it! And welcome to the channel.
Ah....the torsional 'rigidity' of the X-frame on full display... 😂🤣😂
It was more a display of the bennefits of a rear sway bar in a drag car
@@lb9gta307 really..?? Rear sway bars keep the body from twisting in the middle..?? Look at the front vs the rear fenders.. theres at least 25° of twist in that body... the left front wheel is a foot off the ground before the right front even starts to come off its stock ride height..that's torsional twist..
@@brucefisher4025 lol the car has a full cage. What you're seeing is the axle rotating, compressing the right rear suspension.
Ricks Impala is caged but uses the old suspension with (tweeks) so to speak.
It doesn't have a 4 link, it's a three link, and it's only on one side .
That's why it leaves so weird.
I was living in fond du lac wi.
And we are out drinking in the yard, and I hear something with open headers sounding wicked , so naturally I wander over to find Rick , working on the Impala and an s10 for his wife
There are hero picture s of this car at the Napa in Fondy.
He's a cool cat.
@@lb9gta307 what I'm seeing is a twisted body. Theres no possible way that the left front can rise 18" when the rear squats 12" without the body twisting somewhere between those two points... believe me, those GM cars were NOTORIOUS for it... and no cage is gonna stop it that's not tied directly to the OUTSIDE frame rails and this car doesnt HAVE outside frame rails. (Well, they DO but just strong enough to hang the rocker panels from..)😏
I'm only 30 minutes away from Byron, so hopefully this coming October, I'll be at the event this year.
Nice job on the Video!!
Thank you!
The Chinto was the winner by far. Great car for wheelies! Short, huge wheels in the back and the way he throttles one he hits the bumper makes it wheelie a long ways. Chinto wins but biggest balls go to Hollywood! Lol he put on a show.
i always cant wait to watch the yearly wheelstands one of the best things i look forward too.
my favorite wheely was the first one, seeing the video start off with a wheeling station wagon is awsome!
The black imp. is gorgeous , the dragstrip Batmobile ! Pinto vs. Vega showdown.
The Playground of Power!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
That black 60 Chevy is by far my favorite.
I was at this one and it was AWESOME!! Especially the chinto!!
been binging these since i just found them, good to see rick johnson get his wheels up this vid, weird how his car always tilts to the right so hard
Thank you for the awesome content sir enjoyed the video!
I am speechless, this is by far the most ridiculous contest but funny as hell to watch.
Thanks for sharing buddy love the wheelies keep up the great videos buddy 😎👍👍
The Chinto was completely badass. All 4 off the ground.
Wow id love to come watch that mate
If you are ever this way in October you can help me film this event :) It is amazing, I took my son here for the first time and he wasn't too excited about it but once he saw what they did he was shocked and couldn't keep talking about it. He started filming the cars with his phone and went and check out all of the cars in the pits. Great time, it's only a 3 hour drive from where I live.
@@tomeighty wow thats cool and one day i will get back over to the us and id love to help you film
twisted 60 Bel Air gets my vote, worthy or the slo mo!
Man that chassis must be junk now haha
Never have I seen a car more in need of a rear sway bar.
@@lb9gta307 or a quick brush over with the vacuum cleaner....
That damn black Impala boy is heavy!!! He must have a lot under the hood get it up in the air.
“With great power, comes great wheelies.”
- a good person
Its crazy when they get the next gear and keep it up i love that
Love these videos. I need that motor outta that Pinto for my truck. Lol. Good run to all of them.
Love the footage . awesome cars looks like a great time
Thank you! Yes I get really excited for this event, it is like my Superbowl of car events for me each year. Never disappoints.
Wow Giovanni from Philly. I'm gonna go do a wheelstand great show. Going the wrong way woooooo
Damn that was the best video i watch the last 3 month's
It was a fun year. I've seen longer wheelstands in past years but it was a good entertaining event this year.
My vote goes to the late 50's Impala. It had the coolest wheelstand going on practically one wheel. Really cool.
We ❤ Rick Johnson you are the best Rick ever 😊😄
Red pinto."chinto" has my vote.. Sick wheelie
I agree
My fav wheelie goes to the red ford pinto: 16:37
honest question from someone who prefers to have all 4 wheels on the ground and has no idea about wheelstand competitions: why dont they convert the cars to mid / rear engine ? i know it would be a lot of work but that seems more effective than having the massive weight of an engine all the way in the front where it has the most leverage to bring you back down. not to mention the extra weight of the parts added for hp
This isn't a purpose built competition its a once a year shot got a guy willing to break something to make 10k at the end of a race season. They do have cars that if they showed up like the cool bus (not 100 on that name) can wheelie the whole track but they typically get paid to show up and they might also have some prohibitive rules on cars that are only good for wheelies plus guys that have those cars wouldnt want to spoil the fun of the competition
I remember that track being wide but did they revamp that whole place and widen the track since 2005? or my memory may be bad.I do know it is the same announcer
Wheres stubby bob when you need him
That would be perfect for this event, I forgot about that truck.
wonder why there isnt any front wheel drive cars
As usual ... GREAT VIDEO
Thank you!
19:14 showman? more like wildman!
the black impala and chinto are absolutely amazing
Boy
Guy in green car: I'm Alive!!
That Orange Gremlin is legend around Byron lol
I live in Byron and watched this in person
guy in the stick shift car sure gave it the beans!! that thing is crazy
What's the rules.
Longest or the highest?
i think they judge the longest and the wildest
The black 1960 belair / Biscayne the one wheel wheelie awsome
Can't believe they let Hollywood run with clearly jacked-up front suspension. Lawyers dream and an Insurance nightmare.
Is it just me or do all the cars sound like monster trucks lol I like all of these wheelies
Lead behind back tires works great
That would make sense. You've done this before?
@@Thatdudewithatie thats how they hook and nos. Works. Better
What was that two door black car that blew the wheel hub and shock

nice vid man. keep it up!
no. 6 was insane!
Where do u find the race schedule for the street out lay races. Id like to go.if u could show me when and where id love to come see it live
If you just google No Prep Kings season 3 schedule you will get it. And the last race of the season is this Friday and Saturday in Texas. It will start up again in May 2020. Thank for watching Brian!
honestly i have to give props to that high and wild stick shift car!
Love the yellow and red cars wheelie signed August the 5yr old McMurtrie
Boy
My vote is the little red car that did a wheelie for almost the whole 1/4 mile
The X frame on the Impala was getting some serious torque. My fav was the Chevy shoebox. For Pete's sakes he was doing it with a clutch!!!
black chev impala @14:19 got my vote as best display of horse power & best wheelie.
This drag strip is for sale🙏🏻 man would I love to own a race track
Great coverage
The black Biscayne has what looks like fairly stock suspension!
It's ok to LS swap in some cases , depends on the car, or the year depending on body and current drive train
Thought that green Camaro must have gone to the junkyard, but obviously not yet.
My favorite was easily the "Chinto" with Greg Broshous' gasser a close second.
The Impala was the coolest wheelie but the coolest looking car was the long blue wagon
I thought I had a great knowledge of the older automobiles..but, what make/model is the ride @3:40 ?
Loving those fins!
It’s 60’ Chevy Bel Air
@@skylerhester6220 Thanks!
There r soo many ways of Beautiful cars
I have a strange dejavu feeling like this is from 2018 from the opposite side of the track. I’ve seen all this.
I want to go see this in person someday. Maybe even participate.
