      Seems like most people are a mix of the two but froth at the mouth when accused of being either. You can see it whenever someone complains about annoying copypasta spam because people will show up in droves to say they did in fact laugh when reading the exact same botched use of an old quote for 5000th time & claim the people pasting it aren't just trying to get attention & that you should be nice to them. Right before telling someone to self delete for not liking spam.

      There was this funny political controversy a while back where this politician had this talking point about modern art and how bad it was. He whipped up a lot of anger, and people started harassing and protesting outside a specific museum with a modern art exhibit.
      The museum took down the exhibit, saying that it had become dangerous for their staff to keep it up. You know what the politician did?
      He called the museum, FURIOUSLY demanding they put the exhibit back up!
      It's like something out of some kind of political satire.

    God I love the setup and the punchline on this one. I've seen it happen over and over and over and over again on various platforms and groups and forums and what have you. The eternally contrarian, "I'm just better than everybody else" guy/gals. The "Why would I EVER enjoy myself when everything is SO SHIT" types. The "People who live in happiness are actually just mentally deficient lemmings that aren't smart enough to see the world for what it really is, unlike ME" mindset.
    How do I know those types so well? It was me, baby. I used to be exactly that way. Not anymore though, I'm so much better than those guys now.

    That's...surprisingly deep. It's true that some people convince themselves that they are fighting against something or someone, but when that's gone you see them rushing towards a new fight. They don't want to achieve something, they simply get that high of being a contrarian, perhaps a reaction of being raised by too strict a parents or something like that.

      yh I have a friend like this.
      They probably hate me bc they criticise the way I am as well. They even hate on kids. One day I had to interrupt them bc they got mad about a little girl on the internet who can speak multiple languages and started calling them a show off and talking about how they hate girls who are pick me's like her 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
      I honestly started laughing. I couldn't believe they were srsly that mad at a random little girl
      Sometimes I dont understand them Istg. They get genuinely mad at people and shame them for their traits. Not bc those ppl are necessarily harming anyone ☠
      They describe themselves as highly inteligent, differrent from everyone else, part of an exclusive group of ppl who are simply evolved from everyone else and they end up saying pretty hurtful sht.
      Their problem with me is that I'm too laid back, I speak too soft, smile too much and remind them of the "perfect girl" stereotype. That "annoying" girl who goes to church, does her chores, smiles at everyone, gets good grades, "dresses basic", doesn't smoke, doesn't do drugs, "is boring", is nerdy, is mostly shy, "has nothing special or unique about her", "is trying to please everyone" , "has an irritating soft voice" and so on. Honestly, I don't think I' m doing anything wrong by working on myself lol. And I used to be ashamed of my voice since I was a kid bc it's like it doesnt develop as quickly as I would like. But it's my voice Idk what they want me to do?
      I don't understand why they can't be how they want to be without shitting on others

      I mean, there kinda is always something to fight for. I just want to live a normal life as a trans dude, but with trans healthcare being banned and being home with religious parents, that fictional "we got rid of all the problems", is that, fictional.
      There is always something worth fighting. There will always be bad people who want to kill you.
      You are right about one thing, there are certain types of people who dont face these types of problems. They dont have identity issues, nor religious problems, nor face war, nor racial injustice, nor gender injustice and most likely is wealthy enough to live comfortibaly to achieve their dreams and live a normal life. Then what? They'll probably start problems, preaching that lgbtq+ are filth and should be killed, or pretending that theyre marginalized and are victims of inequality, despite being nepobabies.
      Yeah, these people exist. Most likely rich, white people who took advantage of other people to get to the top. People who are bored with their life, just to make grifting a profession, because theyre not skilled enough nor kind enough to actually want to make a positive difference in the world.

    James really captures the paradoxical nature of being an edgelord.
    Like "yeah i'm not like other people but i can't stand people that thinks like me too"

    • @freedom-verity
      @freedom-verity 5 місяців тому +86

      The truth is that herd thinking is always there, if you want to be normal, then you're normal, if you want to be abnormal, then you want to be abnormal. Truly abnormal people don't need to want something to be unique, they already know it about themselves. Nox is both the author's alter ego and his way of expressing satire towards society, so there is both a grain of truth and a grain of ridicule here. But this is a kind irony about himself, because Nox is an alter ego, not an abstraction.
      I would say that every abnormal person is abnormal in their own way, so harmony is rarely achieved and a point of contact is found, so usually when the edgelords come to power (as it was during the Great French Revolution), they start killing each other. It is much better when people are united by a common hatred towards the absolute evil for everyone than when they start cutting each other's heads already.
      So this is not just some abstract paradox, it is also confirmed by history.

    • @quantessenz
      @quantessenz 5 місяців тому

      I think, you missed some videos or the point of them. The last video is also criticism of social media (The answer). This video here isn't even a critique of social media, but of society generally (with a twist). Also Chilling with your A.I. homie and even Miyazaki is my Dad have aspects of criticism of society and the development of the Internet with social media, AI and algorithms. Rise of NOX is criticism of UA-cam and their algorithm. It can't get more critical of social media. Really, the list goes on: Elden Ring: Unironically Terrible, I wanna thank you Charlie, Back from the Dead and so on. They all have substance regarding these topics. It's just maybe not as obvious there as it is in A Life Without Facebook it doesn't have to be. Besides, Breaking up with Adobe has nothing to do with social media, and it is one of his best videos in my opinion.

      "Small happiness in a world ever more determined to extinguish it"? Has a semblance of being profound but is the world not better than it was? Sounds rather counter culture, govs want to keep you pleased enough to spread, only enemy states want to disrupt the system order. Of the information age the knowledge of the world's problems is just found naturally now... well the few popular parts of it anyway, we as social animals previously in primitive small groups are not built to well hear much of it. We feel an innate obligation to contend with it even if with our reach we realistically cannot. Still the majority are factually ignorant of most of the world's problems, not that knowing it all should be expected but that is the truth. The world is not conspiring to extinguish happiness, evolutionarily the trend is towards what benefits it's perpetuation no matter the costs.
