    It's always good thing that you guys included history. Without experiments and growth, current Japanese TV animation wouldn't look like what we see today.

    Turn the *closed captions on* for this one! Neil Clingerman shows how the animation of anime evolved from Disney-style "full animation" to anime-style "limited animation", and the beginnings of #sakuga.

    Yoshinori Kanada was a legendary animater who had a huge influence on modarn Japanese animaters. There are some old anime OPs done by Yoshinori Kanada.
    You can watch those OPs on Japanese side of UA-cam other than the Braiger.
Plawres Sanshiro Opening HD.
    とっても!ラッキーマンop2
    ふしぎ遊戯 OP
    They don't look new but all those distinct animation style were started by Yoshinori Kanada.

    I just thought id answer the guy's question about which disney movie came about the same time as prince of the sun, um the jungle book came out the year before 1967 it was a landmark film the company, because it essentially saved the animation studio and walt died during production.

    A lot of cartoons were animated in Japan, that's why G I Joe is an anime.

    I've tried to indicate everywhere possible to turn the closed captions on. That's how it came out in the soundboard, so I can't fix it in post. (I briefly considered doing something as contrived as having Neil ADR himself...)

    Audio of showcased animations are much louder than panelists speaking.

    The Key animator of the wolves scene in Horus must be Yasuo Otsuka, not Miyazaki.

    • @richmondchaisiri8520
      @richmondchaisiri8520 9 років тому +3

      +MrKOCHIMARU I've seen that scene credited to Miyazaki before, but looking at it, it looks much more like an Otsuka scene. Even if it was Miyazaki, he would have been doing his best to channel everything he learned from his mentor Otsuka, who I think is a much better candidate for "dude who invented modern anime motion sensibilities." I think it's a broad simplification to say that anime was very Disney like before the 60s. That's definitely a huge influence, but all the examples shown as Disneylike are unmistakably Japanese. This is a tough topic to tackle in just a few minutes though, and these guys have done an admirable job touching on so many important concepts in one panel.

    So Little Witch Academia's Nine Olde Witches is reference to Disney's Nine Old Men? Isn't Little Witch Academia kinda cartoon

    • @SeanBires
      @SeanBires  7 років тому +4

      Not sure about the former but Yoh Yoshinari is fond of cartoons, and those sensibilities come through in his animation (and ofc. LWA) camonte.wordpress.com/2014/10/07/yoh-yoshinari/

    Can someone explain the comment about less drawings=less money?

    • @SeanBires
      @SeanBires  10 років тому +7

      More drawings --> more man-hours --> more cost. Anime is interesting in that production costs are fixed and therefore predictable. IIRC key animators are paid for each "cut" (shot), though I'd be surprised if that rate is fixed, because cuts vary in complexity and also the talent necessary to draft them. Inbetweeners & colorists are paid for each drawing. I've never worked in the industry so I can't comment on these practices in detail.

    You compared the 1958 movie to a disney movie which I found to be quite an outlandish claim. They are really nowhere close..

    • @Pangora2
      @Pangora2 9 років тому +6

      +Keenan Ris I see a lot of similarities. Given Toei's claims that they were trying to make Disney-like movies I think it holds up quite well. Also it is Full Animation, something Disney still and always has gone for. Modern anime since Tezuka has been Limited Animation.
