Quick correction! imaishi didn't draw all the eyecatches for TTGL himself; at least according to Anime News Network, there are several different TTGL staff credited to specific eyecatches Thanks again for everything!
If you're watching this in 2018 it's because I linked you here from something related to #NinjaTurtles 2018. I literally won't shut up about how much it looks like a show that was worked on by Hiroyuki Imaishi. I LOVE the way it looks. If someone tells you #Turtles2018 looks bad you link them here for an education. In fact I'll use Nickelodeon's hashtags so more people can find this: #TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles #RiseOfTheTMNT #TMNT #Nick #Nickelodeon #FullEpisode Imaishi Works (at Gainax and Trigger): Dead Leaves Re: Cutie Honey Gurren Lagann Panty & Stocking Kill la Kill Space Patrol Luluco FLCL Inferno Cop #TurtlePower 🐢
Where do these animators go to college? I live in america, and they don't teach these animating styles here, and i was just wondering where artists like these learn to do what they do.
it's called being creative. I hate to sound abrasive but whatever. They are already working with established styles that they tweek, just like everything that came before, SOMETHING NEW that they wanted to see with it is the name of the game. You'd know that if you were an artist, and you didn't think you had to go to college to learn it. You were never interested in the first place. just give up.
In Japan there are 2-year (I think?) trade schools for the anime industry. I can't say much about them in detail. After that, aspiring animators train by doing inbetweening work until they're competent enough to do key animation.
Ashuten Yoshinori Kanada, whose work in the late 70s through 80s inspired a generation of animators collectively called the "Kanada school". Imaishi is just one of them. Googling the name will bring up lots of resources & videos. Neil also talked a little about him in Pt.3 of this video series.

I've been wondering that for years.

lol, good luck. If only I knew what I was talking about, there wouldn't be huge mistakes about to be made.
Anybody know the song they played in the clip?
Who is the Kanada they are referring to Btw, as in his full name, & is that Imaishi's main influence?

Imaishi is the one I really dislike, apparently.
