I’ve got a system that works for me. Compactor back with sleeping bag first with clothes around it, the tent and pad/pillow on top of that and cool system/food on top. Everything else on the outside pockets
Thanks for the great video! Here's a question I always had regarding this backpack: Can the hipbelt break? I've seen in many youtube videos how the hip belt wraps around the waist. It looks like it's made of some solid material. Doesn't that make the bag vulnerable during transportation?
What is the deal with the zippered access to the mesh compartment? ( the zipper is right above the hydration sleeve located inside the main compartment of the bag) It allows access to the mesh compartment that would be facing a hiker's back when the bag is worn. Are we supposed to use this as a storage compartment? If not, why is it accessible?
I just picked up the 2022 version and they have moved the rain cover to the bottom and you now have access to the main compartment from the left and right side.
Absolutely love this backpack! Besides using it for travel I also use it as a daypack without the top lid because it's so comfortable and saved my back from sweating on really hot days!
@@JeremiahStringer I mean I also use it literally every day, to school and work, because it's so comfortable. When some of my friends questioned why I bring such a large pack every day I show them the anti-gravity back system, and they get jaw-dropped by how awesome it is.
I've had this exact pack for 3 years and have been on several trips with it. I love the suspension, the hip belt, and the mesh that keeps it off your back as I'm a "hot hiker" in summer. It's been a great pack and was such an upgrade from my old Kelty Red Cloud that I wore for several years. Osprey makes good products.
It is an awesome pack. It is super comfortable, plenty of space, great compartments and great features. Expensive, but worth the price. I have used my pack on several overnighters and a 4-day backpacking trip through Olympic Nat'l Park and the Antigravity System really stopped my back from dripping sweat on those strenuous hikes.
I think you may be incorrect about the squeek from friend.... I had it on my old Atmos and sent it back ... it is the material rubbing on the frame .... Osprey have now powder coated the frame and the rubbing no longer occurs ... so the sales rep at Osprey said ... and my new one doesn't squeek at all !
The problem with getting a disposable suitcase to check-in the pack is that you have to travel back with the same pack, most likely on the same airline. You would need to purchase another Goodwill burner suitcase for the return trip. That can be problematic/expensive and, if travelling internationally, next to impossible. I had a very good experience with Osprey Airporter (medium size) on my trip to New Zealand and carried it through the Te Araroa trail.

I have the same pack and also use it without the brain. My favorite feature besides the comfort of it is the forward facing side pocket access for my water bottles. Makes it a lot easier to reach without taking my pack off. As far as the "squeak", it can drive you crazy. I tried spraying silicone lube on the suspension and pack material but to no avail. Hi, I'm looking for a backpack that can fit a 30+" video tripod inside the main compartment. Do you have a video about a backpack that has that kind of capacity? Or could you suggest a backpack?
I’m not sure there is a pack that would have the length inside to fit a tripod that large. Most packs have attachments on the outside so you can fasten your trekking poles to then. I’ve often used those attachments to fasten a tripod to the outside of my pack

@@JeremiahStringer ohh okay, but does the pack is still worthy to bought? Sorry bad english
Naufal Ariq all good. Yeah it’s still a good buy. Especially if you can get a discount. Usually at REI you can get a 20% off coupon once a year
@@JeremiahStringer okay, thanks bro
I have the same pack and also use it without the brain. My favorite feature besides the comfort of it is the forward facing side pocket access for my water bottles. Makes it a lot easier to reach without taking my pack off. As far as the "squeak", it can drive you crazy. I tried spraying silicone lube on the suspension and pack material but to no avail. I finally figured out that it was coming from the ferrule on the wire frame at the bottom of the pack. I sprayed a dry lubricant in it with a nozzle through the mesh an never heard the squeak again.
Do your 1L bottles ever fallout when you put them in the forward facing side pocket? Great tip on the squeak!!
Jeremiah Stringer Hikes 😂
I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one fighting with the hip belt pockets!
My water bottles never fall out of my Aura...
Those things will be the death of me!
@@JeremiahStringer No they don't. I find them easy to access and don't have to ask someone else to get my water for me.
Thanks for info on squeak
7:02 I hate those two things too but I still use one. keep a bottle with water in your pack then you'll know how much water you have left.
Love it!
Solid long term testing for this q and a . Great job hitting all main questions on it
Appreciate it. It has stood the test of time for me lol
Nice review Jeremiah.
Thank you very much 😊
I recently purchased the Osprey Kyte 46 for my Sheltowee Challenge 2020. I’ve only carried it with 20 lbs a few times so far and I love it! 🎒⛺️
Sounds like a quality pack! What’s your Sheltowee challenge?
A weekend each month of 2020 and a few day hikes will complete the End to End Sheltowee Trace Trail. (333 miles at this date) 🙂
Got it! Yeah I've heard a lot about it. I should probably participate 😂
Jeremiah Stringer Hikes absolutely! I thought you had hiked it. No?
Not yet. Just sections so far
Dude, awesome detail... I don't fly much, but it's good to know specific stuff like that... this is a cool series!!! 🌲👍🌲
Well thank you! I have fun with it
I'm using the Ozark Trail 65 liter pack. With the brain it came in at 3.68 pounds empty. After cutting the straps down and taking all the metal zipper pulls off and ditching the brain I have it down to about 3 pounds. I reinforced the shoulder straps with extra stitching. I'm looking at a LiteAf pack but for now it does the job just fine.
Super cool that you modified your own pack! Getting that weight down 🙌
Raincover IS included with the European version.
Good deal 😃
Yes a bear canister fits very well, even a larger canister, just pack items into the canister and then into the pack, I have no problem fitting large canisters into mine
Check out this video, winter load out with bear canister and fits everything in it very well.

There's a lot in that pack! Appreciate you sharing that vid. Hadn't seen his channel before
What are the two loops for athe the bottom?
They are for your trekking pole ends to stick through
Thanks

Bro got luggage from goodwill and then THREW IT AWAY. why not redonate it??? Wtf man. I was with you till you did that. The landfills are full. What a wasteful stupid thing to do. It costs nothing to just donate it back to a goodwill
In all transparency I left it at my friend Frankie’s house in Boston. I’m not sure what he did with it. Flew into RI from KY, got picked up, went to his house to repack everything, then headed to the trailhead. Maybe he still uses it 🤷♂️
@@JeremiahStringer oh that's a relief to hear!
@@JeremiahStringer I will have to take the tripod to REI post Covid. Hmmm maybe I should look for a all sleeve that would keep the tripod hidden and not too affected by the outside temperature.
Great vid bud....but wow...is that thing heavy or what? Had no idea it was 4 pounds. I'm still saving for the Zpacks Arc blast...I think it comes in at 22oz.
Lol I know, right? A subscriber sent me a frame-less 35ish liter bag that I am going to try out when I don't have to bring all my winter stuff. It weighs like 14 oz
Nice pack... but let’s talk about that beard!!! That beard is filling out great and certainly worth the extra ounces.
Excellent insulation value! LOL!
Exactly! Who needs a buff when you have some great scruff?
Lol thank you! XD I have been growing it out for a while now and I have to agree, totally worth the weight! Built in insulation. My students asked me if I was going to buy viking rings to put in it
@@JeremiahStringer You'll grow used to the added insulation until you have to shave and then you really notice the value! ;)
My beard will have an R-Value of 5 by the time winter is over 😂
Gotta say I'm pretty impressed how high you got your leg
Lol thanks. I’m nimble like a feral cat 😂😂
When I die, I want to be buried in a 300liter Osprey bag. I love Osprey.
Lol that will be the most epic funeral ever
50 pounds of gear? Do people often carry bricks?
XD who knows
Nice backpack but I'm a little bit concerned about the Valco hip belt adjustment. ( Coming loose with a weighted pack)
I’ve never had it slip before. Once you have it adjusted to your waist size you normally wouldn’t move it again
Someone on youtube had a problem on his hike that the hip belt came loose, the velco let go. And from what he had said it happened several time on his trip. For this reason I well not buy this backpack. I well look for one the has a sewn on none adjustable hip belt from Osprey
Makes sense to me. I would definitely send mine back to Osprey if that happened to me. It would be super frustrating. Especially if it happened on a long trail like the AT
Thanks Jeremiah for your replies
Absolutely! 🙌
Wait... did you just throw your logo?! Pretty cool video trick!
Lol thank you! Decided to start incorporating it in the vids. Hadn't seen anyone do it before and JK is Hiking thought of it when we were sitting down talking so I said I would give it a go XD
Brother you got hooked up with rei??
Lol yeah I am an affiliate with them. I bought a lot of my starter gear with them. Really getting into some cottage companies too. More specialized gear tailored to my needs :D
@@JeremiahStringer very nice! Good for you man!! That's where I purchase all my important stuff. You know
Yeah they have a great return policy and staff 😍
