When you cut off the excess denim, you can make a ruffle and reattach it. And if you used skinny jeans, you could cut a triangle on each side and sew triangles from either the extra denim from the legs or from a cotton fabric.
I am so tempted to try this. But I have no machine and never finish my diy crafts
Ruth Kaela you can still do this by hand sewing it :) i made abt 3 all in just 2 hours. Its actually not that hard

Fantastic job! I’m a designer and I learnt something!
As an FYI, your sewing machine has what’s called a Stretch Stitch. It’s normally the second or third stitch on your machine after the straight and zigzag stitch. The pic shows 3 triple straight stitches. Use this to sew all you seams to prevent them popping, as this stitch will ‘give’ with your fabric.

This video is over two years old and I’ve since then discovered the triple stretch stitch which I’ve been using a lot lately 🥰❤️

I just tried this followed your tutorial!😊 I used some walmart skinny Jeggings i hated because they were low rise, you were right about the lack of work fabric when using skinny jeans, but i did a cross front stitch and left a slit open for more room and since the slit would almost expose my crotch area i used a cut leg from the jeans to cover it and it looks pretty darn cool 😎 now to actually wear it and hope it don't tear lol 😝 😘thank u!
I’m so happy you made it work haha, with skinny jeans it’s pretty hard to do this method. I’m sure adding in some fabric helped loads.

I have a pair of camo jeans with pockets on the outer thigh that I LOVE, but they don’t fit right anymore and I didn’t want to let them go. This is an AWESOME tutorial! I’m on the short side anyway, so I should have plenty of fabric to customize the size to fit better as a skirt 😊

Very cute skirt. Even though I'm I'm an older lady I love the frayed bottom. I love short skirts in the summer. If you have pretty legs, why hide them. 🌻
