Best decision we have ever made. We live on a beautiful farm in Batangas and can't spend our monthly pensions. If we had stayed in the states we would be broke by the 1st of the month and still working full time jobs. We harvest a fruit and or vegetable every day. It's beautiful here!
@@Lazy-A-L33O yeah, I'm headed to my Filipina's community in Northern Luzon! I retired when I was 62, now 71 and headed to the Philippines as soon as I renew my passport!
I have subscribed to many there but you are the best salesman for the Philippines yet!! One of the unique and best things you do is to promote a happy life without the need to be married to or otherwise attached. Freedom at its best (please don't tell my wife).
Great video, I’m already of retirement age and still waking up 6 days a week doing physical labor 10 hours a day, and I don’t want to retire living in section 8 housing eating once a day, I’ve worked to hard for over 50 years to end up like that, I’ve had my eye on the Philippines for over 2 years and one morning I will wake up and say I’m done and get a ticket and live my life out of a backpack over there, your channel shows me I can go from trying to survive to being able to eat 3 time a day on my time, Thank you
You sound exactly just like me and that work for me was very heavy labor building decorative stone walls. One bag of concrete was 100 pounds. One stone weighted 65 pounds and a small 14 pounds So every 3rd stone was 65, 37 and 14 up to 6' high. I was tearing myself up but I couldn't stop because my Social Security wouldn't pay the rent and utilities. I was having mini strokes the last 6 month starting to have trouble swallowing and picking up my feet when walking. Heat strokes as well that were making me feel like I was having hangovers. My diet sucked from the cheap fast food. I feel so much younger now. So much healthier. Very very low stress now. So when I sound grateful for being here that's because I am and there is more to the story besides health
@@Ex-Pensive_ExpatYou look so much younger too, as someone who has mer you it's reallt hard to believe you're almost 70!🤯 I guess all that hard labour paid off in some ways.
It’s a possibility that IS possible. If you’re not fancy and you’re willing to accept some different cultural norms, it can be done. I feel that a person needs to appreciate more than just the affordability, but you seem down-to-earth and decent. I suspect you’d do well
Darrell, I loved this video! I felt like it spoke directly to me. I too, am concerned about my monthly retirement and making it each month here. But, more than that, I am discouraged and tired of such bad attitudes and such negativity in America. The agression is off the hook! I want to go where people treat each other with respect and kindness. Where an individual can live an authentic life and enjoy the small things in life with gratitude. I am so enjoying learning all I can about the history and culture of the Phillipines. Next will be the planning of my vacation. Still looking for another person that wants to go that I can pal around with. I could ask a girlfriend or family member, but I would have to think on that as I don't want a nah-sayer with me. I want positivity in my life and encouragement, this is a big deal! Thank you so much for taking your time to post. I really don't think you actually get what a wonderful impact you are making on so many lives. ❤
I'm very thankful for my time in the Marines. Having traveled the world while I served in the military will make my transition to the Philippines more comfortable.
Retirement is now more difficult than it was in the past. I've been saving for a long time instead of investing, and right now I only have about $400K. considering all the inflation, i'm thinking of investing in stocks, i dont just have idea on market strategies.
At a point like this, when the pressure is already on you to retire, its best recommended you seek the services of an adviser, as this allows you make smarter investing decisions.
982 days and a wake up before I turn 62 and plan to be on my way. I've had the same realization(s) as you brother. the dream cannot be reached here (USA)at my pay grade, sadly. I've had the same reactionary experience as you've described in the vid. haters gonna hate. If I could muster a little more back up scratch, I would not wait. thank you for the continued inspiration, and reassurance.
I got to say I love your videos. I'm in construction renovation remodeling and I had to rental properties and I'm pondering selling. I have management companies take care of them and I make more money but if I sell them dividends are minimal. I know these are all the reasons why I'm dragging my feet. Lol anyway. Dude I don't know if he ever responded but I said that you look like that guy from Walk off the Earth beard guy. He passed but he was great guy. But anyway you look just like a hot beard sunglasses. He was such a cool dude. And walk up the Earth as a great gift and great talent. If you ever heard of them or you want to check them out, they are extremely talented people. But damn when I saw scrolling through all the research of the Philippines, I'm like damn that dude. Looks like beard guy from walk off the Earth so that's what made me click on your channel and I love it. This is probably one of my favorite channels. Just saying. I forgot what area and the Philippines you are but I'll do some research. Thanks and I law fixing stuff and tricking stuff out like renovating and remodeling. Just a little stuff that make things pop. You don't even have to spend a little. I spend a lot of money just the little things. Damn you got some really beautiful houses that you show but until I get my ass over there I don't know why the hell. I'm dragging my feet but your most recent video was freaking awesome. Kicking the ass for sure
I will check those guys out!! BTW if you remember. How far down the list was I when you were scrolling down?? Near the top or a long way down. What exactly was your search??
Glad you managed to take that big leap into your new chapter in life. Keep on living the dream Hope we get to run into each other again at the jeepney terminal (I was that guy that sat beside you that time). T'was nice conversing with you
Hi my friend, and thanks very much for giving your time again, it was another BRILLIANT video narrated and produced by you to PERFECTION. What you did was to show and explain how to set your mind into 'doing mode' rather than just 'dreaming mode' , by just booking your flight and treating it like a holiday but still researching all your options. Like yourself, I have watched many vloggers too, from Harold Baldr the Norwegian travel vlogger who may have been my first experience, to various Canadians in the Philiipines (three in total all vloggers...surprise surprise) an American or two, some in Thailand, some in Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Cambodia. All vloggers showed places, countries, food, costs in different ways, but you explain in particular, for people of a similar age, with a lower retirement fund that you can enjoy your retirement and travel around to find the right place to settle. Plus you encourage us, to find the courage (like you did!) to do it before it is too late......I am unsure If I will find the courage, but I am researching and not totally giving up on the idea. I don't even love where I live in England, like you did in San Diego. My life has been difficult/mundane (like most people) throughout, and I have had very few holidays and fun times due to finances, but I do realise there is more to life than just existing just not in England! So keep your vlogs going, there is still hope, plus I love your renovating ideas on a budget! Take care, Nikki.🐕🌴🌞💻
I like what you say about setting your sights a little lower. Yes, follow your dreams, but take into account Warren Buffet's "lower your expectations".
I have not retired in the Philippines but in an other country. I was told the same, to the point some even called my son. Stating that I was crazy. 2018 and God has been good to me better than I deserve. I keep moving and happy.
Thank you for the great video! Your simple lifestyle in the Philippines is my dream. I'm in my early 40s and still have time to retire, but I'm working to get some passive income and move to the Philippines as early as possible. Your videos motivate me. I'm subscribed to several popular expat channels about the Philippines, but your channel is the most useful for me and your lifestyle is what I want to achieve.
Thank you Ivan. I think you mentioned this before?? Look into remote working. There are a lot of digital nomads. The Philippines has made a particular visa just for them. Let me know if I can help you in any way Ivan. And thank you for the amazing compliment and it's always nice to see your name in the comments!!!
@Ex-Pensive_Expat Yes, remote working is my option. I still have some unfinished business in my country, but when everything is set and done I will visit the Philippines for an indefinite period and probably stay there
Darrell first love your channel. I left America for different reasons. I am blessed to be financially secure. BUT I was not happy living and working stressful job in America. A UA-camr Scotty (Regular Guy ) helped me to decide to retire. He also helped me to find the "courage" to leave my job and travel to the Philippines. I left America because I no longer like living in a country divided and going in the wrong direction of my beliefs. The Philippines may not have been the right choice for me to live forever but it sure helped me to open up my eyes to living outside of America. Maybe one day America will go back to being the country I love again. Till Then I will keep trying to find a country I am happy living in.
The sixties was a rough patch and hopefully this is also just a rough patch we're going through. I look at America as if family. You'll always love them and want the best, but don't like their actions at the moment and hope for a quick recovery
Just starting to explore other places to live a better life. A friend's wife was from Cebu-City and she talked fondly about the Philippines. Maybe my life would be better living there, because, living here isn't getting any better........... Weather is important and I know they get a lot of hurricanes and typhoons, so that's a huge concern for me. Great video for those of us living on the fence.
It was originally Tyler ans Alex from "Bigtime Bentley" and "Living Abroad" for me, my soul-mate passed on her birthday in 2021, i fell into a funk, lost, then discovered their channelsbon UA-cam, depressive insomnia and a Google TV, nuff said, was torn between Vietnam (was considering TEFL) and the Philippines....then your channel came up on my recommendations, finally!!! Somebody showing it like it is and can be for me, as im currently only 53, i have survivor benefits for the next6-7 years, then a brief pause till im full SS benefits capable. Was in the fence, but youve truly inspired me to muster the courage to do it, a couple 3 years to liquidate and downsize, as well as establish a meager/modest obline passive income, and im there Darrell(Daryl[?]) Id just like to funish by saying that seeing someone who walked lifes path much the same way i have, and really has my dad and uncles vibes, has truly unspired me to start anew non-pensive and ex-exspensively!!! Thank you brother.❤
Glad I stumbled upon your channel man. I've been working on getting there soon myself. Canada is no better than America my friend. A small house an hour from Toronto is almost a million bucks Orr 3k per month for rent You did good with the house and the fact you have freedom is even better. I tip my hat to and maybe we'll cross paths. Cheers
Like many others, I sold everything I owned and pulled the trigger to move here to be with my amazing wife and our three daughters. For, I can raise them here in the province for far less than in America. Our quality of life is by far the best I could ever ask for. Once the girls go on to college, I plan on getting my wife her spousal visa so if she chooses to live in the US for six months she can. But, I will remain on Maripipi where my heart and happiness resides.
Philippines is just one country, many others to explore. I’ve been and stayed in Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia. Try them all out! If you have an open mind and a sense of adventure!
Great suggestion Roy! I do plan to actually. Thats why in the video I said ""I wasn't even trying to get them to come to the Philippines"". Just to gain the courage to follow their dream adventure. I chose the Philippines for a few reasons The amount of people who speak English and long-term visas were the main reasons.
Another very nice video and great sharing of the "Philippine retirement. Do you have the courage??"... Full support as always! Good luck and best regards po/Ned 👍👏👍
Beautiful scenery, your videos are getting better and better. The open ended vacation idea is the same plan I came up with, stay as long as I’m enjoying myself. I still have to get through 1 or 2 more Canadian winters. Can’t want to check it out, until then I will continue to live vicariously through your videos as you did before me. Thanks 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😮
As always, it's a very good video and commentary. Since my last comment, I've been researching Northern Luzon as you suggested, and it looks very inviting. Especially when I checked the weather, the temperatures are very much to my liking. And the terrain makes me think of the smoky mountains of Tennessee and my home where I was born back in the Ozarks. I can't wait to see it in person, but I will treat it as a long-term vacation and take my time before making any decisions. Your advice about getting stressed out is very important and good. Myself I'm a very laid-back and easygoing person. I have the ability to blend in with the local population wherever I go. Which can be a chore, 6'4" 280 lbs, hahaha. (I also have a sense of humor, possibly a little strange at times) It's hereditary my 86 year old father is the same. Hahaha I don't try to change the people around me, but I do try to go with the flow. As long as it doesn't go against my moral compass. Can't wait until the next video, always looking forward to them.
Thats awesome RJ. It seems to me people in America are judged by their strength (not necessarily physical strength) . In the Philippines people are judged by their kindness. My best advice is just be kind..
You have the right approach and attitude. Word of advice, you have no medical coverage since you're not a citizen, and illness strikes at old age. Look at your options.
Thank you for sharing your story. It resonates with way more people than you might think! Your content in general is great. You strike a perfect balance between keeping it real and being inspirational. Even though the Philippines isn't really at the top of my list for retirement abroad locations, I think that much of what you post is useful anywhere.
Thank you for the kind words Brent. The Philippines wasn't my first choice to begin with and not even my second choice actually. I researched all over the world. Cost of living / English speaking / ease of Visa, were my top priorities. I try to inspire those who're not happy where they are and try to encourage the courage in them to find the American dream where ever that takes them. I found it here. I only speak to my actual experiences in my videos. So content about the Philippines is what I can offer. Thank you again my friend
Your a smart , courageous dude. My daily routine now is wake up 7am go fishing, climb coconut trees and monkey around all day instead of getting stuck in an office job back in the US counting the hours. Will support your channel good luck new sub here.
The thing is there are many people sitting on the fence who would be afraid to ""Move"". But visiting would be easy. So it just makes sense to approach it from that point
Making my 10th visit this coming oct-nov. Looking for my retirement destination, but after visiting there last May, I realized that I need to stay in a cooler location during the hot months. See you there someday.
I am looking into a place at the ocean and another in the mountains. Yes on my social security and nothing more. Try Baguio. The Ocean is at the bottom of the hill about 45 minutes away
@@piacash5216 I stayed in Tagaytay many times. Each to his own. My place in Baguio has an ocean view!! Not bad from a mile high. Lake Taal is also cool, but there is just a lot more going on in Baguio and much more tourist friendly in general
I've said it before and I'll say it again, fast becoming one of my favourite channels. Also it's absolutely glorious when "UA-camrs" get fed up with the B.S. In the comment and live their life proving everyone wrong. It's just jealousy and haters wishing they'd done something with their lives. Wish i was at retirement age or had a skill i could work remotely. I'd be there in a shot. Only thing that would bug me is giving up my possessions like record collection and books. Things that can't be replaced easily and too much aggravation to lump around if you're not settled properly. I guess it's the sacrifice you have to choose.
I understand that completely. I had a storage until for years. Both sentimental and valuable. My mistake was not allowing myself enough time to deal with everything properly
Hi 👋 Darrell. Thanks for a great video and with your story, encouraging guys like myself to have the "courage" and make the "leap decision" when that time comes, to go and retire in the Philippines. Take care my friend.
Good evening! I am enjoying your videos, and I would like to thank you for sharing your experiences in the Philippines. The full retirement age is changing to 75yrs old. Enjoy and stay safe. I used to work in Clarke Air Base at the American Red Cross back in 1985.
@Ex-Pensive_Expat I am in Virginia. I am an orphan now. My mom passed away last year. I was informed by my cousin that my niece took my mom to the lawyer and made my mom sign everything in her name. I just avoid arguments and conflicts. I realize that I am too old for that. I am originally from Dumaguete, but I feel in love with Pampanga. I would love to live in the Philippines since I can't afford an apartment in USA.
Lol...funny, most of those expat vloggers you mentioned, I rolled my eyes upon their views and never subscribed. I subscribed. to yours. Thanks again for another great vlog.
And thank you Norma!! And Thank you for subscribing!! The reason I am vlogging is because my experiences were not exactly like theirs. I do my videos to show the type of things and from my perspective that I didn't find on other channels. The type of things I wished I had seen before I got here. That's also why I never vlog about women or relationships. Everyone else already has that corner of UA-cam covered. Walking street is a 20 minute ride from here. Again I am not interested in that content. There are guys tripping over themselves out there on Walking Street doing videos for UA-cam so they don't need me.
Very inspirational. I have been thinking about this for quite a long time now. I will not be able to retire on SS in the US, and with recent unforseen events, i may have to cash out and make a bold move sooner rather than later. I've been working for 41 years, and I'm about at my limit. Would be so happy with a simple and peaceful life. Great work. Keep the videos coming!
I’m so looking forward to checking out the PI. I’ll be 59 in March. My official retirement date is August 1 I’ll have enough hours to retire in two more days but I told him I’d stay until August 1 then I’m going to liquidate down to bear minimum then go make up my mind where I want to stay if anywhere at all, I might end up back in my home in West Michigan. Who knows where end up but I’m going to go check it all out!!! I can’t wait!!!
Philippines is really an amazing country!! Thanks for sharing this video and warm welcome is always open to all who wanted to retire here.Have the courage!!!
Truly another great video. I recommend you to my friends that are looking for a place to retire because you’re a natural storyteller and the information you provide is excellent.
Yes, the blowback from doubters is insane. My bandmates bitch about me killing our band by my wanting to leave. Thing is, we all but shutdown in the summer as half the band members are snowbirds who leave FL for their own cooler climes from April to October. So, I'm sitting here over the summer waiting for them to return and restart up the band. All the while kicking myself for not flying away for my own dreams. Well, this video has convinced me to pull the plug and make it happen,. Beyond what they may think. Maybe I'll join a PH band and play my 70's rock on the islands. Thanks.
Except for moving to the Philippines your story is a common one. For most people, the American Dream of a comfortable retirement is just not obtainable anymore. I'm happy you found yours. I plan on moving there too. I can have a decent retirement in my country but in the Philippines I can have a much better standard of living after I retire. Thank you for your videos and showing guys like me what can be done! Hell, you have me wondering if I could have two places. One in the mountains and one on the beach. :)
Exactly. That too. The cheapest place I could find to park was 20 miles out in the country and that was $700 a month. That is my entire budget from here
I would absolutely appreciate it if you made a vlog/video documenting your process for visa renewals, this is an aspect that has created a grey-area for me as to what i can find/see about it in the Philippines, as most dealnwith/explain it for those of Filipino descent or rich folks investing 100s of 1000s of dollars in buisness ventures/investments. If ya would be so kind.
I can share my experience but I stay away from topics better discussed with a professional on topics where I have no experience. I wouldn't want to mislead someone even with good intentions
@Ex-Pensive_Expat understandable sir, was just looking for a real-life detail.of the process, bit I totally understand your apprehension of making such content. Thank you for the response.
Can you talk about the process of getting money from an American bank in the Philippines, like is it ATM's, can you get a local bank to transfer to etc? I have heard horror stories and it spooks me.
Agreed, I've seen many different vlogs from numerous people about this, and it seems to be 2 steps forward 9 steps back....as far as I have ascertained, having an account at a Filipino bank to do money transfers/ money wiring is the best route to avoid fees and surcharges, but I'm still kinda confused about the terms/limits....best bet would be to speak ta a trusted fiduciary that specializes in international finances.
For me, I opened a Wise bank account. I just transfer money from my main bank account about once a month to my Wise. I use an ATM at the bank and withdraw when needed. Been here since last year, no issues so far.
Another great HONEST video. I came here to see for myself and have met and befriended Darrell. His advice and experiences are legitimate. Will it wok for you? Maybe and maybe not. It's a different culture, different country and you need a different perspective but what I can say is it works for me and that this guys is being 100% forward and honest. Like and sub to help him grow. It may really help a lot of people searching for something better. I have found it and this channel helped me a LOT.
I agree with you. The only way to know is to give it a true honest try. Not a 30 day vacation. I was there for almost a year before I came to the conclusion that the Philippines was not for me. It did open my eyes up to living out of America. It is a big world and I hope to find the right place for me. I know America is not it now and neither is the Philippines. I am planning my to other countries countries to see if one of them maybe it.
Try to show some private hospitals in the Philippines. Heard pampanga has trusted hospitals like medical city. That’s why we decide to retire there too someday.
I will see what I can find but I only vlog about my actual experiences and I have only used on e hospital here.and that one is Angeles University Foundation . I can recommend them but it's the only one I know
What a great commentary, short and to the point. I am looking forward to my retirement but not quite there yet. I have a house in Cebu and love it every time i visit.
I think it would be too hot for me but I think California would also be too hot for me. Here in Croatia we have had unusually high temperatures for the last couple of weeks and it made me realise that I would not want to live anywhere warmer than here. Air conditioning is OK but I think if I had it I would tend to stay indoors too much.
I'm from San Diego. There are over 220,000 Filipinos living there. I knew many Filipino's who have lived there many years and plan to retire in the Philippines
You can find whatever you are looking for here. The city, the country, the beach, the mountains, plenty of expats , no expats. Travel or stay around your home. I took the beach with no expats route. I get to experience the real friendliness of the people here in this part of Bohol. Don't see the pollution and garbage I have seen elsewhere. Yes it can be hard at times not being able to communicate to people who speak English.Who understand noun's but not verb's. They are "Shy" they might not pronounce a word correctly. I'm from Mississippi and tell them every part of American talks differently and can have a hard time understanding what someone just said.
You make so much sense!! I live in NYC crime and rents are totally insane. I'm 64 years old, I'm going to do exactly what you said, going to do an exploratory vacation trip staying in Bgc and traveling out from there. I think that I will budget 1700 Dollars monthly in Bgc, staying in a hotel for a few weeks. What are your thoughts???
Open ended vacation is a good suggestion. I went there with the intention of being there for two months and I stayed for two years. I wish I had never left.
The American dream is only alive if you're sleeping. I feel the same way about what's going on here in the US. I will be coming after my dog passes. I guess being a former military man, change is something I've always looked forward too. I take it as a welcome challenge not something to be afraid of. My kids are all for me doing what makes me happy other than them, I could careless what people think or feel because most of them are just projecting their fears or anxiety on others. Cheers, John
Just came across your channel. Good concise style in delivering the info. I lived in Palawan for 5 years during the 90's and the last 20 odd years in Cambodia. Jurisdictional arbitrage where investment income from home country funds much cheaper living costs in SE Asia. However I do wonder if we're now approaching the peak of the sweet spot, where the gap in comparative living costs starts to close, and governments of our home countries make it more difficult to maintain bank accounts and investment portfolios as a non resident, and impose restrictions on government pensions paid to recipients living overseas. Furthermore, countries like Thailand that intend to tax foreign income of expats living there, including retirees..
I was a ranch cowboy , horseshoer , equine dentist , horse trainer , horse hauler etc....etc..... till somebody rear-ended me on my Harley at a red light, and my whole life came down crashing . I spent an entire summer in a trauma center getting put back together the best they could but it left me a crippled and on top of it ; I can't ride horses anymore because of it . Now ; all I have at 65 years of age is a 1040$ SS check to live on . I am forced to do little work like feeding 30 horses 7 month from May to Dec for abcentee owners and have done so to supplement my meager check . This is my 3rd season doing it . Do you think I could make it and be comfortable in the Philipines on that little bit of money . I love being out in the country as I was living in the sticks my entire life .I can't stand big cities and large crowds . I love the hot weather and live in Florida at this time . I moved to the states 45 years ago but would come to the Philippines on a Belgian passports . I never took the American citizenship yet but I would if it gave me an edge over my Belgian passport . The closer to the water the better , I love and still am able to snorkle and scubadive .
I am not sure about the Belgian passport and what ever agreement there is between this two countries. If you like country living then I am conformable you're making enough to live here comfortably in the same way that I do. I don't smoke or drink so you would need to take that into consideration. I have a video showing how I can live comfortably on $600 a month. I suggest watching that video and think on that
@Ex-Pensive_Expat I don't smoke anymore but I vape . As far as drinking goes ; a bottle of whiskey or tequila lasts me a long time . Might want to have a few beers now and then. Sometimes I go several weeks without drinking anything alcoholic at all . I like a bottle of wine with a good meal now and then . How expensive is beef ? I'm still on a cowboy beef diet.LOL . And I like making tacos. Fijitas and burritos and other Mexican food dishes but also love the kind of food you said you like . I don't care for salads but love fruits and avocados . How hard is it to bring your dogs to the Philippines ? If I come alone ; there will be 2 . If my girl comes with me. There would be 3 . We've been.together 30 years .but such a move might be a deal breaker for her . She has only a 900$ SS check , but it would be enough for her food and internet phone added expenses . Everything else I guess would be pretty much the same for 1 or 2 as far as rent and utilities goes !?
I have a project for you to look into... I think that the island life should be of interest to people that have boats parked at their own private dock with access to the sea preferably via river. That would be my dream location but, even the rent price for a skip at a marina is hard to find on UA-cam. Can you get us a few solutions to this problem?
I send money using remitly. I have HSBC which does not have ATM fees. I have transfer wise but its slower compared to Remitly and sometimes it gets cancelled.
Good video. The real challenge I see is: how does one occupy their time in the PI? Money is no issue for me (I have enough for six figures / yr in retirement income)… but I do not want to be a constant tourist. I spent over 10 years overseas, and traveling gets old.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I work 60+ hours a week now. I could stop now, but the plan is to retire in 3-4 years. I just wonder what people do in the PI when they are not travelling. I am a veteran, and I know there are several VFW’s… but what else? That seems to be the most common question among other like-minded individuals, looking at retiring overseas. Most of my hobbies (reading and gym primarily) will transfer, except for my classic cars and bikes, which I will sell off.
I'm looking to find and restore a vintage 4 seater jeepney as they were first built in the early 50's. This country is very social so interactions with friend happens here more ofter on average as far as I can tell. And you're more likely to make a lot of friends here faster than in the US. People ride bike long distance and motorcycles hiking camping sailing diving That should get ya going for starters
My plan was much like yours I still have 20' RV there storage now didn't think I was ready to move came for a 30 day visit over 4 months ago when I sell my home and get out of debt and put money in bank I'll be much better off here but right I have family of 5 here surviving on 1k month its not that bad we eat good stay home a lot but we take beach or mountain trip now and then its better than the life my girlfriend and her kids had before plus I can plan for the day it gets better
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat 30 minutes south of Cebu City Inayawan Its ok I can walk to market and 7-11 trike ride to 2 different Gasanos I rarely see another foriegner even at these malls I say that but these 2 not very big malls 1 is more like a grocery store but I'm treated well here my biggest complaint would be no yard front or back have nice little porch table and chairs its an old 4 bedroom house but AC in every room girlfriend has 3 kids and we still only use 2 bedrooms
Thank you for your videos, they truly are inspirational!! We have a place in Mindanao that we are going to live at one day, downsizing all liquidating everything here in Northern Ontario as fast as i can, the western dream of retirement is a nightmare unless you have a huge bank account, hopefully the day comes sooner rather than later to get on that plane and live there. who knows, maybe our paths will cross and we can sit down to a nice meal together, Cheers and all the best from Canada
I've subscribed from your friend who interviewed you on $600 dollars retiree in Philippines am following from UK soon relocating to motherland Kenya East Africa where am having a ranch for free camping for those wanting to do East Africa Safari.....
You absolutely misunderstood. Comparing rents between San Diego and Porac for example has nothing to do with being successful. It has to do with cost of living. Not sure what cost of living has to do with success
Best decision we have ever made. We live on a beautiful farm in Batangas and can't spend our monthly pensions. If we had stayed in the states we would be broke by the 1st of the month and still working full time jobs. We harvest a fruit and or vegetable every day. It's beautiful here!
Exactly. Work less enjoy, more. It's simply about the quality of life.
I look at it this way do I have the courage to retire in USA 😮
I have the courage, but not the financial ability. I could live but I would not do much traveling.
Thank you for noticing my friend!
Great video, I’m already of retirement age and still waking up 6 days a week doing physical labor 10 hours a day, and I don’t want to retire living in section 8 housing eating once a day, I’ve worked to hard for over 50 years to end up like that, I’ve had my eye on the Philippines for over 2 years and one morning I will wake up and say I’m done and get a ticket and live my life out of a backpack over there, your channel shows me I can go from trying to survive to being able to eat 3 time a day on my time,
Thank you
You sound exactly just like me and that work for me was very heavy labor building decorative stone walls.
@@Ex-Pensive_ExpatYou look so much younger too, as someone who has mer you it's reallt hard to believe you're almost 70!🤯
I guess all that hard labour paid off in some ways.
@@ShareTradingAdvice Thank you so much for the compliment. I'm actually in better health than I was the month before I left San Diego.
It’s a possibility that IS possible. If you’re not fancy and you’re willing to accept some different cultural norms, it can be done. I feel that a person needs to appreciate more than just the affordability, but you seem down-to-earth and decent. I suspect you’d do well
@@miahconnell23 thank you, I think I will do alright
Thank you young lady!! You always make my day
I'm very thankful for my time in the Marines.

Do you plan on retiring before 59?
That is what determines it for me. I switched to cash flowing assets because I wanted to retire early.
At a point like this, when the pressure is already on you to retire, its best recommended you seek the services of an adviser, as this allows you make smarter investing decisions.
Can you recommend any? I am in need of a Cfp to grow my retirement account.
Annette Marie Holt is the licensed adviser I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with to set up an appointment.

Oh hello my friend!! Yes it was nice meeting you too. The jeepney ride was too short lol. Leave me a message at my FB page: Ex-Pensive_Expat
I have a fun video coming with one of my subscribers from England. Be sure to watch that one
I like what you say about setting your sights a little lower. Yes, follow your dreams, but take into account Warren Buffet's "lower your expectations".
Yes
I still have some unfinished business in my country, but when everything is set and done I will visit the Philippines for an indefinite period and probably stay there
Let me know if I can help and let's meet when you get here
Congratulations on making the move and finding contentment.
Thank you Greg!
You are inspiring the courage in many to take the step we all want to. Great video as always.🙂

Completely understood my friend
Philippines is just one country, many others to explore. I’ve been and stayed in Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia. Try them all out! If you have an open mind and a sense of adventure!
Great suggestion Roy! I do plan to actually. Thats why in the video I said ""I wasn't even trying to get them to come to the Philippines"". Just to gain the courage to follow their dream adventure. I chose the Philippines for a few reasons The amount of people who speak English and long-term visas were the main reasons.
Doing just that. Riding my Motorcycle from Philippines to Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia.
Awesome. I'm even envious. I'm not a bike rider yet!!

(I also have a sense of humor, possibly a little strange at times)
It's hereditary my 86 year old father is the same. Hahaha
I don't try to change the people around me, but I do try to go with the flow.

Well said friend. Thanks for sharing

Such a great tip! Just go for a long vacation first and go on from there. A lot easier to think and deal with than a full time move.
great point on the vacation vs living here, thank you for being real on this subject.
The thing is there are many people sitting on the fence who would be afraid to ""Move"". But visiting would be easy. So it just makes sense to approach it from that point
To truly know a new place or country you got to come for 1 year, this way you can see the pros and negatives.
I agree. But also because people change influenced by the culture and that would change over a year
Making my 10th visit this coming oct-nov. Looking for my retirement destination, but after visiting there last May, I realized that I need to stay in a cooler location during the hot months.
See you there someday.

Love your videos. I think most of us are looking for that same thing that as we get closer to retirement. Looking forward to your next video.

Yes I will do that And thank you so much for the $10. Very much appreciated
I use remitly to send myself money for my US bank. You need to be here about 6 months before you can open a bank account
For me, I opened a Wise bank account. I just transfer money from my main bank account about once a month to my Wise. I use an ATM at the bank and withdraw when needed. Been here since last year, no issues so far.

Here in Croatia we have had unusually high temperatures for the last couple of weeks and it made me realise that I would not want to live anywhere warmer than here. Air conditioning is OK but I think if I had it I would tend to stay indoors too much.
Yes it gets like that here. I also have a small place in Baguio and there the average temperature is 68 degrees
My wife is Filipina, we've been married 40 years we may retire to PI next year
I'm from San Diego. There are over 220,000 Filipinos living there. I knew many Filipino's who have lived there many years and plan to retire in the Philippines
Thank you for shing this with us. i appreciate you
You are so welcome
Same with me. I tell their English is much better than my Filipino but I am trying
Great video, just started watching Great mate.🎉😊
Thank you!1
Say well spoken my friend......thanks
Thank you too
You make so much sense!!
Consider and airbnb. If you can have a kitchen it may save you some money
I hope to be there in a few months. I hope I can find a nice inexpensive place like the places you show in your videos. ✌️❤️🙏🙏🙏
Where are you landing when you come. Do you have a destination?
Open ended vacation is a good suggestion. I went there with the intention of being there for two months and I stayed for two years. I wish I had never left.
The good new is now you know. When / if you return you'll know your plan more completely
I am a new subscriber I truly find your channel inspiring. Thank you.
Thanks for subbing!
And Thank you for the kid words
The American dream is only alive if you're sleeping. I feel the same way about what's going on here in the US. I will be coming after my dog passes. I guess being a former military man, change is something I've always looked forward too. I take it as a welcome challenge not something to be afraid of. My kids are all for me doing what makes me happy other than them, I could careless what people think or feel because most of them are just projecting their fears or anxiety on others. Cheers, John
Sounds perfect. I came to believe that the never been here experts were spewing the fears they would have as if they were actually facts of life here
Just came across your channel.
Depends. Not from the US that I know of and it would be a ridiculous thing to do. The more inflation there the Mose sense it make to me to be here
Nice video. Appreciate the upbeat attitude and encouragement to others considering the options.
Thanks for watching!
always waiting for your video,s to enjoy watching and hear your stories
Thank you Michel!!
It's about $4 a pound
I have a project for you to look into...
I think that the island life should be of interest to people that have boats parked at their own private dock with access to the sea preferably via river. That would be my dream location but, even the rent price for a skip at a marina is hard to find on UA-cam. Can you get us a few solutions to this problem?
There is a marina in Subic Bay Philippines. My guess is there are more than a few expats there
I watch because of the interesting sunglasses you wear 😅 just kidding good content !
Thank you Nalds!! Better to look at than the bags under my eyes Haha..
I'm 2yrs 4months away from the check and when I look at the news I believe I am going to get the "sorry we are out of stock" .
It came as a shocker to me. Who could have guessed what has happened over the last few years.
I send money using remitly. I have HSBC which does not have ATM fees. I have transfer wise but its slower compared to Remitly and sometimes it gets cancelled.
Good to know. Thank you for sharing!!!
Good video. The real challenge I see is: how does one occupy their time in the PI? Money is no issue for me (I have enough for six figures / yr in retirement income)… but I do not want to be a constant tourist. I spent over 10 years overseas, and traveling gets old.
I'm not sure how to answer that. What do you now where you are?
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat good points, thanks.
Thank for your comments my friend
My plan was much like yours I still have 20' RV there storage now didn't think I was ready to move came for a 30 day visit over 4 months ago when I sell my home and get out of debt and put money in bank I'll be much better off here but right I have family of 5 here surviving on 1k month its not that bad we eat good stay home a lot but we take beach or mountain trip now and then its better than the life my girlfriend and her kids had before plus I can plan for the day it gets better
Sound perfect Jerry. what area are you in my friend
@@jerrystanley6820 Jerry! It sounds great!!! I'm anxious to meet you and your family when I am around the area if that's good with you
Thank you Darrel, your videos are inspiring !
I appreciate that! Nice to see you again Harry!
That's awesome. I would love to meet up for a good meal!! Where in Mindanao? I'm hoping to tour through there later in the year
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat our land is in Claveria, in a barangay called Rizal. Bukidnon is such a beautiful place to live, cant wait to fulfill that dream!!
Very nice. I want to visit that area and maybe video for the channel. I also do videos for people to see and experience it visually
God bless you brother
Thank you Robert
I've subscribed from your friend who interviewed you on $600 dollars retiree in Philippines am following from UK soon relocating to motherland Kenya East Africa where am having a ranch for free camping for those wanting to do East Africa Safari.....
Wow! That sounds awesome!! I'm excited for you. Maybe do some videos and share you experiences
❤
Comparing Porac to San Diego. Oh my. I am speechless. I guess if you were unsuccessful in SD then I understand.
You absolutely misunderstood. Comparing rents between San Diego and Porac for example has nothing to do with being successful. It has to do with cost of living. Not sure what cost of living has to do with success
