      Bro your videos are awesome ever since I caught this Oklahoma brown I notice different stuff it does all the time like here recently it just started digging out it’s hide and the side of the enclosure and has been preening here and there also it’s been like shoving it’s but in the substrate in random spots is that something to watch? Or just doing it’s own thing I know it sounds dumb but I just want to make sure it’s nothing to worry about

    I want to take a moment to thank Richard for all he does for the hobby. He is a guiding light for keepers everywhere. The humility, honesty and commitment for truth is something we should all aspire to in the care of these animals. Never forget that T's are in our care not as pets but almost as miniature exhibits.

    Learning the difference between "hunker/hiding beneath the knees" and "death curl" really helped me relax a lot. The first time I rehoused a T, it immediately went into "hunker" and stayed for almost 24 hours and I was in such a state, but I looked it up on a forum and was able to reassure myself of what I was looking at. The T eventually realized he was safe and promptly bulldozed his whole new enclosure into something he was happy with, a process I really enjoy watching. Thanks for the tips!

  • @fullonsociopath
    @fullonsociopath 3 роки тому +19

    Sometimes they just die. If you have this happen frequently, obviously check your husbandry against the suggestions of people that are experienced keepers. But, sometimes slings just die, even when you are doing things right, and you thought everything was going so well. It is still a good idea to recheck what you are doing, but there are times when you will find it was nothing you will be able to pinpoint. Don't get discouraged, it happens.

    7:28... I have a G. pulchripes and she's a tiny sling about 1/2"... her enclosure rarely looks the same from day to day. As soon as the lights go out, she gets busy bulldozing. It's actually adorable, lol. I have an unknown species, and over the last weekend, she completely sealed up the entrance to her cork bark hide. I figured she was going into premolt. Webbing, dirt, sphagnum moss, she really did a number on it... but... this morning I found a web tunnel way in the back corner of her enclosure. Seems like the entrance/exit I created for her wasn't to her liking and she's created her own "back door"... I'll get the night vision camera setup tonight and see if she does the "I'm hungry" peeking out. This is why we love tarantulas ! You just stare and wonder "what's going on in that little head of yours ?".

    Gonna recieve my very first arachnid (female Chromatopelma cyanopubescens, or GBB) soon and Your videos are such blessing to me ❤ We all need to know as much as wr can BEFORE getting our hands on an animal. In the earily 2000's when I was getting my 1st leopard gecko, such informations were nowwhere to be found on the internet, but I'm glad to learn on my mistakes as well. Thank You for potentially reducing the ammount of mistakes I'll make with my GBB in the future ❤

    Glad to hear about the Aphonopelma chalcodes and hunger strikes lol mine has been on one for about 8 months now. I offer food every couple of weeks (and remove if not taken by the morning) I'll just keep offering and keep the water dish filled and fresh.

    Hi Richard! This was a great video. Since I'm new to the hobby and found myself laughing as I recognized a lot of these behaviors that my own T's have done. And yes my a.chalcodes has blocked herself off in her tunnel for the last few weeks. But I figured out it was normal to this species. But in February I had no T's and now I have 6 and an amphibian. LOL. Oh almost forgot my t.albopilosus's egg sac gave me 100+ babies. From 0 to 100's in three months.
    I do have a question tho, I went to Repticon and heard from a breeder that with arboreal T's to use primarily vermiculite with peat moss. Mostly vermiculite. Just curious since I also bought a GBB sling and need to rehouse her. Let me know please. Want some curly hairs...😆 🤣 😂

    Just got my first t about a month ago (C.darlingi) she mostly just hides and comes out every now and then but hasn’t eaten in the past 2 weeks. I know she’s in premolt but I’m still always worried about it being something else lol

    This put me at ease some what I have a cobolt blue and I noticed it’s lost a leg randomly I mean it’s still fine wondering round and stuff and there’s nothing it can hurt itself on but this video put me at ease with the missing limb info and climbing round on the glass and roof ! Thanks dude

    Preening. My versicolor was on the side of the glass with 6 legs tucked under it and was only hanging on by two legs lol. I have seen the 3 to 4 legs at once on my terrestrial species but six legs being used on an arboreal??? It wasn't even in its web. Spiders doing spider things lol

    Ok...I dunno if this is a thing, but my G. pulchra has been hiding in their barricaded burrow for the 12312 months. (its actually 4 months) I assume this is because they're about to go into pre-molt. They're booty is still plump as a grape, but a few days they came out of their burrow which I assume they want something to eat, drink water or that the weather changes, because it became much warmer here in CA. So I assume this has something to do with their levels of activity? So, I tried to see if they will eat, and to my surprised they still were responding to food I give them. They are about an inch in half. I know keepers differ in their husbandry and observations but I thought I'd share!

    Genuine question...Do only males do tapping? Because I've had a Mature Grammostola Rosèa and only once tapped on the floor and never done it since? So abit confused by this behaviour lol.

    #2, I recently captured a small brown / black spider. Not sure on the species, too small to tell yet. Black body, brown abdomen, thin legs, can climb acrylic, leaves web strands as it climbs. I spent over an hour just watching it explore the enclosure, methodically testing every corner. It'd climb up and stick a leg through the small gap where the lid slides closed, climb up and feel through each vent hole individually. Reminded me of that line from Jurassic Park "They test the fence systematically. Searching for weaknesses."

    Fam just rehomed our sheep, I was joking about what animals we could get for the area we live in in place of sheep aside from more dogs and cats. I have no idea how but for some reason or another I joked about getting a tarantula. 1 Day later and I've watched at least 12 of your videos, I plan on finishing the new keeper playlist before I dive in. What started as a joke is something I'm now extremely interested in. Going to wait until I graduate in a few weeks but bless you for making this topic so approachable.
