I recently bought this headphone. It is expensive but worth every cent you pay for that. A fantastic choice for musicians and audio engineers to hear the sound with the minimum colouration.

Agreed. Very good headphone. I wish it had a little bit more adjustability for fit, but it is a great choice.

Just got a pair yesterday and I am very happy with my purchase. I did a test against AKG 712, Hifiman Sandra and my 20 year old beloved Koss A250 ( which were cost me AU$500 at the time) and to my taste Shure sound is absolutely amazing, kills Sandara in clarity and sound stage, different sound pattern to AKGs but equally great. And yes they are very comfortable. Just my 5 cents….

And how you find em after this time? I really like AKG's midrange and trebles. Also don't think it's bass would be a big issue to me. Heard recently about 1840 and now I'm curious how it sounds against 712, because I have no opportunity to compare them live

to me, they sounded better than the k712pro. the k712pro had better bass, but the soundstage felt too wide compared to the srh1540. On a value basis, you could argue the k712pro is better, but then you'd also have to consider something like the Fidelio X2's, which are even better value. (though not nearly as good in terms of resolution or clarity.)

I only do Shure balanced from Sony NW-WM1Z and Lotoo Paw Gold Touch. I have SRH1840 and SRH1540. Amazing headphones. I Listen at low to moderate levels, so bass distortion is a non-issue. I love both neutral headphones and those with "body."

The 85dB bass limit isn’t really a weakness: you well suffer permanent hearing loss if you stay above 85dB for long.

@@gamingaudioguide9292 you're in for a serious surprise when you buy an amp 😅. They make sound out of a phone but they definitely sound a lot more dynamic with a good amp.
I'm pushing like near 1 watt peaks to my srh1540 with high dynamic range music.

I’m looking for a pair of headphones for my steinberg audio interface which has a 40ohms output (I’m no expert but this is what I understand) and these caught my eye since they’re not massively high impedance.
But if I want that extra ‘punch’ you mention, for movies and generally heavier bass, wouldn’t I need an additional amp to even get there? I would of course rather be spared the extra cost, in which case these seem to be my best option

@@FutureAbe what is your specific usage? music? games? monitoring? You want open back? I think the 1840 is a good, easy to drive headphone for your interface. you may pick up a little hiss when nothing is playing as the output impedance is rather high. you may be better served with something like the Sennheiser 58X. It's output impedance is higher, so it won't be subject to hiss from your interface but it is also a much more sensitive driver than the 1840, so your amp shouldn't have any trouble powering them.

@@gamingaudioguide9292 All of the above, although my work in cubase is just a hobby and I’m not at a professional level, in terms of production nor knowledge.
I’m leaning more towards closed back, since there is a bit of traffic noise in my room.
Also, I hear there’s less audio leakage in closed backs, which to me means I’ll get most out of the amp power.
Not to say I will be deafening myself with music, but I’d like few or no compromises on the headphones’ true capabilities because they’re not getting enough power. Over-ear is also a must

What's your view about sound quality if it is compared to DT1990, AEON and SPH9500 (all of them are seemed to be Flat curve Headphone)?

    • @gamingaudioguide9292
      @gamingaudioguide9292  4 роки тому +3

depends on what characteristics you are including in quality. generally speaking the dt1990 is the most detailed and resolving of that bunch and if you can handle the treble spikes, it is probably the highest overall quality.
Aeon is not one I have thought of vs 1840..... I guess I would call the 1840 faster, more dynamic. both have their own struggles at higher volumes and are not ideal for really loud listening levels. Aeon is more comfortable and has less grain but also a less natural timbre.
shp9500 is a great value and starter headphone and the most comfortable headphone maybe of all time for me. sound quality though... it gets beat in nearly all aspects by the 1840. hope that helps.

does open or closed matter? I'm reviewing the 177x GO Right now and it's a good choice if closed is an option. Another good closed option is the Sony MDR 7506. It's closed and folds down nice for travel. The Shure 1840 possibly for open, although they aren't as efficient. MEE Pinnacle p1 is great for an in-ear option.... Phillips SHP9500 on a budget. You have options depending on what all matters to you. Out of the above, the 9500 is the most comfortable, but also the least effective for positional accuracy (although it's usually good enough for a lot of people).
