    Hi George, You and other Aussie gardeners have inspired me to start my own gardening channel, Titled ( introducing my fruit tree obsession). Would love some tips as I make more clips. Happy gardening.

    Thanks George for your information. Do you top off your custard apple when pruning?

    Great job George and really strengthens the trees. The only slight downside I can see is that the hard prune probably puts back flower production by a few weeks so that naturally puts your potential fruit production back a few weeks which drags you into that cooler Melbourne Autumn and Winter 😩

      Actually the idea behind this kind of spring pruning is to encourage early flowers for summer fruit rather autumn.

      @@RealLifeFruitopia haha well I hope it works, when I cut my guavas back after the winter dieback they take months to recover, probably due to our cooler climate 🙄

    Very informative video George. How does pitomba and nangapire go in Melbourne unprotected?

    • @RealLifeFruitopia
      @RealLifeFruitopia  Рік тому +1

      Neither did well, infact both died. Such species are best obtained semi advanced, as they are slow growers.

      Would pitangatuba be a better choice for cold tolerance even if slow growing?

    Hi George,
    How many times you prune custard apple trees each year.
    How many times yiu can harvest them.
    Can I prune branches that not produced flowers and fruits off this months.
    I can see your custard apple trees are already in the ground but still in pots. Tell me about this.
    How many fruits did you have for 10 years one.
    Have you hand pollination or natural.
    Nice garden home.
    Cheers,
    Happy Kiwi's

      All of my custard apple trees are inground, not in pots. The round green circles are plastic tree mounds to hold water, and these are not pots. Prune off any dead branches and any crossing through the centre. I have had over 50 fruits from the oldest tree. This year, it will have around 15 fruits. www.bunnings.com.au/greenwell-green-water-saving-plant-surrounds_p3320974

      @@RealLifeFruitopia Oh wow, I never know before about this Green well before. I should run to Bunning to get some.
      I have seen you removed branches while 2 atemoya hanging on them.
      I just thinking about removing the branches with no fruits while some branches already having fruits of plum size. Should I? Is it too late to prune.?
      I am in zone 10b- Akl
      Cheers,

    Hi George, could you please recommend a chreimoya or antemoya variery for Melbourne? I was leaning towards a cherimoya as it likes the cold (never tasted one though) but I love the taste of a custard apple (atemoya) so a bit confused

    • @RealLifeFruitopia
      @RealLifeFruitopia  Рік тому +2

      Get both! Custard apple are more cold sensitive, so it depends if your location gets light or hard frosts.

    I actually do this at the end of winter before spring when new leafs push.

      Like I said in the video, it depends where one is located.

      This is the southern hemosphere. Ducks fly north for winter and kangaroos eat your Advocados. Strange but true.

    Yep, it doesn't matter if they're the big ones, smaller ones, or yellow....they're all custard apples LOL I was checking my stone fruits earlier, and some of the branches shot up fast. Looks like I will be doing some summer pruning. I prefer my trees low so I can chuck a net over it.

      Thankfully, the birds leave my custard apples, white sapote and black sapote alone.
