Our "exit strategy" is to never, ever sell our home and property we've worked so hard for. We both agree we will never full time RV. Living in a camper has always seemed counterproductive to us. Our trips have become longer and more frequent but home is always there waiting for us. Its not only our house, barn, workshop, and land. Its our family, friends and neighbors we love dearly. Its 'home" and nothing can replace that for us.
That sounds perfect Scott. Full time RVing isn't for everyone and it sounds like you've got a plan. Hope you enjoy your weekend and thanks for coming along.
It's great that you are able to do that. Some of us aren't that lucky. We're now living in our 25yr. old motorhome after our homeowner insurance doubled and our property taxes went up 1,000%, taxing us right out of our home. We've made the best of it though, as we boondock most of the time so have kept our expenses to a minimum, finally riding ourselves of property taxes. We've found some reasonable campgrounds around the country through our travels and when we start slowing down, we'll just moving twice a year. The warm places we winter over are oppressively hot in the summer and the places we like in the summer will bury you under a ton of snow in the winter. When it comes time to finally hang up the keys, we'll split the difference and settle down in some place in-between - possibly NC where our son lives. We're in an RV park there now that is only charging us $100 a month for a no hook-up site. This suits us well now because we have over 5,000 watts of solar and a huge battery bank, so we don't need to hook up to a power pedestal anymore, though about every 3 weeks we still need to drive 60 yards to the dump station. Once this becomes burdensome, we will rent a $500/mo. site with full hookups (which is far less than we paid in just property taxes and homeowner's insurance on our S&B) and stay there till God calls us home.
Excellent video. Fulltiming since 2015 and spot on it is not for everyone but for those of us who it works...it is a FANTASTIC way to live especially DEBT free.
Happy Birthday to everyone in your family that celebrated recent birthdays. God has blessed me with another year and I joined the 60s club this year. We are figuring out our exit strategy that will definitely include a small home or apartment. I for sure know that we will be in easy driving distance to our family. New haircut Kellie?
The ending...I needed this! This was a great video. Financial planning is a must. Save as much as you can, but "preserve" your savings. Once you have enough, it is about preserving, with some growth. Great Video! Keeping the sticks and bricks, and the financial burden, and physical repairs and upkeep, is the major hurdle for us. The smart move is to sell the house. Emotional attachment is real! Change is hard.
We're so glad it got you thinking. Everyone is different and you are correct...change IS hard. We trust in the Lord and His plan. We've followed His plan for us and haven't regretted one day. We hope you can find the path that works for you. Hope to see you on the road someday...
Hello friends. Happy Birthday Kellie. Thanks for the advice. If or when you get to the Fingerlakes get in touch with us. We’re right there. Stay safe out there.
Loads of great advice! It’s always wise to have a feasible alternate plan, no matter what we do. Life changes quickly sometimes, and not always the way we want or are thinking it should, so, definitely a great idea. Glad you’re there for your pops big birthday! So wonderful! (Haircut looks great Kellie!👍🏼) Safe travels you guys!❤️~W
We parked the fifth wheel in an RV park and sold the truck. That was our exit plan from the road. We still travel but without the rig. Just motels and hotels now. It is very inexpensive when you pay by the year. Comes to less than $400 a month for the space, water, sewer and internet.
Great ideas and forsite...we have been thinking about it non stop since we got this idea Im liking your idea of 2 separate locations. We like the barndo idea..we have a house now and will keep it (where in Ontario & dont have any choice) Thanks for bringing this up, I think like you....people need to think & plan Safe travels 😊
We're glad it got you thinking Rob. Everyone will have a different exit strategy...it would be boring if we were all alike! We just wanted everyone to start thinking if they haven't already and it sounds like you've got a pretty good plan.
What wonderful tips you both gave. Thank you both. May God give us the right path to be on for our future. Have fun on the road as long you two can. I enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.❤🤗👍
We are about 3 years from retirement and have planning for this for about 5 years. We certainly won't be on your scale of things but we have what will work for us and will be debt free. We live in Montana currently so we're used to the cold but will enjoy traveling to nicer areas during the winter. Fortunately for us our home is paid off so we will always have our home base. Love your videos and advise!
Good points! As someone who traveled around our beautiful country for work, so many wonderful places to live. We are heading up close to Spokane next week to take our amazing niece back to WSU in Pullman from Vancouver, WA! She will be a sophomore. Her sister is in her final year of respiratory therapy at Boise State! We don't have kids but we have helped their mom we are proud aunt and uncle!
This is, IMHO, your best video. Hopefully many people will actually here your "Debt Free" discussion. You can wealth faster when your debt free. You win NOT the banks/credit unions. Excellent video.
Such a good video. Hopefully people take your insight and knowledge and run with it! Also, happy birthday to everyone! We hope your father’s birthday was especially amazing at 91.
Always good advice to save for the future. I think Covid proved its important to have some type of home base. Whether its a sticks and bricks or just a pad on a lot, when everything closes you still can go home.
Hi guys!! Great advice. We did very similar to you when we sold our 2800 sq ft home. We've been full timing since May 2017. It was VERY hard to down size at first, but towards the end I felt the same, get rid of it. 😂 We are blessed to have a home base with one of our daughter's. I have a 10x20 craft shed with a huge loft to store what we kept. Hubby also has a shed for all his tools and a place to do his wood working. When it's time for us to quit traveling, our plan is for a tiny home or single wide modular set up where we park our 5th wheel. Praying we have more time to explore our beautiful country!! Thanks for being here each week, and I hope you enjoyed family time. 💜
That's awesome Carol! It sounds like you guys have a great plan...and it makes today much easier when we don't have to worry about tomorrow. Hope we can cross paths at some point!
If you do make it up to the Finger Lakes region let us know! We live just north of Canandaigua Lake. We love watching you guys and would love to catch up!
It just seemed that we were just telling you guys “ it’s still cold here “ and now you’re on your way out and traveling. Travel safe and we will give you your next weather update on your next 2025 trip to Montana . We are in the mission valley.
Hi Jim and Kellie! Great video! I too am letting God decide what my goals are. Where he wants me to be. I’ll probably later on get an Rv and travel. There states that I have nit seen yet that I do want to see. But wow! 7 years almost. I’ve been watching you both as long as you been on UA-cam. It went by fast. I love watching you both too! Always will. We’ll keep in touch even when you aren’t traveling. One day you come back my way I’ll take you to my church. Hope drs visits were good and birthdays went well. Have a great time with your family. Love you and have a great weekend and week. Love you! ❤❤🤗😘
Where would you look for property? We are retired and own a home and 5 rentals. Don't know where to even look. So far we have only gone to Canada to family farm and Kentucky, Holmes county Ohio…only gone for 7 weeks. We want to do what God wants. We have always loved camping. Your right its not as bad out there as Media makes it! We are set for travel. We are retired one year
Not really...the developer is allowed to approve up to 10% of the lot owners to stay over a winter. If there are more than 10% interested, he randomly selects owners that haven't had the chance to stay in pervious years.
Question. What about when there’s only one of you left or your in your late 80s , would you want to be in two places? As older people we feel that those years need to be near family even if it is cold. What about one of you ends up in a care home. Don’t want to be a downer but do you think a later exist strategy might change because of these points? Great video guys and I’m sure you’ve got a lot of people thinking.
Absolutely! Things are always changing and we will adjust - but, we've got our money in an asset that will hopefully appreciate, so we can enjoy what we have and make adjustments down the road.
Lots of good thinking/talking points in this video, all of which I agree with until the very end where you kinda bash "the media". "Media" is a very broad term that covers a lot of ground. You Tube is a form of media (which you obviously contribute to). All social websites are a form of media. All TV channels are a form of media. Everything printed on paper w/ink and publicly distributed (books, newspapers, magazines, etc) is a form of media. All films distributed publicly in either theaters or otherwise is a form of media. Any and all artwork (including songs/music), regardless of method or genre, is a form of media. The entirety of the internet is a form of media. The thing is, all folks can pick and choose which form of media to view. We can also choose what, of all of the massive amounts of information (or speculation or fiction), we take in from the media we choose to view, to believe (or not believe). Not all media is either "good" or "bad" (highly subjective terms, at best). It's just out there, for us to view or not, as we choose. Also, each and every one of us approaches media and what we choose to view among the millions of media choices facing us from a point of personal bias, to some degree or another, just as the media itself is usually biased to one degree or another, depending on it's origin. So, it's not the fault of any of the "media" available to the people in this world if some folks choose to believe media that forecasts gloom and doom and impending Armageddon. There are alternative points of view, more positive and hopeful, available for anyone to find, should they wish to. Yes, media of ALL forms has the power to exercise tremendous influence (you yourselves are influencers as UA-cam creators), but ultimately each individual is responsible for deciding which point of view to embrace and, hopefully, to explore ALL the many points of view media offers. If you find the media you choose to embrace is not spreading a positive message about the world, in a way that doesn't match with your world view, so much so that you caution your viewers about "media" in general, maybe it's time for you to explore a new media source that does match your world view.
Well....we didn't see this until this morning. We stayed at PF RV Resort a couple of times. It was okay, but a little tight for us. As far as eating establishments, we haven't lived there in over 6 years, so we're not sure what is there anymore. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Hi Guys, enjoy your videos, my wife also loved our short visit with ya in early July, But Jim where did you get the T- shirt, I need one !! lol
LOL...the shirt was a Father's Day gift from our daughter, so we're not sure where she found it, but it has become my favorite!
We thought about Shyrock, until we discovered they do not allow year round stays, when they close up. Wondering if this has changed?
Not really...the developer is allowed to approve up to 10% of the lot owners to stay over a winter. If there are more than 10% interested, he randomly selects owners that haven't had the chance to stay in pervious years.
