Anytime there is Kingdom hearts in a Marathon it is the most entertaining thing. Hobz and Spike coming up with the balloon idea just makes it that much better.

I love this environment. Runners always do their best, but no one takes the runs seriously. "Balloons in my face all run? Sounds like good fun for charity to me!" I feel like gdq would have shut this down for not being serious enough. But speedruns aren't just about the fastest time. They're about fun runs and the people running it. That's why the most popular speed runners aren't always the WR holders. And this is so much more true for events. No one running at an event should care about a record. They should care about having a good time, making jokes, and raising money for a cause.
This is what a charity event should be. Fun people, good runs, and a happy time.
Which is funny because gdq has been a joke for a long time with how their game choices and runners choice has been

Balloon %, plus they keep making more balloons as the run goes on, extremely entertaining.
Makes me wonder, is there a category where the Balloon spells are disabled?

@@fruitlion8 No, but I actually recommend using mostly mega flare outside of boss battles. It works a little quicker and easier in my opinion. Baloonra is better for targeting 1 or 2 enemies at most usually.
One of the highlights of the marathon. The KH bois never disappoint.
I think if someone cosplaying as Balloon luigi walked in, it would have been super awkward and funny. Hahaha
I love how magic in the handheld games like DDD and BBS is always suuuuper overpowered and normal physical attacks are pretty much never used ever
That's kinda bad tho.
Tbh wish I knew that before I beat the game using almost nothing but the basic attack and flowmotion... Though I probably would have had an easier time if I knew how to Spirit.
It's like that in KH 2 and 3 from what I've seen. Don't know about KH1 but I dare to guess magic is just really powerful.
@@willsword8100 cure, aero, and gravity in kh1 are all great spells. things like fire, blizzard, thunder (until you get thundaga which is like postgame) all kind of suck, 2 of those spells are defensive and the third doesnt work on bosses at all
kh2 has some strong ass magic too but it's at least in combination with melee attacks, fast melee attacks is what makes reflect especially broken while in the handheld games lots of magic tends to just be a kill button and melee attacks only do 1 pixel of damage
@@willsword8100 Not at all. 2 has Reflect, sure, but magic in both that game and 3 isn’t anywhere near as dominant as it is in the command deck games. 1 as well. In all of the numbered titles, magic is good, but dooesn’t hold a candle to how easily you can break the game with it in the handheld games.
Every single time I look up on the top left, I just keep seeing Spike, Hobs and Adam slowly getting consumed by balloons and disappearing. Great run and very entertaining :D
This has become one of my favorite runs ever, and ive only watched it this once. The commentary, the gameplay, THE BALLOONS! So glorious

This event is great. Laura was adorable. Nice to have a really family friendly gamer event to watch. A lot of the world is about edge now days, but sometimes you just wanna see people be nice and chill with each other.

I loved skipping forward and seeing them literally engulfed in bloons
I think this may be one of my favorite runs ever...if only because of how much fun everyone seems to be having.
I don't know what's better, the massive balloon monster swallowing the runner, or the little "guest star" just being himself! Maybe one day I'll be able to attend one of these!
Man Balloon just destroys this game worse than Magnet and Thunder destroys Birth By Sleep.
KH has a way of bringing people together, from kids to adults just to enjoy these games. It’s nice, and good run. May try making my casual run a bit faster.

ive been playing the series for the first time in the lead up to KH3 and when i got to DDD i fell in love with the flowmotion movement. its so smooth and fun, i wanted to see what a speedrunner did with it

Wow this run compared to the previous. Couldn’t finish watching ToS run the couch was so terrible. They were basically fighting at one point. This run was so much nicer, great couch, great runner, great run. Loved the balloons.

Look up NG speedruns as opposed to NG+. That'd be what you're looking for.

yeah dude this event thats almost entirely run by gdq staff and volunteers has completly different rules and tottally gdq bans people for having fun yep GDQ has never had a run called titanic where the runners modded frankerZ on naked ladies or Blue screens of death into cutscenes. then reinvited those runners to do it again

Ugh, I want to play this game but there are a lot of stuff that put me off, like the timers on Sora/Riku and the stupid forced pokemon shit.
The only time dropping is a pain is if you wander into a boss fight with a low gauge and don't finish in time, so it helps if you know when the boss fights are. I generally drop twice per world, like I try to do most of my exploring/chest grabbing as Sora, then drop right before his boss fight and do the same with Riku. Then boss time and onto the next world! :)
I'd take dropping any day over having three separate saves in BBS. At least Sora and Riku share Dream Eaters and commands...
The Drop gauge was slowed down drastically in the HD version, and a single Drop-Me-Not grants another 30 minutes without dropping.
The Spirit system isn't forced upon the player; it's possible to go through the entire game without touching that system once after the tutorial.
You get used to the "pokemon shit" after a while
You also dont have to do the more gimicky shit like petting them and stuff
Just spam the water barrel mini game, get a fuck ton of link points and you can level your dream eater's abilities in less than 10 mins
That's still bad design if you have to do specific things to avoid them...

It stems from a story element where wherever one character is, the other is asleep
It's intended to keep their stories going in unison
It's just not a good mechanic imo and could have been implemented better
From experience though, the game is really fun, extremely exploitable, but fun
