    Thanks Olivia for this video about the holder for the appliquick tools! I purchased the set in Houston and thought these need a proper holder. Yours sure is. I used to do paper starch method, biut I think appliquick is going to be much h better. Your holder is just so cute! Well done!

    Greetings from Australia!… just subscribed to your channel and found theBBD QAL. Big BBD fan. I have many of their books. Also, love needle turn applique, I have done this technique for many years, live it’s simplicity.

      Hi Kerry! Are you on IG? I'd love to see your work! I'm enjoying the Apliquick method, but I'm a bit jealous of the simplicity of needle turn! I probably should have learned to do it that way first!

    Hi Olivia! Your applique stitching is beautiful! I can't believe you are so new at this! And your pouches are adorable! One other tool that I have recently gotten are the Applipops circle makers. They are like metal washers of various sizes that fit inside each other to make perfect circles really easy! I also just watched Lori and her flip-thru -- you are quite the pair of enablers! This is getting to be so much fun!!!!

      Thanks so much Suzie! I'll have to check out those Applipops! My circles are always a little wonky and Blackbird Designs loves their berries!

    Oh my goodness, Olivia, such a good video on applique quilting! Beautiful kits for applique! Inspiring. I have used many methods, except Apliquick, and return to needle turn. Having followed & admired Piece O' Cake method for years . Becky Goldsmith has several videos with very detailed instruction. Hope everyone finds a method that works for them! So fun working on Autumn Thistle from Cold Winds! Thank you so much! ❤

    Karen Kay Buckley scissors and circle templates are also awesome. I use neutral threads for applique…it’s amazing how a basic taupe or mid range gray will disappear on many fabrics. Looking forward to your next quilt videos! I have the Appliquick tools but haven’t ever used them. Thanks for starting the quilting “conversation”!!! Lori

      Someone else suggested her stem maker templates. I'll have to check out her tools! I admit I'm a bit of a sucker for tools. The neutral threads are a great suggestion! I have quite a few bright colors in my first applique quilt and it hasn't been easy trying to match them. I'll keep that tip in mind for the future. Thanks!

    Your appliqué looks great. Thanks for sharing your process. There are so many techniques out there it’s fun to see what everyone does.
    In my appliqué I use the Yli 100 weight silk thread for my appliqué. It’s very light thin yet strong it melts into the fibers of the appliqué pieces. It’s a cost saver for me, because I just have a set of light and dark neutrals so I don’t have color match at all and my stitches can’t be seen from the front.

    Perfect! You’ve inspired me to make an apliquick holder for my tools! Your’s is so adorbs. I hadn’t even thought of looking on Pinterest. I also like the little pouch you made for your thread. The bird pincushion was the perfect touch! I have the tools to use for the freezer paper method filmed and will be working on flip through later today. Hoping to get it posted this weekend!

    So fun to see what everyone uses. And your pouches are adorable. I love hand appliqué and do the needle turn method. My thread of choice is YLI silk thread 100 weight. Made in Japan. It glides through the fabric and buries itself for an invisible finish. It is a little pricey but you can find color sets on Amazon for a better deal. You can sometimes even just go with a medium gray for everything dark and a taupe for everything light. Let me know if you try it. Would love to hear what you think.

    Thanks for the video! Does the appliquick paper dissolve in water? I have some of the ‘hugs and kisses’ brand appliqué paper and was wondering if they are comparable ? I mean, it’s the same technique, but just curious if you (or any of the other bbdqal people) have tried different brands and have an opinion?

    • @OliviaBFlosstube
      @OliviaBFlosstube  3 роки тому

      No, the paper doesn't dissolve in water. I haven't tried the Hugs and Kisses paper. I remember hearing of it a while back but if I remember correctly, it wasn't easy to find near me. I did try using a light fusible interfacing instead of the paper, but it wasn't strong enough to make nice edges. If I ever come across the Hugs and Kisses paper, I will definitely give it a try!

    That was so nice but you spent more than my income for a month. Lori has the same approach so would you consider adding a person who does all this but without the expense like our amazing ancestors did? It's not necessary - but just a thought.

      Hi Kathie, as I mentioned in my video, I highly recommend looking at needle turn applique, specifically Jan Patek's tutorials that I link in the description box. Her videos are great and her method involves much less investment in tools.
