It is highly recommended to lubricate the threads of the valve stem with waterproof grease before installing to greatly reduce wear on the threads and your spigot will last alot longer and you won't get that loud squeaking noise when you open and close the valve , if it leaks at the packing nut , You may have to remove the packing nut and add a little bit of packing and install the nut but apply a little bit of waterproof grease to the valve stem before installing the packing to prove a better seal and prevent wear to the valve stem where the packing goes Also tighten the packing nut just tight enough where it doesn't leak , But don't overtighten the packing nut , Add a little more packing if needed
@@thebudgetwisedad you're most welcome You can find waterproof grease at Lowe's and The Home Depot in the plumbing section where the faucet repair parts are , When you take out the valve stem , Remove the packing and apply waterproof grease to the valve stem where the packing goes because otherwise the packing can wear out the valve stem , , Then install the packing and the packing nut , The waterproof grease provides great lubrication at the packing and provides a better seal so you just snug the packing nut just to where it doesn't leak Overtightening can damage the threads of the packing nut and the valve body
