i started tearing up when you described how perfect and beautiful the night was. i’m currently engaged and we’re planning a small elopement/micro wedding and the thing i’ve learned the most is that the love and expectations of you and your partner are what matters. family, friends, and society all have an idea of what your experience should be, but if you and your partner are happy, that’s what it comes down to.

The proposal isnt the important thing, we've been married for 34 years, and its just one of many stories we have about our lives together. The best part of your story, to me, is how well you communicate with each other about your ideas and feelings. that is the hallmark of a wonderful relationship. Congratulations to you both.

Yes, that home proposal sounds lovely! It’s not about big, extravagant, or impressing other people. It’s about your relationship and the love you have for each other. Same with a wedding. It’s okay to elope and not spend so much money on a one time event, rather spend money on a honeymoon, a vehicle or a house.

The man of my life said to me one day out of the blue "Let's get married." And I said "I agree." No ring, no special occasion. No audience. It's not a competition. Having crossed paths with each other was the best thing that happened to the both of us and no object or amount of money can do it justice. Even today, after almost 14 years of marriage, I still jokingly say to him "Will you marry me again?" And we can laugh about it. 🤣
Side note: I am extremely happy to see this update. You guys keep doing what you do. Hugs and love.✨💕

I might be bias but home proposals are the best 😊 My husband didn’t even “propose” to me, it was over multiple conversations when we decided to get married. He kind of suggested we get married and I agreed. Then over a couple of more sporadic convos told our expectations of our marriage and long term goals. And the final conversation about it I told him okay, “I’ll ask off work one Friday so we can do it” So a little time went by and one day he was like “Hey, when are we going to go get married?” I was taken aback. I told him, “I didn’t ask off for about another 6 months, just in case you changed your mind and wanted to back out of us getting married” 😂 So he told me of course not, let’s go already. So I asked off the next Friday. We filed at the court for the license, and went to one of our county precincts where a judge married us. The judge asked us if we where waiting on anyone? We said No. Rings? Nope. Quick wedding or longer wedding? Short. We just looked into each others eyes and kissed when it was time. & you know what? It felt romantic and intimate and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. It’s like she said “What’s special is our love.” Especially for us as two shy people, it was exactly what we wanted, and felt magical to us the entire time, it was magical for you two, and that’s all that matters 💞

as an introvert myself, that would have been the perfect proposal setting for me. Just between me and my partner in a cozy home setting. I find it so much more romantic that way. thanks for sharing!

I’m so glad you guys are back! My husband proposed in a simple but very meaningful way as well. We were on vacation with my family but we had an extra 2 days there alone. We went to a nice dinner and when we returned to the Airbnb, we opened a bottle of wine. Under this single ceiling lamp in the kitchen (it was like a spotlight), we talked about our relationship and how much we meant to each other. Then my husband went to the other room and came back with a ring. He said that it was a year from that day when he knew he loved me. It was perfect for us. No crowds, no overwhelming pictures or anything. Just us in a kitchen, drinking some wine and talking ❤ We celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary in September!

My brother & my sister in law did the same thing! They were watching tv with their big 3 dogs around them. They were joking about something on the tv & bam, my brother pulled out the ring. My sister in law was so shocked & happy. It was very them since they’re homebodies. Congratulations to you two!
My husband proposed to me on Christmas Eve morning when we were opening our stockings in front of our Christmas tree before heading to family festivities back in 1999. We got married the following year; 2000; during December. Because this time of year is my favorite and is really special to me. Congratulations to you both and glad that another couple chose the same time of year. Our anniversary is now part of this special time of year. We now will have been married for 23 years as of December 9th.
I feel like doing things differently can be so scary. My wife and I ended up eloping and people had a lot of mixed feelings about it but I kind of realized none of it mattered, I just wanted to be married to her. Whatever way works for you is the right way 🥰
First of all I'm very happy you are back online. A lot of us missed you and felt a bit abandoned. Thank you for coming back to share your proposal story, and to let us know you two are ok. Secondly, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I wish you all the happiness in the world. And third, your "home proposal" was perfect. Where it was done makes no difference because it is a private matter between the two of you. When I see videos of public proposals I usually cringe because they are always so awkward. Plus, what if the woman wants to say "no"? Talk about embarrassing! In my mind a proposal is a deeply personal exchange between two people, and it should be done out of the public eye. Well done!!! Again, I wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
This! I completely agree. When I proposed, my wife first asked "What did my dad say" and after I explained it to her, all while on bended knee, I said "Well?" She of course said "Yes!" =)
My husband randomly proposed on a random weeknight, no pomp no fanfare, and were still together 11 years on-I think I would have died if it were some huge spectacle! So happy for you both and never feel like you need to meet someone else’s standards. You don’t need to prove anything to anyone except each other! Congratulations!!

I absolutely LOVE your engagement story. All of these big productions, the extravagant proposals - they seem more about the "likes" on social media than about the two people who are promising their love to each other. I so hope that more and more people go your route - back to making the moment a beautiful, intimate, loving milestone in their lives. If you and Ellen had done it any other way, neither of you would be true to yourselves in that very important and special moment. This was perfect. I wish both of you SO many more years of happiness, love and laughter.

As for your proposal, there is nothing embarrassing about having a home proposal. You guys are down to earth people. You don’t have to be showy, extravagant, or anything like that. All that matters if it’s special and Ellen was happy. Proposals at home can be very special and intimate, something that you may not get with a crowd watching you.

I'm so proud of both of you. I was starting to worry if y'all got split or something. I'm so super excited. It's doesn't matter where you propose at. I had weird proposal back in 94 and my husband walked in the bathroom where I was busy putting on my makeup for our date night. He asked me to married him, I was thinking about why the bathroom where he could had done our proposal anywhere in the house. He said, he was scared and nervous because he wanted me to married him. It's funny though but we got married one year later on September 27th. It's nothing wrong where you wanted to propose at. As long you loves each other.

It is such a heartwarming story. In my country, many girls will never receive their proposal rings due to cultural differences. So I understand how special this is for a girl. Most people on social media try to entertain the audience rather than express their true feelings to their love. So I think you did it in a great and special way that you both will remember for the rest of your life.

oh I love your proposal story it's so cute!!! I personally think that sometimes it's better if proposals are private, it doesn't need to be this huge public thing for it to be true or meaningful. You stayed true to yourself which I think makes the proposal 100% more authentic and beautiful 😊❤

Such a beautiful proposal story! The most important moments in a relationship are usually very private ones.
As an introvert myself, I completely understand not wanting to make a huge show out of an intimate moment. As with over the top, extravagant weddings, gimmicky proposals seem to be geared at impressing or outdoing others instead of focusing on the couple simply confirming their commitment to each other. I think your proposal was perfect for the two of you and incredibly romantic. I am very happy for the both of you and wish you a long, happy life together! I hope you can keep the actual wedding as simple and meaningful as the proposal. BTW, great to have you back! We missed you!!!

My husband proposed on Christmas Eve in my parents basement and it was perfect! We also got married in Vegas so we're clearly not fancy...but that was back in 2010 and I don't regret a thing! Can't wait to hear the wedding story eventually!
OMG I’m not crying, YOU’RE crying . . . 😭 so beautiful! So choked up over here! And I knew you were engaged because I’m one of those that watches all your videos, all the way through to the end. Because i love you guys & Miss Java and love being a part of your YT family. My proposal story is that Bob invited me over to his house and was showing me something in the kitchen and opened up one of the cupboard doors and pulled out a ring box from amongst the kitchen plates and handed it to me! I opened it up and he didn’t say anything at first. My mouth was agape and i just couldn’t stop looking at this ring. . . Still waiting for him to say something!!!! I finally asked, “What is this for?” LOL He said “will you marry me?” I said OF COURSE I WILL! After some moments, i read the box and the name was from a local Pawn shop. I asked, “You got this from the Pawn shop?” He smiled, “Yes, is that okay? I know the owners and they gave me a discount!” 😂😂😂😂😂 well this isn’t our first marriage to each other, we are both a bit used as well. Which is why I was started to sob when Ryan said Ellen said this is about our love, not about where or how you propose, but that it comes from the heart! ❤Love you guys! I was just looking up Sign Duo yesterday to see when the last upload was. Odd coincidence! Thanks for the update. This proposal story has got to be one of the best that I've heard. Knowing how much thought and stress you put into finding the "perfect" proposal, and hearing how she was able to put you to ease that it wasn't an elaborate or extravagant proposal that she was looking for, but she was just wanting to have it come from your heart. This just makes this story so wonderful. Truly a proposal which involves just the love for each other, and not diluted by any of the other outside stuff. Love this! Aloha!

So glad to see you're back! I really wanted to keep following you and learning ASL so I hope you continue to post! As for the proposal, a girl just like sincerity and genuineness. It doesn't have to be crazy or sensationalized. Sometimes those impulsive moments are the best because they aren't all planned out. My dad proposed to my mom in the same way: "Hey, you want to get married?" And she said "yes!" She is a complete romantic but he wasn't (he's since passed away), so she knew how hard it was for him to do that, so for her, that's what made it so special. Congratulations to you both!

My husband and I just gradually started talking about it after dating a few years and at some point realized we just wanted to be married and spend all (well most!) of our life together.
