      Bro your videos are awesome ever since I caught this Oklahoma brown I notice different stuff it does all the time like here recently it just started digging out it’s hide and the side of the enclosure and has been preening here and there also it’s been like shoving it’s but in the substrate in random spots is that something to watch? Or just doing it’s own thing I know it sounds dumb but I just want to make sure it’s nothing to worry about

    I want to take a moment to thank Richard for all he does for the hobby. He is a guiding light for keepers everywhere. The humility, honesty and commitment for truth is something we should all aspire to in the care of these animals. Never forget that T's are in our care not as pets but almost as miniature exhibits.

    My rule #1 of tarantula keeping is "Chill out"

  • @MS-zo8tp
    @MS-zo8tp 3 роки тому +41

    Learning the difference between "hunker/hiding beneath the knees" and "death curl" really helped me relax a lot. The first time I rehoused a T, it immediately went into "hunker" and stayed for almost 24 hours and I was in such a state, but I looked it up on a forum and was able to reassure myself of what I was looking at. The T eventually realized he was safe and promptly bulldozed his whole new enclosure into something he was happy with, a process I really enjoy watching. Thanks for the tips!

  • @fullonsociopath
    @fullonsociopath 3 роки тому +14

    Sometimes they just die. If you have this happen frequently, obviously check your husbandry against the suggestions of people that are experienced keepers. But, sometimes slings just die, even when you are doing things right, and you thought everything was going so well. It is still a good idea to recheck what you are doing, but there are times when you will find it was nothing you will be able to pinpoint. Don't get discouraged, it happens.

Centipede that i bought... lo and behold about 4-6 months later she molted and had a BRAND NEW LEG... that was easily 4 or 5 years ago and shes doing fine still... just hanging out in her enclosure enjoying that Carolina weather ... re-growing legs doesnt ALWAYS happen but typically id say its true you DONT need to worry about missing limbs... either way they get by just fine with 7 or even as little as 5 or 6 legs

    Thank you I just got a curly hair and I saw it climb the side of the enclosure and I was so worried it was trying to escape or just uncomfortable with something

    This put me at ease some what I have a cobolt blue and I noticed it’s lost a leg randomly I mean it’s still fine wondering round and stuff and there’s nothing it can hurt itself on but this video put me at ease with the missing limb info and climbing round on the glass and roof ! Thanks dude

    Rearranging... That's happening to me right now. From my usually inactive G. porteri. About a week or 2 ago, she decided to pull all the sub under and around her water dish, to fill the dish with it. I've cleaned it all it 3-4 times already, but she keeps filling it up with it. It's simply annoying. Eventually, she'll return to her typical inactive self.
    Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)

    Thanks for making this video. My Grammastola Pulcra which i got dissapeared about 3 weeks ago, so i feel better knowing this is normal and they can go without eating for a long time. Hopefully it will resurface so i can feed it soon as it trapped itself in. Great video as always :)

    Hi! One more very nice vid!!! Always nice to see your nice work: short, precise and concise...with amazing images of beautiful Ts! 👍🏽🤘🏽 By the way, from the illustrations of the Death curl/preening/pre molt come from? Found them nice and they looks interesting!
    I've been worrying a lot for the hunger strike...during this molt my GBB just ate 4 times in a year...it's been worrying me a lot but...it's the way Ts goes! Even for a GBB!
    Thanks a lot🙏🏾!

    I remember the first time I heard the tapping, everytime I turned the lights on it stopped. Finally I saw my P. Metallica tapping away . Being photosensitive it took three months to find out.

    Another good vid, Richard! I'm sure you might have seen my posts about some slings that looked death curl or some that have molted and not recovered, I realise now that maybe I'm more responsible than I realised. Panic set in and I couldn't stop picking up their enclosures to check on them. Ironically, the one I messed with most that people more seemed to think was dying is actually the only one of the three molting that survived, though she damaged her two back most legs but is aware and seems comfortable now I've learned to let her get on with it.
    Thanks again for the good vids!

    Glad to hear about the Aphonopelma chalcodes and hunger strikes lol mine has been on one for about 8 months now. I offer food every couple of weeks (and remove if not taken by the morning) I'll just keep offering and keep the water dish filled and fresh.

    My room is sort of the "Room of weird noises" since Botia loaches make a very distinctive clicking noise, so when I get my first tarantula, I am fully prepared for more weird noises.
