I love this game was so atmospheric that it allowed this and all our other personalities come out like we were actually going about our business. I was more of a emotion98.3 kinda guy
15:49 Her name, Mercedes, would be hard to live with because people would ask questions like. "How about a test drive?" Or "I sure wouldn't mind taking a ride in that." or something along those lines.
1:27:09 During that mission, the guys on those bikes actually have bikes with improved speed and handling compared to the standard one that the game gives you. You can easily beat that mission by getting in a car before the race starts, ramming them off of there bikes and quickly stealing one before they get back on, plus you can store it and keep it for later!
I usually do both of those. Also good to grab a caddy golf cart after Four Iron and store it, so you don't have to look for one later when doing Sunshine Autos Import/Export garage. The others I tend to just put in the 1-2 car garages in the back for later too, like Voodoo, Cuban Hermes, Mr. Whoopee and Baggage Handler. Saves time for later on 100% play throughs.
Fun tip, if you buy the Hyman condo before doing sir yes sir, you can put the tank in that garage. After the mission fails, the tank will respawn and be all yours.
So glad I still have original copies of this game with unedited dialogue and the Billie Jean and Running With the Night songs intact, as well as letting you use tear gas grenades. Pretty cool the cops can't usually get to you from the outside if you're inside. Rockstar would do a similar thing later with Bully when they let the player escape prefects or other authority if they made it inside the boys dorm or escaped being attacked from Jimmy's room.
im glad they're starting to remake all the Xbox 360 and PS3 games as i never even had those systems when they came out, really enjoying the Red Dead Redemption remaster
This was the game that truly shaped up GTA into what it is today. People will say GTA III did that, but to me, GTA III pretty much felt like the 2D GTA games, just done in 3D. Plus, it was hard to really free roam in the game, because by the end, virtually every gang attacks you on sight.
Interesting perspective. I never any title before 3, so I can't compare. I have a soft for 3. It changed everything I thought I knew about gaming. Vice City definitely laid more of the groundwork we're familiar with, so I agree with you there. I cheats all the time in 3, so I never had issues with the gangs attacking except for the Mafia
3 had that coffee stall mission 😡 The mini map was useless in staunton island. Vice city gave us colours, bikes, helicopters, a plane and women in bikini 🥹
21:28 - Mr. Black, Pierre LaPonce, Victor Vance and Pedro Garcia are only named in the VCBI Crime Record board in the official promotional (Flash) website
I kind of like how they'd have some joke missions like the taxi one where they just go around blocking each other to compete for fares and then later have the 7 taxis come in all dramatically to ambush you over it
I second that motion, but, as a musician myself, I really think they really got something going there. As Vice City is my favorite GTA and I can watch content about my favorite art for days, but this video really sticks out, and that's proof of honest talent. To stick out among the THOUSANDS video about Vice City I mean. I wish I had enough money to contibute...I'll give them my views and likes though. Edit: I'm half french, and the accent is spot on, that's why I love this mission so much. It may be a cliché, but I ASSURE you, the accent is...MAGNIFIQUE.
48:10 and that, class, is why you do the pizza missions on the first island (not to mention the early cash flux to help you buy the 3 houses with garages on the first island)
1:46:00 alternatively, you can park the sparrow on the ledge of the hotel opposite from Shrub's penthouse(the same one you enter if you do the mission properly), take the three photos, and hop right back in and fly right back to the studio... much easier, and less painful on your nerves.
This was so fun to watch, I watched the whole video throughout the course of the day. I picked up so many little details I missed playing the game as a kid. Hope you can make more of these types of longer form content/playthrough as an adult explainers with GTA 3, SA, LCS, VCS!
8 and a half minutes in and there's no way I'm letting it slide that you put the Risk of Rain soundtrack in this video. You are truly a man of culture. Love the videos. Gonna subscribe
I say this in the least possible creepy manner. I've fallen asleep to your voice many nights. Your videos and the research behind what you do are immaculate. Certainly one of the most underrated channels on UA-cam. But keep up the work. Your time is coming.
I remember the PS1 and PS2 had analog buttons, they were pressure sensitive so you could drive slowly if needed but you had to carefully press the X or Square button (usually just a corner of it) in order to get that sort of fine control.
I remember actually getting 100% in this game multiple times. I had it down to about 14 hours of total play time to get everything. It helped that you could get the cash to buy every asset the second you unlocked them. All you had to do was every rampage, every stunt jump, all hidden packages and every side activity (ambulance, cab, etc) and not spend any cash...kinda sounds a bit insane, but it was super easy.
Vice City. You mean The Best Radio if all time City? God this radio was good. Every station in this game I will listen to 9 - 5 every day of the week, and then the entire ride home and then the entire next week every week since 1999.
I’ve always really loved the M60 in Vice City and the M249 in Vice City Stories because of the sound. I know the sound isn’t realistic, but it’s like ASMR to me. I get immediate flashbacks to the early 2000s.
Bro, I love this vid so far. I just want to tip you on the Vigilante missions: You CAN spray FBI Ranchers and VCPD Cheetahs! I always use the VCPD Cheetah, because basically, that’s a (beep)ing Ferrari police car. 🤣 Also, the Vigilante (and Paramedic/Firefighter) missions can be continued indefinitely, as far as I recall, and it is not a bug. I think GTA SA did end the first time on level 12, but doing it again, you could go literally as far as you could bother.
It is possible that the Harwood area could have changed majorly between 1971 and 2001. There could have very well been a warehouse there! Great vid btw!
Anyone else notice that even tho the game isn't super detailed (mainly by today's standards) all of Love Fist's instruments (Jackson Flying V, what i'm pretty sure is a BC Rich Warlock, and a Fender Jazz Bass) are super detailed/on point with their real-life counterparts?
Sabre turbo is found in Sunshine Autos. If you take cars that are on the list under sunshine autos, for each list you will get a special car inside sunshine autos. The car you get for the second list is a Sabre turbo (the red Sabre with a white stripe that you said it was available only in that race mission where you recrute the driver for the heist)
Not that it's a major addition, but the taxi stand is also in Harwood. Sidenote: in GTA III if you do 100 taxi missions, a really fast red Taxi spawns at the taxi stand
As a 15 through 18 year-old this game barely ever left my PS2 being born in Florida. The West Palm Miami and Jupiter areas. I love this game as once I turned thirteen I moved to Connecticut and it reminded me of home. Being 33 now it's funny looking back and seeing how bad the graphics are and how good we thought they were back in the day
I passed Demolition on my 3rd try back in 02. On my 3rd attempt, I worked my way from the top to the bottom. Whenever I replay this, I use the same strategy and it never fails. Something about forcing yourself to learn the layout of the building saved me some frustration.
1:28:04 yeah, you can't kill them all... but you can carjack one of them to kickstart the race, and as they will only ever ride their assigned bike you will get the added benefit of eliminating one competitor right at the start, as you will already be racing by they time they stand back up.
Playing Death Row, I prefer to drive out of the scrap yard through a different exit further down where you should cross a small bridge over the water. From there, stay to the right and hit the main road where you can outrun Diaz men. Easiest way is to use a Bulletproof Admiral from Guardian Angels.
Hell yes with the bp admiral grabbed that up and saved it purely for this mission. Careful not to flip it driving there!! Not one to condone cheating but i discovered if you put all guns 3 cheat in as you are flying to phnom penh you can use the minigun from the chopper so so satisfying.
57:25 I loved this shit about tanks in GTA VC. Once I went so fast I literally did a 360 hop and ended up on a roof and died. I didn't see the thing that sent me flying in time.
1:58:30 Kinda a mistake, I'd say. You see, completing those lists unlocks special cars in the dealership, among them your beloved Sabre GT. So you essentially robbed yourself of your favorite ride by skipping Sunshine Autos.
Just wanted to say I really enjoyed this. I think this was the first ever game I was introduced to as a kid by my older cousin on the PS2 and it has stuck so hard with me even to this very day. After countless playthroughs, watching and attempting speedruns, the ins and outs of it etc I still just never get tired of this game which I would consider a masterpiece. It has also shaped my music preferences quite a lot along with SA. Great video, watched the entire lot 👍
Goddamn, i love long form videos like these! Can't imagine the amount of editing that goes into it though. But if i have learned one thing, it's Minigun. Always bring a Minigun....
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to hear a spaceballs reference in 2023 Fantastic video so far btw, I can't wait to see what comes next for your channel
There's actually 3 properties each with a 1 car garage on the East Side of Vice City. Still not much compared to all the garages you get on the west side between Hyman Condo and Sunshine Autos though. I usually store a Virgo in one and Caddy in the other for the import/export garage at Sunshine Autos later. If you play the game again, you should also grab Diaz's white Admiral after the Guardian Angels mission if you want for later. I sometimes do, since it's right around the corner, just outside the alley after you pass the mission. Plus it's Everything Proof, which can help early on if you need a car in later missions. I think for the Hunter to spawn on the helipad, you have to finish story missions or beat the game 100%. It should spawn at the army base though after getting all the hidden packages, maybe it's a glitch. Sometimes you have to leave and return to get vehicles to spawn as well. Not sure if it's a bug exactly, but the game just lets you continue Vigilante after Level 12 to earn extra money to buy weapons, property or to increase criminal rating, which some people like to do, even before it was an unlockable achievement.
1:07:39 I never realized the names of the people you have to kill are making fun of the main characters in other open world driving games at the time. Dick Tanner - Driver Marcus Hammond - The Getaway Franco Carter - The Getaway Nick Kong (Kang) - True Crime
33:27 for that mission, I remember when I first played this (I was 11 at the time lol) I remember struggling to control the helicopter for the first time, which lead to me failing the mission as soon as I started it. But as the years progressed and multiple playthrus later, I found the mission to be a piece of cake ngl, all you gotta do is avoid the construction workers and PIG Officers with Pistols. And it isn’t even that hard. Man, Vice City is such a damn classic
I was today years old when I figured out you don't take Mitch Bakers stolen bike out the same way you got in. Now, that I think about, it was fairly difficult and the ramp to get off the top roof is incredibly small. Oh well 🙂
My man forgot the best early game property, the safehouse right by the pay and spray in vice point by the bridge to leaf links. The first garage, and in a very convenient place. Also pretty cheap if I remember.
No joke I’ve played through this game dozens of times, yet I still watched this whole 2 hour video of a dude paying through it again haha what is wrong with me
I'd love to see you cover that Scarface game. What an awesome and overlooked title. There are some mods available that will help get the game running on modern systems.
My man I'm so glad to see the love for the Scarface game. It was seriously on Rockstar level of gameplay and quality for what it was. So much fun even if the later game stuff was a little tedious and bit tough but it's been quite a long, long time since I've played it. Getting a new PC soon and will absolutely try to get myself a stable working version of the game for it.
you can land the helicopter on the ocean platform to get that package. also vigilante mission keep going, pass 100. its always been like that, the pay becomes insane too
I like the fact that they took the time to put vic. in the very beginning for that character model, in the trilogy remaster bc i remember that small detail always bothers me in the context of both games
Using the tank turret speed hack with the dodo cheat, you can fly high enough to get a closeup of the "planes" that have smoke trails coming off of them. Turns out, they are just a flashing dot in the sky trailing smoke.
Also, I note you didn't buy and stock up Lawrence Taylor, erm, 'BJ Smith's' auto dealership... it also gives you 4 more two car garages and a free spray any time you need one
I'm very impressed by your work. However I'm curious if you'll ever do a video showing yourself recreating the soundtrack music. I'd love to know what you use. DAW, plug-ins, hardware etc.
1:43:34 actually it was the Second Movie which came out just before San Andreas In June Of 2004 but I would think they got that line from a Michael Jackson interview in 1993 where Oprah asked why did he grab his crotch so much and he just said it was just a natural feeling during the concerts and short films but hey what do I know except the Spider-Man 2 thing is true
33:10 there's actually 3, the one you mentioned, the one next to pole position and another one next to pay n spray close to the golf course Edit: The one next to the pay n spray actually has 2 spaces if I remember correctly or you just squeeze 2 in there lol
34:27 no if the heli gets destroyed you'll fail the mission , a reason for a lot of people saying this is mission is hard because of the bad controls of the ps2 controller in addition to that this the first time you drive a heli in gta vice city so getting used to the controls isn't easy .
a possible reason your controller didn't do auto-aim may be because you're using classic axis. If you are, you have to set it on the config to force autoaim.
57:09 To get the Hunter at Lance’s apartment you need to 100% the game. 59:05 The higher vigilante levels is not a bug, but what happened to you in this video is.
I would say going forward I would try to play the missions in as chronological order as possible, this should give a better sense of leveling with weapons and availability of items, this would quench to a degree some of your gripes of being overpowered but bar that you hit every nail on the head for me! I hope you do the rest of the series diving deep on all the links such as the djs and other characters following through, the stories games, all the side bits for 100 percent even, I noticed unless I missed you didn't do the car collection for the car yard which unlocks other vehicles.
bit of a tip for those who don't know. if you press all the shoulder buttons and X at the start like 2 seconds into the rockstar intro you can skip the commadore 64 and vice city intro screens and just start the loading for the game. thi works on the PS2 version and the one on PS4.
I think I finished this about 5 times. It's simply the best GTA game there is. It started to go to shit with the girlfriend crap they put in for 12-16 year old boys. As far as the music goes. It has Herbie Hancock - "Rockit" and Zapp & Roger - "More Bounce to the Ounce". The first was the song that started electric boogie/robot dancing and I had the second blasting from an enormous boombox, in the actual 80s. 👵 Those were some of THE biggest hits in the 80s here. Now I need a remake in UE5 with nanite and lumen. 😁 Oh yeah, every time with zero cheats, on pc. Just saying. 😛😏
This game is legend. I want a ps2 because I refuse to play the remaster, main reason thr lack of music.i always remember Michael Jackson playing on the 1st mission in every new game
Walker's dad let him play GTA when his age was a single digit, AND blockbuster let it to him? Did anyone have any responsibility? 😛 With the biker race and the driver mission, I found the difficulty the opposite; instead of bringing a bike I would jack another raver's angel to get a headstart, and as long as I could stay on my bike, the others often would not, so I could win without too much difficulty. In the driver, not only does Hilary have a much faster car that weaves through traffic easily without skidding, but you automatically get a wanted level, so the cops hinder you but not him! I never beat that mission without cheats, it was infuriating!
1:54:12 It's insane how little money Tommy is demanding for doing these jobs. Take out a small army of armed men, steal some merchandise, and fly a helicopter into an international airport (that the government obviously hasn't given you the heads up to fly into)? All for $16k? Even inflation adjusted, Tommy should be demanding a million for a task like this
The one thing I'll never forget about this game is driving around ocean beach at night while listening to flash fm in an infernus
I love this game was so atmospheric that it allowed this and all our other personalities come out like we were actually going about our business. I was more of a emotion98.3 kinda guy
Me, it was speeding through Vice City at full throttle on a PCJ 600 with "The Heist" by Wolf and Raven.
I also played GTA games alongside kid-friendly Nintendo stuff as a kid, and your uniquely in depth analysis works just as well on both
Living after midnight. Iron maiden

Kinda a mistake, I'd say.
You see, completing those lists unlocks special cars in the dealership, among them your beloved Sabre GT.
So you essentially robbed yourself of your favorite ride by skipping Sunshine Autos.
I feel like this is the game that most people were introduced to the GTA series through.
Thanks for putting in the hard work. Perfect editing, the voice over is calming during the intro. You nailed it. It looks like you had fun making this
Had no idea Ray was Tommy all these years. RIP to a legend.

I must be getting old some missions id totally forgotten 😮
Awesome video! The only thing I can say is, do this again after 100%ing the game. It's definitely worth the grind.
You get the Sabre Turbo from the Car Showroom business.
58:20 imagine a tank goeing so fast it flips in the air and smashes you after travelling 2 kilometers on its roof/turret
33:20 there is also "Links View Apartment" which has a single car garage for 6000 to the left of the bridge nearby the exploded tower.
THe Candy death had me buckled!!!
Also, I note you didn't buy and stock up Lawrence Taylor, erm, 'BJ Smith's' auto dealership... it also gives you 4 more two car garages and a free spray any time you need one
happy to see more GTA videos again - any chance on a similar retrospective for GTA LCS or GTA VCS?
In Vice City using cheats causes your Criminal Record to go negative
I'm very impressed by your work. However I'm curious if you'll ever do a video showing yourself recreating the soundtrack music. I'd love to know what you use. DAW, plug-ins, hardware etc.
This is some great in-depth work and would love to see more videos from you in this style.
41:36 When Lance is dancing, what is that audio that's playing?
1:43:34 actually it was the Second Movie which came out just before San Andreas In June Of 2004 but I would think they got that line from a Michael Jackson interview in 1993 where Oprah asked why did he grab his crotch so much and he just said it was just a natural feeling during the concerts and short films but hey what do I know except the Spider-Man 2 thing is true
33:10 there's actually 3, the one you mentioned, the one next to pole position and another one next to pay n spray close to the golf course
Edit: The one next to the pay n spray actually has 2 spaces if I remember correctly or you just squeeze 2 in there lol
"Stay In Drugs Kids And Don't Do School" I'm dying 😂😂😂😂💀
1:43:48 I know its 10 months later but thats the 2nd Spider-Man movie, not the first, which came out after Vice City in 2004. So its not a reference
I don't know why I just noticed this, but once you notice, you can't unsee. No GTA character had fingers until GTA 4. They all have glove hands.
nope, GTA: Vice City Stories is the first GTA game where the characters have fingers, only in the cutscenes though
2:14:45 Dennis Hopper as Steve Scott and Jenna Jameson as Candy Suxx also spring to mind
Hey. Meth or Addys? Is your stim of choice
You played the game in a great mission order. I play it way more straight forward which turns out not to be as fun as dragging it out some
34:27 no if the heli gets destroyed you'll fail the mission ,
a reason for a lot of people saying this is mission is hard because of the bad controls of the ps2 controller
in addition to that this the first time you drive a heli in gta vice city so getting used to the controls isn't easy .
Bruh I've done that mission multiple times and it's super easy it's not that hard
I pressed ▶️ for the content topic…I STAYED for “vig-a-lahn-tee”😂 Salute! I dig your content bro!
a possible reason your controller didn't do auto-aim may be because you're using classic axis. If you are, you have to set it on the config to force autoaim.
He really doesn't care
It's really not
57:09 To get the Hunter at Lance’s apartment you need to 100% the game.
59:05 The higher vigilante levels is not a bug, but what happened to you in this video is.
I remember not having to 100% the game for that hunter spawn
I had completed all missions and collected all hidden packages
I thought I was the only one who loved the m60.
16:00 its bc the cars are named random things so mercedes would be like if your name was one of the made up names in gta
That infamous line, *I sold you out*
bit of a tip for those who don't know. if you press all the shoulder buttons and X at the start like 2 seconds into the rockstar intro you can skip the commadore 64 and vice city intro screens and just start the loading for the game. thi works on the PS2 version and the one on PS4.
For auto-aim you have to switch the controller type from standard to classic in the game menu however, the camera becomes clunky
We need a new Vice City 👍
GTA vi will set in Vice City
... better than the "definitive" edition
You do know GTA VI is going to be set there, right?
I'm Spanish and what I understand from the Mercedes bit is that it is typical old lady name. Like Angustias, Soledad or Carmen.
I’m not sure how, but at like 7 I inherently knew that you had to jump down for the mall rampage
Those were some of THE biggest hits in the 80s here.
Now I need a remake in UE5 with nanite and lumen. 😁
Oh yeah, every time with zero cheats, on pc. Just saying. 😛😏
Never save the game at the Cherry Popper Ice Cream Factory
Worst mistake of my life
great video guiness, glad to see you’re back!
With the biker race and the driver mission, I found the difficulty the opposite; instead of bringing a bike I would jack another raver's angel to get a headstart, and as long as I could stay on my bike, the others often would not, so I could win without too much difficulty.
Even inflation adjusted, Tommy should be demanding a million for a task like this
46:53 you can see the temptation to take the chopper over the pizza scooter
