  • I finally found time to give an update on the Ranger, and answer some questions regarding the Boss plow. It's a little long winded, but I hope it helps.

    Don't let the haters get to you. There are a lot of narrow minded people that don't get why people do the things they do. You didn't just buy this setup for snowplowing. Rangers are great machines. They can be used all year. I want the Western version for my Ranger 6x6.

      I have the western on my rtv 900 works pretty good have a few videos of it in action, would have considered a ranger as it would probably have been easier to maintain in the long run, got the right deal on a used kubota with a full cab so I took the dive.

    Nice set up. Currently have boss 8’6” boss plow on my truck. But been debating about getting rid of it and buying one for my ranger. One of the better vids I’ve seen. Thanks for taking the time. ....love the outbuilding for the tractor!

    The Ranger is a great machine as long as you take care of it and use it as it was intended to be used. I've had no problems with my 2015 6x6 and I use it to plow snow and ground maintenance all year long. Mine has a full Polaris steel cab with a glass windshield and wipers and a heater. It is heavy so I added heavier front springs and even with snow plow I've had no problems with the front end wearing out. I get on average about 200" of snow a year so I do work my machine. You bought yours for the same reason I bought mine and I've had the same comments. Hey it's my decision and my money if ya don't like it get over it is my answer. Nice video!

    Thanks for the informative video. Looking at getting this model plow for a Honda Pioneer 1000.
    Quick question. I will be plowing a gravel driveway and road. With shoes on the plow, due to the gravel, how close to the ground can I realistically expect it to plow? I know it won’t be all the way down like with an asphalt driveway. Thanks.

      A few inches to be safe, and avoid pushing the stones/gravel.

    I just recently purchased a 2019 Ranger XP 1000 with the same plow.
    Like you I’m not interested in doors other than perhaps some half doors.
    My question is, have you mounted the controller to the dash?
    On my previous plow/ranger setup I tie wrapped the winch lift control to the gear selector and was considering doing something similar with this one.

    • @macgyver515
      @macgyver515  4 роки тому

      No. The controller is identical to the full size trucks. I simply hold it in my right hand, and drive with the left. Works well.

    Nice setup and property.
    I just got a 5’ straight blade put on my 500 King quad ATV and the plow seems heavy.
    I have a question. Did you try plowing without weight in the back of you UTV?
    I was thinking of placing a cargo carrier on the rear of my ATV and placing weight for a counter weight but I’m waiting to see how it functions as is.
    When the plow is down the front end rises some.
    What benefits have you noticed with weight in the back?
    Thanks for your post

    • @macgyver515
      @macgyver515  5 років тому

      I did. It made it much easier for the rear end to get better bite, with the ballast.

    • @macgyver515
      @macgyver515  5 років тому

      The shorter wheel base, of the ATV, may not require any weight in the rear.

    I'm trying to figure out what to buy. I have a tractor and a ranger.
    How come you decided to plow with the ranger instead of the tractor???

    • @macgyver515
      @macgyver515  3 роки тому +1

      The ranger is so much faster, and maneuverable. I have a 50 horsepower tractor I use to stack up the snow when it builds up, or if we have a massive snow like we had in December. We got 36 in in less than 12 hours, way too much for the ranger, but the tractor with chains did fine.

    do you have a vent on that diesel tank, didn't see one?

    • @macgyver515
      @macgyver515  5 років тому

      There is not a designated, separate vent on the tank. However, the refill cap can be loosened slightly, to use for venting as an option. The cap does not have to be fully removed to vent the tank. It was designed for that option.

    • @jonathanrighetti2088

      ok, just make sure your suction stub is off the bottom about 3 inches and you check the tank for water regularly, just trying to help you out. I used to build fuel stations and install setups like what you have for farmers and limo companies.
      @@macgyver515

    • @macgyver515
      @macgyver515  5 років тому

      @@jonathanrighetti2088 Much appreciated Jonathan. The tube is designed in a way to avoid it sucking to the bottom of the tank. I also use "Diesel Kleen" winter blend each fill up to minimize water in the tank and gelling. So far so good. We will see how it does this winter. I use it to fill the truck too, so the diesel doesn't sit too long.
