I own the Kawai MP11 SE and I enjoy the sound of the Shigeru EX since years. Now I couldn't believe that they modeled it so that I can also play it with my much less heavy road keyboard. Fantastic.
I have bought a number of instruments and Pianoteq is one of the very few that I have had absolutely no regrets about buying. The sound is pure, and the dynamics are amazing.
I used to watch your videos to find new VSTs, but now is more than that. You do your work with so much passion that it inspires me deeply. Thank you for your excellent work!
Happy Thanksgiving! Been too long since i tuned in. You keep amazing me and all others. I play PT8 with my VP1 KB & Adam 7’s. Will be adding this to my PT library on Black Friday. God bless.
Great piano and demonstration Simeon!!! I'm an oboe player, pretending to be a keyboard player. So, I cannot play a LOT of notes/runs without the help of MIDI. What I LOVE about this VSTi, is how musical playing just a few notes at a time is; it is so full and musical!! I would go to this one to write chords and melodies (songs). It's so great these days that electronic programs can be fashioned into such excellent instruments!!! (It was only a dream back when I started into electronic music in the 1980's.) 🙂💙💛🧡
Yes, I am going to experiment with this and actually forget and leave it on MINT. I think this would definitely add some of the imperfections that would bring the realism up a notch or two. Stay tuned! Thanks so much for the feedback.
@@brandonvaughn2968 Check this video out where I experiment with the Condition Slider. From what I can gather it is the "tick" marks, as the actual values go from 0.00 (MINT) to 10.0 (WORN). I bought Pianoteq 8 for my iPad after watching this :) As I already have the Shigeru’s on my Kawai ES8, I went with the Petrof’s. Feels very alive and responsive. Also, I love that it runs smoothly on my old iPad, without Gigabytes of samples :)
It sounds great, and you play beautifully as always. =) - I would love to know: what app do you use to show the chords you play in that little box you have in the bottom part of your video?
Mike, thank you. I am using MIDIculous PRO (use the link in the description to learn more). It allows me to "float" the chord and keyboard display and then I can overlay those onto my OBS scene, it is very cool.
@@PraiseTracks Isn't there one which more intelligently analyses Jazz chords according to the key selected? I have seen such a thing but don't remember what it was.
Isn’t that wild! That is the key to the modeling question. It is not necessarily plug and play out of the box at times, you have the opportunity to dial it in to make it your own. There are a lot of possibilities. Thanks for watching.
Such a beautiful playing of my favourite pieces of music! Thank you 😊 Do you also play organ, Simeon? I mean, you use choir voices and stings - organ is after all very important in any church services. I was just wondering if you tried Hauptwerk.
When are one of the big manufacturers of digital pianos going either: 1. Ask Modart to license Pianoteq? 2. Give us a grand pianos sized Vpc1 / Avant grand cross, with haptic feedback and built in speakers. If there is a market for the Avant grand Nx3, I would imagine the market for 2 would be 10 time that size.
None! It’s amazing to hear these same sounds being played out of my iPhone! Your mileage may vary depending on the model iOS device, but I have had it running on a 1st gen iPad Pro and iPhone 8. Thanks for watching.
The software is software so it's the same, but the build quality of the DACs will affect the sound, once it's being routed to headphones or speakers. The soundcard and converters in tablets and laptops are pretty much the same afaik, so there is no difference really, but to do proper production you need a dedicated audio interface to also plug in microphones and instruments, as well as to output sound at a higher quality and process audio quicker with dedicated drivers. A decent beginner interface goes for like 150-600 bucks, depending on how fancy you wanna get. You absolutely can make music with just a laptop/tablet, midi keyboard, and a pair of headphones tho, and many people do. I started that way also, but at least I quickly ran into CPU bottleneck and latency issues so I moved from laptop to desktop, and got an interface.
@mtreder4 there are a few ways. If your midi controller has USB then you can connect directly that way. I have done this and ran the audio out of the headphone jack. When you need the best quality, I suggest a dedicated audio/midi interface like the ones from IK Multimedia, iRig that has the connections for audio and midi interface You can also use Bluetooth for midi control. I have a couple of devices I can connect my keyboard to so it can interface with the iOS device. Sometimes newer controllers have Bluetooth capability built in. I hope that helps.
Excellent playing. This piano sounds good but it is noticeable that this is not a real piano (sounds surgically clean, too perfect). Kawai has its own Shigeru SK and EX in its electric pianos. Based on a hybrid approach of sampling and modeling, they managed to achieve both realism and dynamic expression (leaving aside their use of an acoustic board and multiple speakers to achieve resonance and vibrations similar to a true piano).
Simeon, I haven't received any responses to my emails. I'm still waiting for some kind of communication about the prize that I won last week. Not trying to be pushy or anything but I would just like to know if I followed the process correctly.
I had sent a couple of emails to you a couple of days ago giving you some additional steps. Also VSL is working on it on their end as well, just making sure you had your VSL account setup. Sorry for the delay and thanks for your patience. Joyfully yours.
Not a fan of Pianoteq. Its responce is good, but the tone is still artificial to me compared with sampled pianos like the new Pianoverse which is amazingly realistic with more depth and harmonic resonance. I love what Pianoteq are trying to achieve, but for me its not there yet. I hope one day they achieve the quality of a sampled piano, that would be great.
I agree with you. Pianoteq has come a loooooong way. But for realism, sampled pianos are still the way to go. I will get pianoteq eventually. Great pallet of sounds. :)
Can't disagree more. I have tried most if not all VST's out there, be it sample based or not. What is called 'sample based' is just that, but all the processing that is done with these samples is very much the same as 'modeling', making these samples sometimes sound very artificial. There simply are no purely sample based VST's, because of the limitations they have. You just can't sample every key/note for every situation (loudness, dynamics, interactions, etc.) so lots of 'manipulations' are done, just like in modeling. What I do agree on is, that Pianoteq needs a lot of work (settings) to get it sound 'nice and natural', while some sample based VST's just sound great almost out of the box. So I use both dependig on the situation. Playability of Pianoteq is unmatched but often needs some work to get it sound right. With a zillion settings and options it is fun to experiment, but can be demanding for people who just want a great sounding piano VST out of the box.
@@ronjopp7169 Your point about the processing of samples being almost equivalent to modelled sounds makes a lot of sense. Thanks a lot for these insights. I will definitely grab pianoteq and play around with it. Huge thanks for sharing.
I got a Fantom 8 and its a wonderful board but many people don't like the modeling sound....I'd say it depends on the situation...some track, I'd rather use the modeled sound and for others, I prefer the sampled sound
