It’s refreshing to see someone who’s not so obsessed with minimalistic gear and making their pack weigh less than 10 lbs. Some people like to have comforts like a hot meal or extra layers!

Just started hiking in these Corona times at age 45. Good to leave the house and start living again. Bought the same osprey. I have half the gear, and its full. lol. Ive got alot to learn about packing.
That's good...all the gear and work comes down to your experience in nature! ( and being safe/comfortable ) That's what it's all about in my opinion. I think you'll enjoy it!

This is the third video I am watching for the ATMOS 65 in your channel, I really like this backpack, I can say I almost watched all the videos on youtube about it and read a lot of online reviews. I also made a video about it on my channel but it was more focused on the Osprey almighty guarantee. I am happy that there is now this video that shows you how to load the ATMOS 65!

Yeah, that is why I got the volt. Essentially, my son has worn it for several years. As he got taller, I adjusted the torso. Great pack. You have a great channel/videos. ✌️

I'm a little late to the party but I enjoyed your gear run down and the explanations of your choices. Like yourself, I also have the Osprey Atmos 65 and love the pack and how it works. Though I don't have to carry "winter" gear as I live in Hawaii, we do have altitude (13,000+ ft) on one Island and 10,000+ feet on the Island of Maui so we do have cold conditions at times And snow, on the Island of Hawaii at 13,000 feet. Again, appreciate you sharing your load out and gear. Be vigilant. Be safe during these COVID-19 times. Aloha from Hawaii ~

Hi Jason, Yes...works well...I like my cook gear all together. "Keep Hiking!"
They make foam sleeves for hydration bladders and their tubes that prevent water from freezing. I used them extensively with my skiing pack's bladder and never had one freeze on me.

I had a first aid kit like that, plus a bunch of added stuff like WATERPROOF bandaids and extra cold packs. I took it out of the bulky kit and put all of it in a zip-lock bag...takes up half the space.
Yes, the aid kit has padding and plastic etc...also with the zip locks you can see a lot of your kit....Keep Hiking! ( mine is going to be transferred )
I have that same sting/bite kit, have had it since 2011 and have used it twice, one of those times could have been life threatening my (now) ex wife got stung on the butt by a bee (she's very allergic) and I instantly used the sting Kit and she was fine. In pain of course but nothing came of the allergy/sting!

For your canister - I have seen some folks use a metal washer instead of the coin. They tie a string through the washer and hook on something on pack.
What is your pack base weight?
Hi LT, That's a good idea...my base is Atmos 65L-4.56lbs/ Kelty Cosmic Down-2.6 lbs/ Klymit Static V 18.7 oz/ Nemo Filo Pillow 9.2 oz/ and the good old REI Quater Dome 1 tent is 2lbs 7oz!...the cook set varies based on my trip.

I have this pack as well. Great pack for warmer weather, reducing back sweat, and increase back support. Not so great for strapping snowshoes to the exterior of the pack. New England trail conditions change too often requiring quick change between snowshoes, MicroSpikes, and boots. Have you tried the Osprey winter bladders made by HydraPak? HydraPak ArticFusion Hydration tube? HydraPak Force 3 Liter or HydraPak Velocity IT 1.5 Liter bladders?
Mi Mike, New England sounds like some challenging winter hiking! I hear it’s great outdoor country up there. I have not heard of the HydraPak Arctic Fusion, I looked it up it looks like it would work! …well insulated. Might be a good test to leave it outside overnight in the cold and see how it does in the morning. Thanks for recommending that. “Keep Hiking!”
My Osprey Volt also has the dual access side pockets, but my straps seem to go over the pocket instead of around it as yours seems to do. Makes it difficult to get a water bottle in and out, and if I use the front facing access my bottle will fall out if I’m not careful. Any suggestions?

Yes...it's over 4 lbs, not for everyone. Comfortable belt / shoulder harness set- up for me. Thanks for watching!

Hey Chris, have you ever weighed your bag before a trip with water/food/ cloths? I'm thinking of getting the same bag as you, but will have a load of around 52lb. Do you think the bag/myself will be alright at that weight? I'm 6'2, 220lb.

All that gear and only enough food for for 2 meals? :) I'm replacing my old army pack and I'm on the fence between the AG50 and AG65. I'm 68 & thinking the AG50 would force me to keep the weight down & leave the BBQ at home. Great video & a good list of essentials. Thanks!

It is a print of an old Yellowstone NP postcard that is enlarged and framed!
Curious about where you carry your tent - does that impact the way the bag hangs on your shoulders?
I slide mine to one side in the main compartment and the gear packed on the opposite side balances out the weight...for the most part...
Torn between 50 and 65. Probly would be doing 4-5 days max but realistically just 2-3 day weekend stuff.
Kind of depends on the type of gear you have ( tent/ sleep pad/ bag / pillow ) if it's ultra light and packs small a 50 would probably be fine if it's larger I'd look at the 65L.
Base Camp Chris thanks. It will be with my girlfriend so some of it will be split up, not sure if that really makes a difference or not compared to one person having to take everything just themself. I’m new at this so I doubt I’ll be super good at packing but I thought two 50L bags would be okay
Hey Chris. I love osprey too. It was my first pack. But how do u feel about osprey now is really moving to thinner fabrics. Less durable yet lighter. I wud rather have durable. I can't get on board with the thinner materials.
Totally agree!... they need to take a beating and function for you...stress points need to hold up....zippers/ material / stitching.
@@basecampchris osprey has cut their material strength in half. My bag was a 410d nylon and now the new pack is 210d nylon mixed with a 100d nylon. That's why I can't buy osprey anymore. Its just not thick enough of material. I love their designs so much but I can't invest in them no more. Thankyou for ur response Chris!
You are a nut! I mean that lovingly. so so much stuff. The complete opposite of my very light but complete kit. with similar equipment. I go into the sierras for about 5 or 6 days at 22ish lbs. How much does all this weigh? I say your a nut but I'd probably have a lot of fun hiking with you. Hike on
Hi Neda, I got 12.54 lbs on my base weight. ( pack/tent/pad/bag/cook set and my chair ) I do tend to switch things in/ out based on the trip / weather and time of year. The Sierras are great mountains 5-6 day trip is a good long trip. I did 5 nights in the Desolation wilderness last summer with friends...good time. Do you know where a good place to hang a fly rod and net is on the Atmos 65?
For the Flyrod - the Atmos 65 has 2 separate ice ax holders...I've actually hung a flyrod on here...you'll want to make sure it's secure...net back middle - hang the handle strap from the top from the gear hold down strap.

I bought a used Atmos AG 50. But I notice mine doesn’t have the two straps at the bottom .
Oh well, I think I can do without.
if your talking about the sleeping pad straps ...Osprey might send those out. Worth asking....All Mighty Guarantee should still work for you,
If you lived in the area and hosted a camp trip id be the first to sign up. You strike me as the type who if you didnt have the answer you would demonstrate it not getting you down.

I hope you’re not leaving those wipes out in the wilderness; they don’t break down like TP. They’re more like hand wipes, which you should never leave out or even bury; especially scented ones... Leave no trace, right?

I'm interested in that first aid kit you have. What's the brand name and where did you find it?
I had that same first aid kit. I got it at WalMart back in a day. Personally, I would not recommend it because of the outer shell that is made of paper, albeit a tough one. If you ever get it wet, you can expect it to start falling apart much like cardboard does under the same conditions.
Hi Jacob, that one is called the Eco Safety...got it at Walmart a few years back...it is loaded...the case as KEHTAP mentioned not the best quality but I haven't had trouble with it...the main thing is to get your bases covered as far as emergency first aid supplies and be packable so you want to bring it.

And what was the total weight including the backpack? Nobody EVER talks about total weight. All they ever say is try to keep as light as possible, but never say the weight that their entire system altogether weighs.
My system weight varies based on how long I'm going to be out/ how much food I'm bringing and which tent bag and sleep system I bring. I do understand that it would be good to know what the total is...I'm looking at a getting scale.

Ohh dear... Can you carry all that stuff???? Not do great as advice for beginers!
I show as many options as I can....switch out gear or only bring what is necessary for a particular trip.The trip length / time of year/ weather etc. determines what you really need.
