So is Qix better on the gameboy than NES? I remember in like 1993 or 1994 there was a two pack of Qix and Solar striker where the cardboard setup was weird (like think cheap) where it was a discounted box by Nintendo that had the games in the plaatic dust protectors and I think it still had the instruction boolets. Think like two cardboard bowls (angular bowls) and plastic used to wrap the covers of both bowls. Was like 40 cad (regular price for a top tier gameboy title). This might seem blasphemous, but I almost prefer Power Blazer. If you haven't tried it check it out. It's the famicom "version", and it was changed more for it's US release than just about any game I can think of. Both are really awesome games, though. The art style on Blazer is way more Mega Man-esque, but the awesome music is still there!

Awesome video as always, John! I have personally been looking forward to your Taito video for quite some time and it didn't disappoint at all. I agree with you wholeheartedly on giving Bubble Bobble an S (a real sentimental favorite of mine...and a wonderful 2-player co-op game) and it was great to see some of Taito's lesser known games score well. Kickmaster is *amazing* and I loved how you called it one of those "where have you been my whole life" games! :) I too rented the Flintstones and Jetsons games from our local Marsh store and I loved them all. The only beef I have with you is giving Power Blade a "B." Not to nitpick (these are of course your opinions after all) but how are Kiwi Kraze and Toki better than Power Blade? I had never even heard of the majority of these. I never saw them in stores or even mentioned in Nintendo Power. It makes me wonder how they sold at all.
Even though I often disagree with the verdicts, I love the ranking videos, and I have also enjoyed some of the streamers you have recommended! I know you ranked the black box games, but when are you going to do a video for the greatest publisher of all time, Nintendo? I'm curious to see which games DON'T get the S!
I bought demon sword when I was a kid never playing it before and bought it purely for the box art. I wasn’t too impressed with the game but I beat and and forced myself to beat it since I spent all my money on the time for it. What should have been my 1st clue it wasn’t that great was that it was on sale for 24.99 or something like that and every other game in the store except for the older black box games where all $50. Oh well lesson learned and the game did grow on me. But I think a D is very appropriate for this game.
it sucks because if you don't choose the right ninja skills he's impossible. after getting this footage I played through it again for the first time in probably 15 years. Glad I had the right stuff set. I remembered a few for the final boss but figured it out again.
I have to say this: I was a kid who grew up with BOTH Demon Sword and Dungeon Magic. Those games are terrible and deserve the D rank but I own both complete in box because...I had them as a kid and I don't think anyone else would want to carry the torch for those games.

Would there have been massive slowdown or something along those lines? That's the only argument that makes any sense because the two-player co-op is what made the original game an "S" in my opinion. That being said, I still loved Bubble Bobble Part 2 (absolutely deserves an "A"). But man oh man...that game could have been an "S" with a juicy co-op mode (and maybe another 10-20 levels).
Demon Sword is the cut down conversion of the Famicom game Fudō Myōō Den (transl.: The Legend of Acala), which has identical gameplay, but just feels more fleshed out. I'd rate The Legend of Acala as a B.
You didn’t mention that you can switch between fred and Barney on dino peak but limited to fred on the first one. I love your videos though and I know you can’t go into detail on every single game.
What sucks with Bubble Bobble 2, which I think should make it rank lower, is that you can't play 2 player on it. When the original one is one of the best 2 player games on the system, if not of all time, that should lower it to B or C in my opinion.

Weirdly, Renegade was made by Technos, and distributed by Taito in the states, so Double Dragon was actually its spiritual successor, while the Kunio-kun series continued down its own path and we eventually got another of the sequels, "River City Ransom" down the line on the NES.

I saw what time you missed lol
Grew up with all these.
I hope that when you're done this wonderful list, you do one vid of all the S rankings across all of the developers. I'd love to hear you talk about the best of the best
It would be awesome! I'm trying to build a library of games in the future, it would be a great lead
Great idea! 👍
great minds think alike! I was planning on doing exactly that.
@algol29 i got myself an ANBERNIC retro portable console, and I'm planning on triming most consoles' libraries to the essentials + some hidden gems
Would even do one with A titles as well! Just a list of all the A titles without ranking them from best to worst.
Weirdly, Renegade was made by Technos, and distributed by Taito in the states, so Double Dragon was actually its spiritual successor, while the Kunio-kun series continued down its own path and we eventually got another of the sequels, "River City Ransom" down the line on the NES.
Also made some great arcade wrestling games

It's the Bret Hart gang.
Man when I was a kid I remember rummaging thought the Wolworth $20 NES bargain bin and picking up Wrath of the Black Manta , Phantom Fighter, and werewolf the last Warrior. Dam that was a fun weekend.
Like number 57 is from me man! Keep up the awesome content
You didn't mention the armor power-ups in Power Blade 2 - that's the "something more" you were looking for. Taito did make some good stuff.
The music as well!! So good
How awesome were bother the power blade games though?? True gems
