  • As I mentioned in the video, I'm not including the name of the school that messed up my hair out of respect to a few employees there who are truly wonderful people and stood up to the owner for me- not an easy thing to do. BUT I do want to give you the information of the stylist who performed the miracle of fixing my hair. She is fantastic! Her name is Kelly with KStorms Hair Design. pages/Kstorm...

    I can't believe people are actually defending the beauty school. First off, it was an instructor doing it, not a student aka someone who is qualified and has experience with hair. Secondly, it doesn't matter who was doing it, if they fucked up they *fucked up*. I would never lie to a stylist and say I love it if it looks like garbage; you are not helping them AT ALL by lying(even though they should know it looks bad). They might be embarrassed, but they should own up to their mistake and not lie to you either. It's a SCHOOL, where you're suppose to admit and learn from your mistakes, not cover them up. She absolutely deserved a refund; they didn't give her what she wanted *at all*. It doesn't matter if she got it done cheaper, they didn't giver her what she ask for.
    btw, great video. Obviously i'm sorry for how you were treated, but damn if it didn't make a really entertaining story.

    My cousin works at a barbershop which is next to a barber school where they charge $10/haircut and they really mess up some of the people's hair. So my cousin's shop created a slogan that states, "We fix $10 haircuts". Lol

      MsOsabear that's kinda mean. They're a school, they're learning. People aren't going in there thinking they're gonna get the best haircut of their life, they know they're students. If it were an actual hair salon next door giving messed up cuts for $10 then that's a different story.

    I can't believe how many morons are sitting here saying it's her fault when A it was an INSTRUCTOR NOT A STUDENT and B THE INSTRUCTOR SAID THAT SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO DO IT. All these "you get what you pay for" comments are so idiotic. If the instructor knew that she had no idea what she was doing she should've TOLD her instead of reassuring her that she can make her hair look the way she wants it to. So it's not her fault and even if it was, the owner should still be able to keep his calm and his attitude.

    Nope, I hate it when hairdressers group around and say, "It looks greeeeat!" when it obviously doesn't. I feel it's a blatant use of peer pressure, and makes it that much harder for you to say to a group of them, "You did a bad job. Fix it".

    i never comment on videos but i'm deeply disturbed by the amount of people acting like this experience is acceptable. this is 100% NOT acceptable and honestly complete bullshit! i'm in beauty school and we do ombres all the time. i've seen a few bad ones but what she had was horrifying! if that happened to a client in our school an instructor would immediately tell the student how to fix it. if the client still wasn't happy with the correction their service would be free and they'd be invited back for more correction at 50% off the price after their hair has healed from any damage. i've never seen nor heard ANYBODY talk to a client like that. if we talked to a client like that we would be expelled. if an instructor talked to a client like that the owner would fire them on the spot. we all bend over backwards for clients - this woman was abused. in school they teach us to respect our clients. just because it's a school doesn't mean you should be happy with whatever you get. mistakes are often made but you have to mention them so we get better.

    I'm a professional hairstylist of over 7 years. I have a ton of experience with color and I am also my own boss. I run a hair salon. In this situation I see it from a few points of view.. First of all she went to a school. While you expect to walk out with nice looking hair, a majority of the time that's not the case. They are students and they are learning, so typically mistakes are made. The fact is, they aren't professionals and you're aware of that going into it. However, being the owner of this beauty school, he shouldn't have ever let you leave looking that way. He should have taken the time to figure out how to make it right no matter what it took. Even if he has to do it himself. The way the situation was handled was not professional at all. Owning a business means being professional. Im so sorry this happened to you.. But if you want your hair done correctly.. You HAVE to go to a professional. It's costly, but at least you know you'll be getting what you ask for. You get what you pay for.

      +IDon'tReallyKnowHowIGotHere, she got her hair done by the instructor the second time she went in. The first time was by a student. And if I'm completely frank, instructors at beauty schools are there because they are only making money in the industry doing hair so they choose to teach students how to pass the state board exam. Passing the state board exam honestly has nothing to do with the fine details and experience required to perform a good color service. I couldn't listen to my instructors in cosmetology school because 9 times out of 10 they lead me in the wrong direction. Doing hair is an art that you either have the talent for, or don't. Somethings can be learned and picked up, but being a good color artist is all in the hands.

    Ombre is not taught in beauty school that is an advanced technique to be performed by a stylist with a minimum of 4 years experience. Teachers in beauty school teach the basics required to pass the state boards test which allows them to assist a stylist for the next two years and take additional classes. Beauty schools typically use cheap products. Go there for a basic haircut or trim, retouch color, full color or blow out.

    • @patronsaintoffashion2722
      @patronsaintoffashion2722 9 років тому +1

      around here people pass the board and then are stylists... they don't assist a stylist.

      Patron Saint of Fashion In LA, students who pass the state board and want to work in a high end luxury salon start as assists. A lot of chains like Supercuts, Sports Clips and some blow dry bars will take you right out of school and straight to the floor.

      I'm sorry but this comment is completely untrue. They do teach how to ombré, balayage, and color melting in beauty school. I myself was taught how, and is 10x better than the job this instructor did on her. If it's a cheap school then you will get the basics of hair. So don't speak for everyone and say all you learn is basics. Thank you.

    Listening to you tell this story makes me mad... If ANYBODY ever talked to me like that, I would be flipping out! They messed up your hair, they obviously should teach their students the right technique of ombre. Ombre fades, not a blunt line of dark to light?! The lady who fixed your hair is a heaven sent & was so sweet & made your hair look beautiful & like the hair in the picture. They obviously don't know anything about doing hair & being respectful towards anybody. Hopefully their school shuts down.

    I want to say that I respect you so much for going back and attempting to salvage the situation. EXACTLY the same thing happened to my hair. I had had ombre hair for about 9 months and my salon unfortunately closed down. I had not had it re-done since the first time it was ombred, so I was letting it grow out. I started getting my hair cut by my friend who was training at the local college, since my salon had closed down; she cut my hair nicely, so I had always assumed the training at the college was adequate, but I still approached with caution. A few months down the line when my ombre was nearly grown out, that same friend asked me if I would be her hair-model for an assessment, for which she was required to lighten the hair as a colouring process. It was a few weeks before the assessment and I thought I had to go to work on the day she proposed, so said I wasn't sure. She ended up finding someone else as a guarantee that she would have a model available.
    Closer to the assessment day, a couple of days before, she asked me if I would be able to sit for a friend. I was unsure, being that I didn't know the person - but my friend assured me she would have had the same training, so I agreed to it, as a favour, despite the fact that my ombre had near enough grown out...
    The girl who did my hair had been training for 3 years, but the result was AWFUL. There was no graduated fade between my natural colour and the bleached tones, just a very stark line. I had recommended the back-combing technique my old stylist had used when first ombre-ing my 'virgin hair' but she did not oblige. It was quite literally dark brown meeting bright blonde. Awful. Her tutor attempted to fix it, but made it worse, creating a brassy orange colour between my natural brown and the now white-blonde. They attempted to fix it again, damaging it further. In total they bleached my hair three times that day.
    I ended up paying, as I was so mortified, luckily it was only £10. I wish I had said something, but I was in shock and had to attend a meeting that day (which they had made me late for given the time spent attempting to rescue my hair!) I had to attend a music festival that weekend and couldn't get it repaired by my new stylist until a week later. Safe to say trying to hide my rectify my destroyed hair that weekend required some creative styling.
    Moral: be cautious and don't tolerate slack service even if it is a favour. Most importantly, don't pay if you're not satisfied and stand-up for yourself if it's not right. That's something I wish I had done.

    I dont mean to sound rude or anything, but just because they are teachers, doesnt mean they dont have real life experience in salons and/or arent actually working in salons in their spare time. My cosmetology teacher I currently have is amazing, knows completely what she is doing, and has 50+ years of working in salons because she started when she was 16 and STILL does hair cuts/dye jobs and styling on the side when she has the time too, which is actually quite often. AND has owned her own salons. Just because they are teaching or are teachers does not mean they arent working in a salo part time.
    The teachers at most(not all sadly some beauty schools hire people who have no actual experience in salons) beauty schools have to have atleast 10 yrs of experience in salons.
    I have no idea where you went. But that place sounds horrible.

    • @Malinkvitblik
      @Malinkvitblik 10 років тому +6

      In Norway you need 5 years of hairdressing experience before you can teach hairdressing. Some teachers still do hair part time, but some only do teaching for many years, and you only teach basic stuff to students, so other techniques will most likely be forgotten. You're not going to be a good hairdresser forever if you stop at 5 years and never do hair again.

Yes, it's a school, but still. They are supposed to learn to be professional. They are going to be hairdressers one day. If they make mistakes, they have to stand up for it. The reason hair schools are cheap is because the students are learning - you're taking a gamble by going - when I was in hairschool I was sent out onto the floor to start cutting and colouring hair 6 weeks into my training - that's not a lot of time to learn everything - we are basically experimenting on your hair and by agreeing to get your hair done in a school for cheap, you are agreeing to let a student practice on you. The teacher should have known better that this wasn't good - but he obviously knew it wasn't and felt bad but didn't know how to show it and his ego got out of order. But It was also the gamble and risk you were taking by going to a school so you can't expect experienced stylist treatments from a school.

    • @beth16440
      @beth16440 9 років тому +8

      Yes, it's a gamble to get your hair done at a hair school. But a big part of learning is rectifying your mistakes and learning from it, which they didn't do for her. She was unhappy with the results and they ignored her and sent her home without even trying to fix it. The worst part is that the students are monitored by teachers who should have known better.

    People are completely missing the point here. Granted this was a salon school but the end result was clearly amateur and instead of owning up to it and fix it, the customer was made to be a fool. What are they teaching the students? That if they stuff up just lie and cover it up? This business lacks integrity. All this owner is teaching his students is how to do hair badly and rip people off.

      Alexandra Zeres you're right there is no excuse for a s***** job. it doesn't matter how much you paid or didn't pay it came out awful and they should have respected you for coming back and being honest. I think I would have really cried if I saw my hair turned out the way it did by the teacher-student. and the a****** that owns the salon or school should never have been that awful and mean. the owner of the school really deserve to be smacked. and it took a lot of nerve for him to ask you to leave like you had done something wrong when clearly it was them that did the wrong thing. I'm so glad that you were able to get to a stylist to fix everything. your hair looks beautiful and you are a beautiful soul I can tell by your eyes. I guess the lesson is check it out before you go 2 any type of school or salon to have them do your hair. I applaud you for standing up for yourself I can't believe anyone would criticize you for your behavior and I think you should disregard the negative comments because there was nothing wrong with you or what you did. Kinda freaked out by going to any hair salon now okay. Your hair is beautiful! But the job that beauty school did was TERRIBLE. If Guy Tang saw that, he would probably slap that girl and the owner with his brush. I love Guy Tang's work. I have never seen it turn out bad. It's always gorgeous, his attitude and personality is beyond the roof and he 100% knows what the heck he is doing regardless of if it's a color experiment or getting a specific look for a client. I am sorry to hear about your experience and I hope that the beauty school really ups their game and correct whatever the heck they are doing because girl that ain't ombre. I would be terrified to even let them trim my hair.

      I said it because Guy Tang does ombre. It's his thing. She wanted ombre but that's obviously not what she got. I said it because Guy Tang was just the first amazing hair stylist out there that came to thought. It's relevant because stylists like him and the hundreds out there set an example for others out there. Everyone was taught differently and has their own style of doing things.

    Been in the hair business for over 33 years and I can say this....Going to a beauty school to get your hair colored in a technique that requires serious advanced training is like asking a kid in driving school to win the Daytona 500. In this particular case it was an "instructor." Ok, then it's like asking the kid's teacher to run the race. Cheers to live and learn. :)

      rachel osborne Lol People don't understand there is a huge difference between a school and a salon. I'm sensitive about my hair and I would never go to a school. A lot of regular salons do not know how to dye hair properly, so i wouldn't expect much from a school. I usually only go to salons that have experience and when I ask for my hair to be colored I ask for a coloring specialist (which exist). If the salon doesn't have a coloring specialist I don't get it done. I seen lots of people go to schools and come out with shit results. Also its a reason why its so cheap...you get what you pay for.

    • @rachelosborne1193

      i have ever only dyed my hair once at a salon and it turned out ok i guess. Have not dyed my hair in years and it does a natural ombre effect because it goes down to my butt so the hair is lighter. I am lucky to spend next to nothing on my hair and have it be long and pretty with little to no effort. I would only ever go to a school for a trim. On the other hand im getting gray hair! ah!

    I am so sorry you experienced this. I have never had something this bad happen to me. I feel like we have similar personalities - don't like confrontation, don't want to make a scene, try to be as respectful as possible - and I am SO SORRY you were treated the way you were! I work in retail/customer service, and I could not IMAGINE myself, my boss, another manager, anyone above my position talking to a nice, respectful customer the way you were spoken to BY THE OWNER! I have heard my customers tell stories of bad experiences they've had other locations of my store, and I always feel bad that they had that happen to them because there wasn't anything I could do. I WISH there was something that I could do right now to make that experience better for you and to make the way you were treated go away. There are customers and people out there who don't know how to be kind and show respect and who don't care to remember that customer service workers are still people and still have feelings, but you're not one of those people and I am SO SORRY. I can't say it enough, I am SO SORRY you were treated as horribly as you were. I am SO SORRY you weren't listened to. I am SO SORRY your feelings and your good intentions were belittled. I am SO SORRY you weren't shown respect.
    I do, however, want to thank you for posting this video for 2 reasons. First reason - you're showing other people how to be polite when something didn't go the right way and how to properly handle this sort of situation. You're showing people that being polite and being respectful will take you much further than storming into a place and throwing a tantrum demanding this, that and the other thing. Second reason - you are also showing other people how to NOT treat another human being. You are showing people that be cold, being aggressive, not listening, caring, or paying attention is the WRONG way to interact with someone, ESPECIALLY if the person is in the customer service position. I honestly hope that the people who watch this learn how to treat other people no matter who they are in life. I hope that people will learn that it is ok to admit when you've made a mistake as long as you are going to try your ABSOLUTE BEST to correct it, especially if it affects another person.

It's definitely something I struggle with, and, thinking back to a situation in which I could have stood up for myself and said I didn't like how I was being treated, I would have responded the same way you did, and that knowledge that I would have started crying is what stopped me from standing up for myself.

    you dont have to tease the hair to create an ombre thats true, thats only one technique. as long as you swipe vertically upwards so that the theres no line of demarkation so that it "bleeds" into the darker color, guy tang (one of the best balayage/ombre hairstylists in the world) doesnt tease.

    Girrrrrrrl! I've been to beauty schools to get my hair done, and the bad experience you had would NEVER fly here! Just because it was a cheaper job does not mean they had the right to butcher your hair. It's real time experience for the student that they just can't get from a doll head. The male owner of the place you went to is absolutely disgusting. You have the patience of a saint for not giving the name of him and his "school" on here (even if his wife was nice).
    I'm happy that Kelly fixed your hair. She's a real stylist, and your hair turned out gorgeous.
    I'm glad you stood up for yourself. Your hair looked nothing like the picture you originally presented to them. Again, just because it was a "school" doesn't mean they can go first-grader on your head.

    honestly those teachers are all chain salon stylists...none of them have any kind of modern training. I used to fight with my instructors all the time because I used to go to classes at upscale salons and knew how to do things they didn't and I knew their way would fuck it up. your hair shouldn't have taken much to fix. just some added hair painting with lightener and bring the roots down a bit.

    It's true, you get what you pay for, but that doesn't mean the stylist could butcher your hair. I've been doing hair for 5 years now, and yes, I've messed up. My priority is my client, and their satisfaction. If I charge $45 for an ombre, I'm gonna make sure it looks like you spend $200, because that's my name you're representing. If I mess up, I fix it. You should have at least reported them to Stateboard. Your shirt shouldn't have gotten damaged. I'm sorry you went through this, but I'm glad you ended up getting it fixed. Stay blessed everyone.

She dried my hair and started cutting all over like a video game , not examining my curls and not cutting it properly (she cut several inches off unevenly). Then she combed out my curls an cut more. My hair was soooo uneven you could notice it. I had to go my Salvadorean salon to fix it. I now only go to Latin based places. Never again would I go there. JewelsyCakes, I am horrified. First of all, in your title of this video it states hair SALON nightmare. you went to a beauty school to get your hair done by a STUDENT. NOT a professional. I HATE that your 'moral' of this story is to 'stand up for yourself'. when really all you did was bully that poor student. its strange to me that YOU were embarrassed being told to leave. you were embarrassing that student and probably really hurt her confidence. YOU decided to take a chance and get your hair done at a school for a FRACTION of the cost. its so wrong of you to expect to pay nothing for a perfect ombre witch by the way is a real pain in the ass to do. The owner and teachers were standing up for her. why would they stand up for a impossible client. You should have just let it go. totally unnecessary of you to go back the next day with your "fixed" hair. how effing cruel of you. you paid no money. go home and make a 30 min video of you ragging on a student. btw,, im a cosmetology student about to graduate next week. we've had clients like you. we talk a lotta sh!t about people like you when you leave ;) *drops mike.
