    Val is a good choice for 99. Knows everything about what happened during that time and has no reason not to tell the truth or pull any punches. WCW Timeline will be epic.

    Here are the best parts:
    Tells a great story about the Amazing Owen Hart ribbing him. The whole story was very funny from start to finish.
    Tells another great story about Al Snow ribbing him.
    Tells a quick,but funny story about Jesse Ventura.
    His comment about Hardcore Holly in relation to Bill Goldberg was ridiculous.

    Basically he's suggesting that by '99-'00 even the mid-card guys in WWF were more over thatn the top guys in WCW. He's actually not that far off. Think about Rikishi and Too Cool and how over they were and there the definition of mid-card.

    It's not the "PG" era that is killing WWE. You can still be creative and be "PG". The fact is that WWE Creative is not...well...creative. Creativity has nothing to do with adult story lines. If you are a good writer, or a good producer or booker in this case, then you should be able to come up with material whether it's "PG"" or not.

    When Crash Holly won the Hardcore Title and was put in an angle where he said he'd defend it 24/7, he was over like rover.
    That angle made Crash huge for, admittedly, a very short space of time but he was still over, and it has to be said, for a short time, more over than half the top stars in WWF and WCW, Goldberg included.

    2 things:
    1) when the hell was crash holly bigger than goldberg , can someone tell me that?
    2) From what I heard, D-lo slipped on something that was thrown into the ring thus causing him to slip and drop Droz on his head.

      Its more than likely what Val meant was, as cruiser/hardcore champ, Crash got as much screentime as Goldberg who was the b all & end all of WCW. It was the same at TNA when Corny was GM when the knockouts & X divs got as much airtime as the HWS.

    What was the deal with his story that ended at 2:15? I thought I heard "Eddie", and it did say "Angle" - obviously, that doesn't mean 100% he's referring to Guerrero and Kurt, but I don't follow this one at all.

  • @ffreplica515
    @ffreplica515 12 років тому

    In a way it's sort of true just in the sense that in 1999 the WWF as a company was WAY more over then WCW, and as Sean said Russo made sure that pretty much everyone on TV meant something and was over in their own right. So from that perspective, if you are JUST considering 1999, and if being a star is ONLY measured in how over you currently are, I would say Crash was bigger as fucking weird as that sounds.

  • @coolins112
    @coolins112 12 років тому

    While blame rightfully should fall upon the creative department. An equal amount needs to fall upon on Vince, he can stop any angle going through, or tell them to only concentrate on one specific angle. Which does seem like it has been happening as of late. Point being, they are both to blame - at least now we are seeing a good storyline being developed with the AJ angle.

  • @DUBtheTIGER

    I do realize that, but you can do things one step at a time. There's a difference between flat-out saying "No" like Austin and saying "Hey Vince, I've got this idea and I feel really strongly about it. I know this will get over". Especially with their promos, it's been said by everyone from Triple H to Punk that no one HAS TO read their script... as long as they get most of it, they can add some of themselves into it. But most of these guys have no personalities and that's why they aren't stars.

  • @maxpower789z
    @maxpower789z 12 років тому

    WWF was drawing a lot more viewers in that time frame. Just because Goldberg was the #1 guy in a #2 company doesn't mean that "lower" act in a #1 company can't be more recognized or well known. You think heavyweights Cole Konrad or Dave Cormier from Bellator and Strikeforce respectively, are as popular as, say, Ryan Bader in the UFC? They are the number 1 guys in their company but with far less viewers...but you're right, Goldberg being overrated is irrelevant to this fact.

  • @FryngeMinority
    @FryngeMinority 12 років тому

    I Iike Val, but I think he's confused a bit. He says Crash Holly was a bigger star than Bill Goldberg, and that was due to Vince Russo. Well, Vince Russo left WWE in Oct 99 and Crash Holly had only debuted as the cousin of Hardcore Holly in Aug 99. He didn't start the whole "24/7 Hardcore Rules" until later - early to mid 2000. So not sure what Val's talking about here.

  • @JohnBoyAdvance
    @JohnBoyAdvance 12 років тому

    I think its an exaggeration really. Mr Morely knows this but it works Crash Holly back in the day was a hell of a lot more over than most of the mid card today.

  • @TheNotoriousMC2
    @TheNotoriousMC2 12 років тому

    Precisely. Some of the best films of all time are "PG" at the very least. The main problem with WWE writers seems to be that they are inconsistent and at times just don't care, which is kind of sad since a lot of the time the in ring work is done well and all they need is a good storyline....which they have a tendency to not produce.

  • @DUBtheTIGER
    @DUBtheTIGER 12 років тому

    Don't just blame creative. The talent is more than 50% of the problem. True, during the Michaels/Austin years, they had Russo/Cornette helping, but at the same time, if Stone Cold didn't like a storyline he was in, he'd say "No, we're doing it this way instead". And despite the negativity around him, if Triple H felt he was too low on the card, he'd make sure he got a bigger spot.
    These guys today don't have the heart anymore. It's like they don't even /want/ to be The Man. THAT'S what's wrong.
