About the voice change of Serj. He has rarely adressed it publicly (3 to 4 times tops). He has denied the change was due to any damage to his voice or age related. He has maintained it was due to his constant evolving as an artist, that it is a personal choice. He said he considers singing the same way for decades as, and I quote, "artistically redundant". I actually questioned him during a 2012 harakiri interview as an audience member about it and he said that as he grew older he realised that you don't need to yell to get your message out, that you can even whisper your message and still get it out if you are confident about what you believe in. It was an interesting response.
That's all well and good, but I don't think the problem is the lack of shouting... it's the fact that he stopped using his chest voice and started using his nose a lot more to reach those high notes. The tone of his newer voice doesn't sound nearly as good as his chest voice.
i feel after big day out 2005, serj voice started decreasing even more in power comparing suggestions from early in january 15:14 - 25:33 (which sounded amazing) and suggestions at 1:06:09 at festimad 2005 you can hear VERY audible change in his voice compared to january shows, his voice is even more softer
to me this is my favorite era because it was soad at their peak before fading out old songs in c sharp tuning gave them a new sound and often times performed with double their original energy like suggestions aerials and chop suey. you could hear the crowd scream the loudest as by this time people were familiarized with them. they had the biggest crowds by this time in the pre hiatus era john's drumming was totally off the charts and most technical sounding during this era. you can also study serj's style change from australia 2005 to ozzfest 2006
I don't like SOAD but I have so much respect for you doing this. You did it because you wanted to and it's something extremely unique, haven't seen anything like this on UA-cam. So much care and hard work out of passion and not views. I think few people can actually do something like this

Check out the Houston 2005 SOAD concert. Serj was on something else that night. For Deer Dance, Know, and ATWA we got hard glimpses of 01-02 Serj for a bit. Crazy. He must of had a wild hair in him about something. Its an amazing show.
Highway Song was originally meant to be just Serj on vocals. In fact a lot of Steal This Album stuff was that way in the demos. System just like sticking closer to the demos. Like in 2002 in Toronto, near the end of P.LU.C.K Serj sang the extra chorus that was there in the demo. Or in Chic N Stu where Serj and Daron leave out some of the "need-therapy-therapy" parts because it was played that way in the live performances before 2003 and the demo. Although P.L.U.C.K is not on Steal This Album, I used it as an example of them liking to stick closer to the demo sometimes.

@@brunobb1he sings both ways now, I know there was a point where he was almost always nasal but since 2018 he’s been using his chest voice more live.
I'm from the future and he has finally admitted his voice changed in recent interviews (2024)
