People who haven’t seen one of these cars live have no idea how loud they really are . Santa Pod is a great place for a weekend away , with good natured crowd and fun after racing .
And if a person really wants to be a gear head, you really need to go to a track that has a group these behemoths. I go pit to pit during their warmup and there's no better experience. And it's been said it's better than sex.
I stood next to one on start up as a dumb teen. No one told me what was coming. I felt the compression in my chest. Felt like I lost some of my hearing after that.
It starts on regular gasoline to get it turning, then they turn on the methanol to get it nice and hot, then they hit the nitro for the Smokey cackle fest. Awesome video!
Not saying it’s smart but a cigarette will not light gasoline on fire very easily unless the conditions are perfect & nitromethane and methanol need a way hotter ignition source to ignite especially nitro so it’s relatively safe lol. We been around the old school guys that been doing it for years.
I'm no expert ... but here's what I think: it's to ensure there's no nitro in the engine. They never start an engine with nitro. It's too explosive: hence the bottle of petrol. I've seen teams have to abruptly shut down top fuel cars at Santa Pod. It isn't so easy to start a top fuel car up again. The teams have to keep cranking the engines until they've got rid of all the nitro. Then, and only then, can they start the engine up again. So, I guess they prepare for a clean shut down by squirting petrol in the blower and shutting off the fuel lever. The engine runs on petrol for long enough to purge all the nitro.
They certainly are impressive,,, never been told that myself,,,, but have been told,,, it's starting to smoke... you are doing it wrong.... and my record is 2seconds.😊

I was in just the right spot there ... just to the side of the exhaust so I didn't tear up or choke.
On the 7th day, God created Nitro Methane
On the 8th day he was driving one!
"I love this crackler so bad I will go deaf for it"...
Oh yeah, for comparison can you imagine the excitement in an electric dragster pit ? Fucking love this shit. Santa Pod veteran of 50 years.

Long live the piston driven engine!!!!
This just proves that drag racing is international whether it be NHRA, IHRA etc. smell the nitro, hear and feel the power of 11,000 horsepower
Where's there's smoke there's power

Awesome. Thank you. Can’t wait for Bradenton in a few weeks.
Finely Orchestrated!
When did the SAS starting drag racing?
If it’s loud outside in the NHRA pits, imagine how much louder it is close inside😊. Nitro gets gets in your blood 😊
At least the sponsor had ear protection on😂
I go every year to Sonoma raceway in Sonoma California u.s.a. to see and hear the big show cars

Go every year, Better than an orgasm. NOTHING prepares you for a top fuel run. The ground shaking heart pounding is unreal.
‘Better than an orgasm’???

This shit is so loud the table is vibrating!!!!
Alaric, your channel pic looks a bit like Harpo Marx. Is it, or is that a picture of you?😊
My channel pic looks 100% like Harpo Marx
A climate activist vacation
I think if climate activists started invading the track the crowd would soon pull them off .
Why was he pouring fuel into the intake when they were stopping the engine ?

@alaricpether2930 sounds pretty reasonable to me 👍
Big boy club.😊

One piston makes more hp than 2 of my V-8 engines !
You must have some pretty powerful engines. It would take five of my v-8 engines to produce what one cylinder does on these things.
