    Good to know, I got fruit on the satsumas about the size of a 1/2 dollar on the trees I got from you. I will wait till after harvest then cut it back.

    Great video! Very informative. What are your thoughts on water sprouts? Should they be trimmed off or left on the tree?

    • @madisoncitrusnursery
      @madisoncitrusnursery  15 днів тому

      We think it can go both ways. If you catch them soon enough snip them off, if it would be beneficial for the shape of your tree them let them grow and become another straight trunk and they will fill out over the next couple years and then bloom / fruit. Its one of those things that can go either way, it just depends on what makes the most sense for your specific tree and its shape.

    nicce video, I am looking to buy a citrus tree in NJ just don't know which one

    • @madisoncitrusnursery
      @madisoncitrusnursery  4 місяці тому

      Thank you for the compliments. For the most part in NJ you are going to have to grow them in containers which opens you up to being able to grow almost anything youd like. I would start with growing something you really like to eat. If you cook or make cocktails, lemons and limes are great options. If you want to eat fresh out of hand and like sweet, kishu mandarins are great. The varieties on our main page are the ones we typically recommend for first citrus trees. madisoncitrusnursery.com

    How do you guys water all the seedlings and benches that have the tree pots?

    • @madisoncitrusnursery
      @madisoncitrusnursery  10 днів тому

      We hand water the tables, dragging hoses to water the pots and then any additional water captured by the plastic on the tables is then absorbed into the pots as well.

    Is there a preferred time of year to be pruning this way?

    • @madisoncitrusnursery

      This video was really designed to show how we recommend doing the initial pruning or topping of a new tree to encourage it to start branching out. Because of that, you can prune like this anytime you get your tree since you shouldnt be focused on fruit set yet. The caveat would be if you plan to put the tree in the ground, I wouldnt prune just before winter so you dont encourage new tender growth before cold weather.
