I'm from David's hometown of Kennett Missouri. That is my high school, gymnasium and football field. David's Dad, Dennis Nail was my high school band director and still a close friend. This video brings a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye every time I see it. Kennett was a great place to grow up.
16 years ago I joined the service, I left them all behind, they don't tell you that when you sign those papers, but I hear this and shut my eyes and I can still see everyone of them. And I don't know no friends, like the old friends, I never seem to laugh now, as when I did with them. Great wonderful song.
Another great thing about David...he does the best songs, no matter if they're his or not. That's why his albums dont have a dog in the pack! He has that ear for a great song and picks out the ones that mirror his memoirs to the point that you would swear they WERE his songs. He makes 'em his!! I'm sure Phil Vassar and Kenny both were thrilled when they heard David's classic rendition of two of the greatest songs ever! #1 hits for many singer/songwriters are elusive at times but a great cut or cover (i.e. "Hello" or "...Ghetto") by a first class artist like David, are bread and butter for a writer and a big time feather in their caps!! I absolutely love this one!! Right up there with "Sound Of A Million Dreams" ...and about 20 others in my own "David Nail's Greatest Hits"! Honestly there's not a single song of his I dont love...and I'm super picky and very hard to please. His music just does it for me, hits that emotional sweet spot, as it does for ALL his fans, friends and followers. I am really late to the rodeo compared to his long time "Nail Heads"! But I am seriously making up for lost time! Keep the faith David your best days are yet to come!! No worries tho, in the meantime, no need to panic, when you're doing show with songs as great as these, no matter the size of the venue, it's bound to be a huge kick! Cant wait to be part of that crowd someday!! I feel like it right now just watching this!!👊😘!
"I don't know no friends like the old friends, I never seem to laugh now like I did with them." As much as I hated high school, I miss the friendships I had. :(
I hated school till I quituated in my Jr Year to get married, but soon missed it after I was in the big ole world alone before I found a job at 16 & got us an apartment so we could hurry up & marry. My Bud's were all in school all day & I missed them awhile. We were parents a couple of months after we turned 17.
If this song doesn't take you back to some place earlier in your life, then you need to hit the replay button and listen again... Takes me back everytime!!! Great song!!!
this is the song they played when the ambulance brought my BABY SISTERS boyfriend home for his last days he was only 19 he lasted 36 hours after coming home cancer sucks.. we love and miss you CODY FIELDS 3-2-95 6-6-14
Refreshing to hear country music like I grew up hearing not the alternative country mess they have on the radio today.. David Nail brother thank you for all your hard work!
We recently saw David open for Lady A in Chattanooga. His voice may be even better live that recorded and that's not something you can say often. We were so impressed, we bought the album the next day. He's the real thing!
Favorite. This whole album is one of the most epic pieces of music in history and few know it exists.I drive around in summer beating the hell outta my trunk to this album in my 'stang. You haven't truly listened to "Mississippi" until you have played it through a high power audio system.
This song is one of the perfect examples that singing takes mastering a bunch of small skills. You can't just open your mouth and make noise, like so much of what we hear nowadays thinks you can do. A singer, a REAL singer, is a MASTER of skill. They do it for you and your pleasure, NOT THEIR OWN EGO.
I've commented & commented on him... I don't know why this guy hasn't made it BIG BIG!!!!!! Truly amazing........ Come on David, give us some more!!! :)
I absolutely LOVE this song and it should have done way better than it did. The complaint that I read about the song is that critics say it was “overly produced” especially at the end. Okay, my answer for that is…NOT over produced. The music was only simply trying to KEEP UP with David’s kick ass voice. So there. And I agree with everyone else here about David. SO underrated.
It's such a shame that this song didn't get the respect it deserved from "country radio." It didn't say enough about trucks, getting drunk or moonshine for them...
I hope David knows and feels how much his music means to so many of us...as much as I would love for him to have great "commercial " success, which he certainly deserves, that's not everything and I know that's not why he plays and sings.
Ole Tightspot and NOW!!!! The NEWFIDDlER!!!!!... Played my first highschool football game on this Indian stadium field love that feeling I have Everytime I induldge in this heart wrenching song and video!!!!....
Great memories of my Kennett home experience. Wonderful people with a warm heart, and open arms of love United in Faith! Pastor Virgil M. Seaber and family clan.......
Thanks Maria for sending me to this video-urgh! I loved and I hated it at the same time. "I hear their voices even though their gone." this part of the song got me; I only wish I could hear David's voice again. It makes me think of the song "One More Day" by Diamond Rio. If I heard his voice I would just wish for one more day with him!
Actually, he's retired from Kennett High School. He's now the music teacher for Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) in Kennett. I believe he also goes to the branch in Malden, Mo and does the music teaching there as well. I know this because I was a student of his last semester:)
What a fabulous song. . . cannot believe that it was released so may years ago yet was not heard that much on the radio. . . what a terrible injustice to a song that speaks to everyone!
The song is about his home town. His home town is about 20 minutes from where I live and it is a pretty small town. He's talking about how his town is like no other town and how he has not been able to find any friends or loves like the ones he had back at home.
i swear i moved away from my home town it took me forever to get over it i wouldnt eat wouldnt talk nothing but this song just makes me think i will be back home some day it will happen
I listened to every word and note beautiful and I remember all the nights I played guitar and sang and looked out into the crowd and got angry as I was at my best at everything I did but play guitar , I was singing like getting into heaven depended on it, and everyone was going on like we were just doing what we were supposed to bring people together so they could mingle and talk while we made noise to keep their conversations private lol 😆, then at the end some would say you are special but you need better quality people around you flattered and pissed at the same time because my family or band loved and played just as hard as I did, I didn't want to make it big , I just wanted people to pay attention and see that I could if I wanted to and say thank you for my efforts and sweating, putting all I had out there for them to love live music and see the difference between radio and entertainment , thanks David you played your heart out it was awesome!
David Nail is sooo Underrated, he has such great talent I wish the radio played more of him. He's been singing sense 2006 and no one hardly knows who he is....So Sadddd
I can listen to these guys all day for any occasion.. Country- R&B- Alternative...... Whatever catagory you want to put them in BY FAR IS THE VERY BEST and cleanist music I think I've ever heard. I'm a songwrighter myself at 45 I've my share of all kinds of music These guys have not receives enough credit
this song hits all the feels...... damn, this is good! Never twice the same way does it start And sure enough she stole my heart On that old gym floor Spinnin' 'round and 'round one night Though we both tried hard to wait We sure did love the taste Of the sweet love being made And prayin' I got it right That last line... Jesus it hits hard. Takes me back to the exact moment.
This song brings me amazing summer nostalgia from being a teenager in high school…graduations, parties, sneaking out of our parents late at night. I’ll never forget playing this song in the background of those moments in my life.
Lol I didn't know that other people would touch the ground when they left home. If you don't what that is about sorry.....you never will. This song touches me to my heart. I got see him a year ago and got three weeks till I see him again.
David you sound like Garth Brooks. Why haven't I heard you more on the radio here in Louisville, KY. NOW I AM BUYING YOUR ALBUM. You have paid your dues and now it is your turn. PLEASE become and entertainer on stage like Garth is....you will make it big...oh and don't forget to workout too. Why do you think Kenny and Tim have made it huge. YOU have a great voice. Congrats on your nomination!!!!
This guy came to the hard Rock in Boston I missed the show becuase I was two hung over but my buddy told me after the show he hung out at the bar and had drinks sad I missed it
2nd verse is the best verse in this whole song.. Its so true to life. You never do laugh again like you did back in high school.. And you'll never get that back.
Not only can he sing incredibly.....he is hot as can be!! So were all his band members!! Saw him in Kearney Missouri a few weeks ago....AWESOME show!!! You do Missouri Proud David!!!!!
Haven't been home to that small town in which I spent my first 30 years in over 12 years, but this song puts me there and I love it. I miss the 16th celebration in Perry, Oklahoma, the little town square I thought was where life centered. Thank you, David Nail for bringing home where I am now.
This song came out my junior year of high school.. I listened to it without end for those two last years of high school -- some of the most memorable and formative years of my life. Listening to it now takes me right back there. Thanks, DN.
been away from home for long periods of times, and yeah, i know the feeling when you come back and you leave in the car from the airport or train station and everything becomes familiar again and you make it closer and finally you're turning for home..
this son reminds me of Agusta county, In Virginia its where Im from and it also reminds me of all my friends love me some crazy memories. ah my youth it was some crazy times.
this song is the best representation of how I feel since joining the military, I might have changed but the old memories are still there and bought back whenever I go home...Great song!
Who's still lovin this song January 2025?
Of course I'm here in 2025
This song deserves so much more credit than it has gotten!
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.
The most overlooked man in country music! Such a pure voice!
Laurie Allgood how old are you
absolutely !! 👍
He didn't conform to their evil ways. That's why he's not mainstream anymore.
Agree 100%
I absolutely agree.
I’m listening to this song and I’m overwhelmed with memories. I’ll just let David sing me back. I’ll close my eyes and enjoy the ride.

i grew up in this town and went to school with David Nail
One of my all time favorite songs by one of the most underrated country artists - LOVE David Nail.
16 years ago I joined the service, I left them all behind, they don't tell you that when you sign those papers, but I hear this and shut my eyes and I can still see everyone of them. And I don't know no friends, like the old friends, I never seem to laugh now, as when I did with them. Great wonderful song.
One of the most underrated, underappreciated, and unspoken artists in country music. Period
Love u David..ur dad was my music teacher...I will always love this song
Great song written by Kenny Chesney! David Nail is very underrated. Love his music
+Jeff Halweg I totally agree!
ABSOLUTELY!! He deserves so much more attention than he gets!! He's FANTASTIC!!
I wonder why Kenny didnt sing it after writing it. Great lyrics has the old school Kenny reminisce about football love and small town USA
Another great thing about David...he does the best songs, no matter if they're his or not. That's why his albums dont have a dog in the pack! Kristiana Stiver my thoughts exactly. Adult friends dont compare to the friends we had in high school.

@@SteveHolsten Quituated, dude I love that! That is clever!
@@kylechellino2579 Ok. I haven't thought about the word in years. It was popular here in the Missouri Bootheel in the 70s.
@@SteveHolsten I actually never heard of it!
One of my all time favorite songs ever I absolutely love this

Nice place anyways I think it would be great to converse better through regular text my first digit is 616 followed by 675 then 298 and 7.
We need to get him back on the charts... Damn good singer!!!
My nephew was at the basketball game in the last part; said it was kinda neat watching the filming!
Who's still listening to this in 2022?
don't know why this song never made it to #1.... :(

I just recently discovered this guy...and I'm in love. Red Light is my favorite.

His voice is really distinct, it reminds me of Ronnie Dunn's voice.
Ole Tightspot will have to say no matter what!!!!! There's no friend like my old friend ole BOSS MAN!!!!!.....
I Miss Home So Bad.

Very true, raf29144! Maybe he'll begin getting more recognition, after receiving a "grammy" nomination for this song last night!

Damn good music, you won't hear on modern radio. They're too busy with Luke Bryan and FGL bs.
This song should have won the Grammy it was nominated for. I mean seriously...
Best Male Country Vocalist going right now in my opinion
