I’m 41 and I beat this game for the first time today thanks for you. Got a time of just over 4 hours with 99% item completion after skipping that missile pack that required the tricky shine spark. Thanks again from a true fan of your videos.
@TheScribe1.0 weird flex... but ok. You sound like one of those people who still brags about scoring the winning touch down in high school to win the championship. Your name isn't Al, and you're not a shoe salesman married to Peggy now by any chance, are you? Lol
@@DietBajaBlast I've beat this game so many times, can't really call myself speedrunner, but practice makes perfect. I used to be bad at wallkicking (wall jumps) but gotten pretty decent now. I'm still bit bad at shinesparking, but takes time and you will be a pro :)
My favorite game ever made! Its a game that is super special to me. I was going through a very bad time at home and school, and my grandparents got this for me when I went to live with them permanently to help cheer me up, and I was completely engrossed. Thank you for making this UCBVG and now I'll stop going Super Metroid when?😂
Of course there have been a few gems from my childhood, that are runner ups like The Guardian Legend, Terranigma, Illusion Of Gaia, Secret Of Evermore and so on, but those are all pretty long games. Super Metroid can be beaten pretty quick by comparison. Especially if your name is Oatsngoats... 😅🤭
One of the best games ever made. Its atmosphere created the feeling of being isolated, and having to only rely on your grit and wit to continue. A true classic i still take my hat off to salute to this day.
This was an unforgettable experience when it was released. I made my way to Kraid, died, and realized I wasn’t saving each time (I was hitting the wrong button). I wasn’t even mad in the slightest, since I got to do all of it over again. It was THAT great.
Agreed. The experience playing it for the first time with fresh eyes was unlike anything else I've ever played. Prime came close, but Super Metroid was still the only one that ever gave me that feeling.
3:12:40 My head canon is that the Baby Metroid only recognizes Samus because of the health alarm sounding. Most players will lose to Ridley on Ceres Station, and he leaves as soon as your health dips below 30 and the health alarm goes off. The Baby Metroid comes straight at you in Tourian and only stops a few moments after the same alarm starts blaring.
Playing it at release was an amazing experience, but the fact that it stands up so well all these years later is what makes it one of the best. From solid controls to subpixel animation, every piece was polished to a mirror finish.
Super Metroid is my all time favorite game. I can't even count how many times I played through it and it never disappoints. Definitely going to set some time aside to watch this video!

So many great memories of this game as a kid. My parents bought it for me as soon as it came out and me and my cousin sat in front of the television playing it for I don't even know how long. I think we nearly started to grow roots into the floor. Ha ha My Mom had to make us turn it off and go to bed. Lol Oh how I miss the good old days. The nostalgia makes me happy whenever I think about it. Two kids playing this through for the very first time was a magical experience. I don't even know the proper words to describe it.,
To true. As my first serious play through of Super Metroid, the Pixel Art is phenomenal & The visual story Telling is exceptional too. I’m halfway through it now.
I was born in 99’ so I never got a chance to get an nes or snes I only played game boy color, advance, ds e.t.c. And Metroid fusion & especially zero mission had a big impact on me I loved everything about it. So recently I got an snes and am playing Super Metroid and it’s bringing me back giving me nostalgic and max vibes! After I beat all the OG Metroid games ima continue my prime journey on the cube and switch but will prob skip dread, it doesn’t seem the same as the other games.
Ah yes. Finally. I've been waiting for this game since I started watching your channel. This video will be a great way to spend my Saturday while I recover from my flu and Covid shots! I'm going to order some food, then settle in like I'm watching a good movie.
Wow your channel has really grown! I dont know whats so appealing about your videos. Maybe its your voice, and careful detailed commentary. Keep it up. I love your videos
Excellent choice. Always fascinating to see tricks I never knew about in my childhood favourites. Would love to see you do The Immortal, one of the only childhood games I couldn't beat.
Freaky, was just thinking this morning if there was a UCBVG on Super Metroid - far and away a favorite of mine - an lo and behold! Made my Saturday morning.
This game holds a special place in my heart ♥. This game I still play to this day and currently playing with my Son (9), and Daughter (7). Just to see them mesmerized how I can still remember this game from so long ago. Even Metroid 1 I'm still quite good at, but SM is on another level for me. Such a classic and I thank YCBVG for featuring this game. ❤❤
Same here. I still have my original SNES from my childhood but I first played this on the Wii virtual console. When I started playing it in my 20s, I would run home from work to play this.
Great video for SM! I remember one key point about the charge beam that a lot of new players seemed to miss was while having a full charge you'd gain invulnerability to certain projectiles while doing a pseudo-screw attack, not sure if it was a programming oversight or intentional but it was great defensively to have for Sporespawn.
I remember renting this game one weekend shortly after it came out in the early-mid 90's, before there was any walkthrough, or internet sites with tips or secrets. Watching this now makes me realize how infinitely far I was from making ANY progress in the game lol.
My favorite moment in Super Metroid was just before the boss fight against Kraid. You find the dead body of a human soldier, covered in Zebesian insects. You can't interact with it, other than to chase the bugs away, and you don't learn anything about the body or the person it once was, but it makes such a strong impression, especially since it is unique in the game. It tells the player that Kraid is dangerous, and sets an ominous mood that would otherwise not be as prominent.
Remember playing this at a friend back in 94, only finished it today! 30 years later. Absolutely lovely game, the sprite-art is beautiful (as with many Snes games) and hold up even today. Great guide! thnks!
I have been playing this game since it came out. It is 2024 now I am 50 and it's probably my 18th time but I NEVER got 100% completion until now! WOW I can't believe all the missiles I missed! Also 2 energy tanks and a reserve tank! I think my best was 93% before this! Thank you so much Great job, You are meant for this!! Metroid and Super Metroid are the 2 best games EVER! I love how his movie background inspired him in being a game creator! This is just like being in a movie!
I watch these frim start to finish.... I fall asleep because his voice is so soothing.... Plus it gives his channel a boost by watching an entire 3 hour video. Win win
Hell yes! This game was synonymous with the 90s for me. The music / sound and the graphics + large sprites made this game feel like you were entering into the power of the 16bit era and life was never going to be the same. This is the first game that was just too scary for me to play but I LOVED watching my friend CJ play it. We would stay up at night and play with his Xenomorph toy collection, listen to Weird Al and play the hell out of this game! Some of the best days of my childhood!
Thanks to your explanation I was finally able to do the Kraid quick kill. All those speedrun tips on webpages and other channels explain it very poorly by telling what inputs one has to do which are nearly impossible for a casual player. But you simply explained how the quick kill works and then I realized what I really have to do and finally did it. Thank you!
I would say I'm an expert level player of Super Metroid and I have been playing the game since it came out 30 years ago, and I have to say, that you did a fantastic job with this awesome well-produced video. You cover everything, plus give high-level tips and techniques. The maps, info and art you add in on the left side of the screen is a great idea, and you explain everything clearly and speak slowly so everyone can understand what you're saying. This is so well-done and I look forward to watching your other videos. Keep up the great work! 😎
Thank You for finally doing this one, I've been waiting for it. Super Metroid was my 1st Metroid game, I bought it a couple of years ago because I'm going back & getting games I missed as a kid. I didn't get far in this, but its still a good game
28:37 i've been playing this game since it came out on the SNES and because of this explanation, tonight while hanging out with some friends I performed a mockball for early Supers for the first time ever and it only took three attempts! The endorphin rush was insane. I never thought I would get it so soon or I wouldn't have done it off stream lol. Thank you!!! Your channel is amazing!! I absolutely adore the way you format and present your videos. It really brings me back to the old VHS tips and tricks tapes. Stay Gold 🌟
Super Metroid is my favorite video game of all time. And I still look forward to watching this even though I know the whole game by heart. Also, a bit more detail on the Crystal Flash: what it actually does is convert 1 of each munition into 50 energy. It converts 10 missiles, 10 supers, and 10 power bombs so that will recover a total of 1500 energy, enough to completely fill you to full with all 14 energy tanks, and a bit more into your reserve tanks. Also, although you need 10 missiles, 10 supers, and 10 power bombs to perform crystal flash, you actually need at least 11 power bombs because one is used to perform it. If you have exactly 10 power bombs when you try to crystal flash, the bomb you drop puts you down to 9 and it won't work.
I've watched so many randomizer races of this game that two things have been warped in my brain: 1. I almost forgot the intended routes. 2. It's weird not seeing the tracker! Thanks for covering another classic!
This is still one of the best games of the entire genre named after it, and has aged far, far better than its predecessors. I respect the original Metroid for being the catalyst, but it was *Super* Metroid that I feel was truly exceptional and not just 'for its time'. For a game with virtually no dialogue, it still might manage to make you feel something for the baby metroid at the end, too. There is something to say about the thought and craft that went into games like these, and I consider myself very lucky to have grown up playing them. Saving the animals is such a cool, hidden touch(that I could never find as a kid because that escape timer was always 100% panic and adrenaline), and a really neat cameo in Fusion shows that it's canon that Samus saved them. I love this dang game, thank you so much UCBVG, for bringing me back to nostalgia-town yet again. 😅
Dude, I have said it b4, and I will say it again. I absolutely LOVE your channel!!! Sometimes the games aren't for me, but then u go ahead and do a MASSIVE game like super metroid!!! I love your content!!!! Keep up the GREAT work, my friend. 😊 U have a subscriber for life!!!😊

Thanks for this! I followed along today and got 100% items and a time of 5:38 (did some backtracking and some exploring on my own before coming back to your video). Thank you for helping me revisit and complete this game for the second time in 29 years.
Bro, your the UNCUT version Of Nintendo Power. To my knowledge, this game never had a strategy guide and you blew the walkthrough wide open! AWESOMENESS!! YOU ROCK! THANK YOU!@ 💯💯💫
I Just finished the game for the first time ever with this guide! I ended up missing 3 Missile upgrades- oops! But luckily I realized before finishing the game although unfortunately I missed the best ending by about 20 minutes. This video was awesome!
Such nostalgia! By far, my favorite SNES action game and you did it justice as always 😉 I still replay this on the Switch every few months or so just to see what I remember about the item collection and map orientation but you completely nailed it in an effortless manner. I will look forward to future episodes! ❤️
I've played through this game countless times! I love it! The Metroid series, for me, is up there with the Legacy of Kain games in greatness. A few things in your play through that I do differently. So stoked you finally did it though. Hoping Mega Man 6 is soon. As a kid, I learned that you can bust up Motherbrain's glass and then go back to the energy/missle recharge station. For me, that felt like going in with a "full magazine" lol
You can bomb jump infinitely with a pattern of pressing the bomb button at consistent intervals of just under one second. Great video, as always, and long time coming for this, the greatest of all games.
I'm never going to actually play this game but it's always fascinating to watch a breakdown of everything going on that simply watching a letsplay doesn't show

I can't believe how easy you madeit look 100% this game. I don't know how many time I played thru this and only got 88/90/92%
I managed to beat this game 100%, though it was tough.
Respect
Wow! Despite Super Metroid being nearly 30 years old, I just learned about the Crystal Flash for the first time today.
Excellent choice. Always fascinating to see tricks I never knew about in my childhood favourites. Would love to see you do The Immortal, one of the only childhood games I couldn't beat.
Outstanding! Perfect watching on a rainy Saturday
I discovered this game very late. (I was an SNES kid). Arguably the best game ever!
Same here. I still have my original SNES from my childhood but I first played this on the Wii virtual console. When I started playing it in my 20s, I would run home from work to play this.
Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo - fantastic Captain N reference!
The way this is set up with the images on the side reminds me of the guides you used to be able to buy for these games. This is great!
Thanks for the awesome walkthrough! Definitely learned some things and remembered others.
Win win
Glad that he decided to cover this game 😊
Stay Gold 🌟
YES. Been waiting for this one. Know everything about this game but excited to see this one! Will be getting some snacks for this!
Super Metroid is one of my favorite games of all times, fantastic playthrough!
I've watched so many randomizer races of this game that two things have been warped in my brain:
1. I almost forgot the intended routes.
2. It's weird not seeing the tracker!
Thanks for covering another classic!
Yay! Been hoping you’d run this one. Easily one of my absolute fav games to this day 😊
This is still one of the best games of the entire genre named after it, and has aged far, far better than its predecessors.
Thanks for the upload during my September 2023 birthday week!
Dude, I have said it b4, and I will say it again. I absolutely LOVE your channel!!! Sometimes the games aren't for me, but then u go ahead and do a MASSIVE game like super metroid!!! I love your content!!!! Keep up the GREAT work, my friend. 😊 U have a subscriber for life!!!😊
You are by far, my favorite video game guide youtuber, I especially love your detailed maps and strategies on the left.
Yes! Have played this game through a dozen times at least but I was very much looking forward to yer video on it someday. Can’t wait to get home and watch
Thanks for this! I followed along today and got 100% items and a time of 5:38 (did some backtracking and some exploring on my own before coming back to your video). Thank you for helping me revisit and complete this game for the second time in 29 years.
one of my favorite games on the snes! i loved getting the best ending with saving the animals❤
Bro, your the UNCUT version Of Nintendo Power. To my knowledge, this game never had a strategy guide and you blew the walkthrough wide open!
AWESOMENESS!! YOU ROCK!
THANK YOU!@
💯💯💫
This is epic!!!!!!!! Well worth the wait! You made my weekend!
Going for a classic.
I played and beat Metroid and Metroid 2, but somehow I never played this though I loved my SNES.
Going to enjoy this.
Been looking forward to this for a while. I've thought about replaying this for a bit, and this really gets me in the mood. You never disappoint!
This is one of the games, if not THE game, that first gave me genuine emotional feels
You can bomb jump infinitely with a pattern of pressing the bomb button at consistent intervals of just under one second. Great video, as always, and long time coming for this, the greatest of all games.
I'm never going to actually play this game but it's always fascinating to watch a breakdown of everything going on that simply watching a letsplay doesn't show
Thanks for the company as I played through this for the first time since like 96... (will never let anyone know we played together though. Will take 100% Credit for the 100% and best ending).
FINALLY!!! IT'S HERE!!! I LOVE THE METROID FRANCHISE!!! ❤😍🤩🥰
Since he was gone a few weeks i figured he was doing another RPG, slightly disappointed it wasn't one, but glad it was one of the best games of all time!
I'm 41, finally finished the game for the first time. This guide helped tremendously. Metroid Dread was walk in a park compared to this. Thanks.
After getting just halfway through this, it’s mindboggling how complex this game is
This is one of my favorite channels. It feels like watching Saturday morning cartoons as a kid.
